I wonder if we'll get something similar in DA3. Why would someone object to you dating Cullen? It would make sense if you were a mage. But otherwise, I don't know why ... unless this person were concerned that your relationship was distracting you from your inquisitor duties.

Yeah, but there Varric's misgivings were always because you were with someone "crazy." But Cullen is a pretty level-headed individual. So I can't imagine why someone would object.

See, I could imagine a situation where we run into Gregoire and Cullen is romancing our protagonist and him warning Cullen off her/him (especially if the protagonist is a Mage) and Cullen putting him in his place as we walk in and hear the argument.

I guess I just wanna hear him bollock someone for trying to sabotage things.

What are the exact rules for the Templars rules of marriage anyway? Also, would Cullen be okay with sex outside of marriage? Oh yeah didn't think of that did ya . I mean I dunno if it's frowned upon since we see templars inside brothels and everything.

Honestly the Templar rules on marriage and such things is... confusing at times. There was evidence that they weren't allowed to have ANY relationships (that one Templar in the Magi Circle quest in Origins), and then there's evidence that they're allowed to get married (like Wesley and Aveline).

I'm guessing there's a lot of 'just don't talk about it' going on as well.

If Cullen was in deep with the main character at the moment of such a conversation, I can see him getting possessive/defensive about it, depending on what kind of conversation you're talking about.

It seems like they can get married if the spouse is of good rank/status, or if the Templar has accomplished something noteworthy, otherwise it seems to be generally discouraged.

I totally agree with this! My poor sage!Mage was left wondering why there wasn't a better response for her.

....And I am totally okay with possessive/defensive Cullen.

You're probably right. I kind of hope Cullen's romance is complicated, like he has to struggle with some goal as well the romance. To me it seemed like Anders was mch more concerned with the Mage rebellion than with Hawke, but what if romancing him made him rethink what he's going to do and instead of blowing up the Chantry he would have faced Meredith head to head.
