If he's not having a crisis of faith/comitment/identity in DA3, then I think Cullen would be a romance maybe a touch like Garrus'. Just a touch. He might be a little awkward in the begining, but once things were established he'd just be "to hell with it!" and go for it.

Ooh, I like the sound of this (I am biased, however, as Garrus is my main ME 'mance).

Edit: Eek, I don't like being the first post on a page. It's too intimidating.

I don't see him being a virgin. There would HAVE to have been a fling here or there in the past, especially at his age. No, he isn't the type to give in to temptation and sleep with a mage or even a fellow templar, but perhaps a crush on someone not affiliated with the order. A clandestine affair with a tavern worker or a servant or a guardsman/woman.

Also this! I don't really want to think of Cullen as the thirty year old virgin -- actually no, it's not the idea of him being a virgin that irks me. It's the idea that he'll throw an Alistair and be self-conscious about it. If he hasn't had a sexual partner before, I don't want it to be an issue at all.

....Also confession time, I totally hope the PC is kept younger than Cullen (if Cullen is in DA3). Especially now that he should probably be in his late twenties at the youngest/early thirties? I can't talk for everyone, but I have a thing for older men.

I liked both Anders and Fenris though. Neither can really be repeated because they are so incredibly unique. Fenris' past as a slave was just gut-wrenching. You can't fix Fenris. You can just sit quietly beside him and hold his hand when things get bad.

Anders was possessed. So we're not likely to see that happen again.

Yeah I do like the thought of Cullen experiencing confusion and not knowing where he's going with his life. But I do NOT want to encounter him as "that guy" at a bar, hitting on women, telling them to come sit by him... eff that! I wouldn't touch that fcuker with a ten foot pole!

I'm curious to see how they will deal with his "experience" (or possible lack of) if he is a romancable companion. Maybe they just won't mention whether or not he's ever got laid before. Or perhaps he'll make a passing comment like "I've had fleeting moments in the past, but nothing serious. There were no feelings involved".

True that Alistair could have gotten lost in booze, but unless you had the 1-minute cameo for that outcome (which most people probably didn't take), you wouldn't even really experience that at all, and even then very little.

Lots of people get drunk to forget their problems - go to a bar tonight and you'll see a room full! Plus Alistair's was more whiny "I used to be somebody!" whereas Cullen's (in my mind) would be more like "Hey, buddy! Buy me a drink and I'll tell you about this man I met from Nantucket... lololol" or "Well hello, gorgeous! There's room at my table if you'd like to take that jacket off and let me admire your figure by the fireside."

... not saying it *has* to be that way, just that I think it could still definitely work. :D

though you know I'm all about the lyrium addling. That needs to happen somewhere along the line, even if it's not his character's main hook. :)

The sad part is I think Cullen would kill himself before he drank his sorrows away. If his beliefs, (in the Order, the Chantry or whatever) was seriosly attacked/weakened I think he'd have a hard time dealing with that. I mean it's something he's heartily relied on for so many things that if it were challenged he might have a hard time getting over it.

I like to think sometimes (because I'm evil ) that when you meet Cullen you fall in love with him, he's your first and one day when you walk around Orlais....BAM

Cullen: I have something to tell you...

Hero: What is it my love?

Cullen: I...am married...

Hero:...You mean she passed away and until we met you were reluctant to love again?

Cullen: Not exactly...she's still alive...

Hero:...But she's an evil harlet! Who eats puppies and bunches babies while giggling! She then makes you dress up in a servant's uniform and sing about how you're pretty!?

Cullen: First of all...what did I say about getting into my lyrium stash? Second...umm do you like that shirt I gave you the other day?

Hero: Oh yes, it's quite nice...

Cullen Well she made it...she also made those cookiees for the Qunari...

Iron Bull: They are the best!

Hero:...Is she ugly?

Cullen: She was miss Thedas last year...

Hero: ...Is there anything else

Group of Children: Daddy!!!!

Cullen: *Grins nervously*

For some reason I keep thinking he'll be a vegabond... maybe it's the fur on that on character in that one concept artwork that looks suspiciously like Cullen.

OMG how evil would that be!

Although, I could see him in a marriage of convenience/arranged marriage and then whilst he's out adventuring with you he ends up falling in love with your character and stuff. That would be different.

That would be kinda cool. Like he's become almost rogue like, having to steal coin from nobles to get by etc.

I still think that we're most likely to encounter him with the Templar faction still loyal to the Chantry in DA3 -- whether as a companion or an NPC. Though, anything could happen with what little we know right now.

Yeah I kind of think this. He'll likely be a loyalist and fight off his brothers, but I still like our idea that he's defending a random mage settlement and being all awesome.

I could imagine Cullen would be a rubbish thief, he doesn't strike me as the swift, silent and graceful type!

I've always imagined him to be quite clumsy in everyday life. Like, because of he's a big guy he'd often bump into things, knock things over etc lol.

Now I want an option for the PC to compare him with a Mabari. <3

Except the PC might be from Orlais this time... so it might not be a favourable comparison.

...Damn it!

It's too... sad :crying: I do like the thought of him perhaps leaving the Order and not knowing what to do with himself, but that he would drown himself in liquor and basically become a man-**** is just... WRONG, you know? That would break my heart.

Plus it's the whole "fix him" thing that nobody likes in real life so why have it in a game xD You never want to have to "fix" another person to make him/her "right" for you.

Okay, I totally agree with that in general, BUT...

if you help a guy that's down and out to become the man he was destined to be by inspiring him to let go of his past, I don't think that's "fixing" him. That's just being the friend he needed at a time when you happened to meet him at a low point. We've all had that, I think.  Posted Image

Anders and Fenris drove me bonkers, because they wanted to dwell on their past. They wanted to be victims forever. You could beg them to smile and take some comfort in your love for them, but whatever joy was in the relationship was so fleeting because they were still chained to their anger and regret. I definitely don't want that in another companion - especially not an LI.

You know I kind of liked that Fenris and Anders couldn't get over it because it showed thatjust becase we're protagonists or even love interests that we're not these all powerfl psychologists to boot. Fenris was a slave, one who's first memories are that of searing pain and use as a plaything rather than a elven being, While others have read about the evil of the old Imperium he's experienced the evil of the new one first hand. Anders basically corrupts one of his best friends, has been locked in a dungeon alone for a year, had his lover turned into a mindless husk, had to possibly kill said lover and has the constant danger of Hulking out and killing everyone. At best I think a romance is a relief, bt not a cure for his sorrow.

No, I agree with all that. But the thing is that that guy shouldn't be your boyfriend. He's possessed and sometimes kills mages just for not being as happy about templar deaths as he is? Not hot. Not healthy. Not cool.

His only ambition in life is to get revenge, and no matter what you do he won't appreciate your love or consistency in his life? Not hot. Not healthy. Not cool.

I've met these kinds of guys in real life and you don't date them -- you befriend them and help bind up some of those wounds for the next awesome girl that can come along and love them. Then you date Varric, or you date Aveline, y'know? I just would have liked one sane, supportive, not-completely self-absorbed LI who could love back without it being part of an agenda. Posted Image

You know maybe it's that I just want a romance where you're not exactly romancing the perfect guy/girl, I want our characters to be er...human. I want there to be some cheating, some lies, infidelity and maybe even some outright cruelty sometimes. I don't want it to become another soap opera but make it a bit more complicated. Maybe if I choose to defend a mage who kills a friend of Cassandra whether that friend was in the wrong she sort of resents me and leaves me for Cullen or the Iron Bull and we sort of have to work through that.

I liked that Hawke was pretty much thrown into the role of Champion and that despite all the good he/she done for Kirkwall, it failed and everything still went to hell. I also liked that regardless of the friendship/love/rivalry between him/her and the companions they'd still do stupid things, rather than the protagonist being able to 100% influence them. I guess DA2 was powerful in that respect because it really showed you that Hawke is only human and sometimes it doesn't matter what you do certain things are out of your control and can go horribly wrong, even with the best laid intentions.

True, but.... you LI did those things before he/she met you. And it had nothing to do with the love they developed for you later. If you were hung up on that, that was all you - y'know? Also part of the tainted seed situation was something done out of love as well. It wasn't because Morrigan had a mommy complex she couldn't move past.

So I still argue that those were decently healthy relationships by comparison.  Posted Image

I thought MMG was all for romancing a Qunari?
