... If he does die, then I want the option for my protagonist to adopt him and she'll look after him instead.

If Sandal is in DA3 as a companion I want to be able to mother him. The love I hold for that boy is like no other. But seriously npc or not I hope this time round we get to talk to him more, he has more interesting **** to say than most of the DA2 companions...

He's ridiculously adorable!

I support mothering Sandal! Even my male protagonists would mother Sandal!

Yay for male mothers!

I kinda felt like maybe it was foreshadowing when Bodahn started talking about setting Sandal up for the future when he's not around anymore... Does not want. Ever.

Precisely! Maybe we'll find out one of these days. Perhaps they'll learn that he's working with the Empress and try to cash in and Sandals like "FFFFFFFUUUUU NOT ENCHANTMENT B!TCHES!" ... And then not enchantments them LOL.

lmao! Anyone see the episode of American Dad where Steve's freind Barry - the one everyone thinks is 'special' - goes off his psych meds and turns out to be an evil genius and talks like Gary Oldman? That's what this reminds me of. Image IPB

If they kill off Bodahn, I'll be one sad panda. Yeah, I definitely want to look after Sandal if something happens to Bodahn, but it isn't the same. They're all each other has. They have to be together. Seriously, I think I'd be less upset if they killed off Alistair.

And yes, I did pick up on the hint that Bodahn's days are numbered. I just hope it's like Wynne where she moans and groans about getting older throughout Origins, mentions it in passing in Awakening, and still manages to survive (and run laps around her 40 year old son) for another 10 years.

Hell, I killed off Alistair himself during one of my playthrough since I can't romance him anyway. . I personally like Loghain better (I'm evil :P ). Cailan deserved to die for dragging his man to death, while Loghain only worries about the good of the country and the safety of his men.

I love Bodahn. He's such a loving dad, although something tell me that Sandal is older than him. ^_^

Battlebloodmage: Well, if Sandal is half Elf then he may well be older than we think, since they still live a fair bit longer than every other species we've been introduced to, with the exception of the Qunari/Kossith/whatever, since it's not been specified how long they live, as far as I'm aware.

Interesting quote from David Gaider as of seven hours ago:

"I find it a bit amusing that these "no more characters like--" threads have started up.

We tend to try new things from game to game, just because having another character that tells the exact same story would be a bit boring-- the ability of people to squeeze characters into archetypes notwithstanding. Personally, I have zero concern if characters are part of the same broad archetype, especially when some of these archetype lists include characters that tell completely different stories with different tones and which only have the vaguest similarities. That's the nature of archetypes.

Plus, our cast for DA3 is already set. If we've made a new character which is honestly the sort you never ever wanted to see again... well, you are officially SOL."

source

I find that interesting and comforting since Cullen would be a Chantry kid and warrior with noble intentions like Alistair (maybe even sexually inexperienced?), but according to DG that wouldn't prevent him from being a companion as long as he was able to tell a different story.

Also, that the DAIII cast is set makes me hopeful as far as *getting news soon* goes.  Image IPB

I love virgin-type character. It would be awesome if Cullen is a virgin. :D

Interesting confirmation from DG. Honestly, we've figured for a while that the script is prob close to done, though, right? Makes sense that the players would be set. My real hope is this means the threads begging for or against certain characters (*cough* Cullen hate threads*cough*) will be reduced. Probably a vain hope, however! :)

also great point about the Alistair archetype!

Hmm I read a lot of yaoi manga, so I have to say I'm a bit "done" with virgin characters... when the writer(s) make(s) an issue out of the character's lack of experience, anyway. There's nothing wrong with being or not being a virgin, and that would certainly influence how the character approached romance. But like others have said here... I don't want it to be play a key part in the development of Cullen's character and romance.

And I will add also that I thought it was handled excellently with Alistair. It wasn't made a huge deal of at all. I think if Alistair had had experience with one or two people, he still would have waited to be with the Warden until he knew it was the right decision.

I also thought Zevran's promiscuity was handled well. But not Isabela's, and I say that because the writers seemed to want to constantly bring it up in her dialogue, cut scenes, banter, everything. It was like, I get it, she's free with her favors. It makes her a great character in the sense that I love seeing a woman who does as she pleases when it comes to sex and romance, but at the same time, it made her a sort of caricature or a person and not a real person.

this.

I'm fine with him being a virgin, although I'd prefer otherwise. I just don't want it to define him; I'd rather his story hit other points about his character.

I've been shaking my head and chuckling softly at all the "No more characters like ____" threads, too. You can tar every character in the game at once if you use a big enough brush. Having a trait or two in common does not make people identical. Heck, I've got a twin. (She got a huge kick out of "beretwinde," by the way.) We do have a few things in common, but our personalities aren't really all that similar. Unless the observer is prone to generalizations, in which case, there are only six true individuals on planet earth. Everyone else is a knock-off.

Were any of us really fearful that a superficial similarity or two would keep Cullen off the roster? (OMG! They're both blond!) Granted, nobody has made any promises, but if he isn't in the game, it was never going to be because he was too much like Alistair.

I wish DG's statement did mean that we'll be getting news soon. The cast was probably decided before the game entered its production phase, but that doesn't seem to have made anybody more talkative. How far out was the DA2 cast announced?

We might just have to agree to disagree about Isabela. I'm not going to rip your head off (or even raise an eyebrow) for daring to have an opinion that differs from mine, though. We all perceive characters differently. There is no "One True" anything.:D

Alistair and Cullen although could both be virgins. Their characters are more different. Cullen gets flustered when someone make flirty comments toward him while Alistair makes jokes to avoid the issues. I see Cullen as more of an uptight sexuality while Alistair while also reserved sexuality, is very much more open to discussion and flirt back. I think if Cullen is a virgin, it would just be a part of himself rather than who he is as opposed with Isabela. While there are similarities between Alistair and Cullen, they are very different fundamentally.
