And I will add also that I thought it was handled excellently with Alistair. It wasn't made a huge deal of at all. I think if Alistair had had experience with one or two people, he still would have waited to be with the Warden until he knew it was the right decision.

I also thought Zevran's promiscuity was handled well. But not Isabela's, and I say that because the writers seemed to want to constantly bring it up in her dialogue, cut scenes, banter, everything. It was like, I get it, she's free with her favors. It makes her a great character in the sense that I love seeing a woman who does as she pleases when it comes to sex and romance, but at the same time, it made her a sort of caricature or a person and not a real person.

We might just have to agree to disagree about Isabela. I'm not going to rip your head off (or even raise an eyebrow) for daring to have an opinion that differs from mine, though. We all perceive characters differently. There is no "One True" anything.:D

That's okay, and keep in mind I love Isabela TO DEATH; she might actually be my favorite DA female character xD It was just something that was running through mind as I was thinking about characters and sexuality.

I love Isabela to death. She's hilarious. I could probably go straight for her. Maybe.

The one thing I don't like about Isabela is a lot of her banter is about sex. While it could just be in her character. It also makes her a bit one-dimensional. I romanced her with my warrior, and she opened up more about her life and her distrust of love and marriage. It's very refreshing. I like these kinds of developments for DA3 characters. More well-rounded, but at the same time, have something that define them.

Nice find BrushYourTeeth!! Somehow thats comforting in this strange way..

so if they show something at the VGAs will they begin to announce companions? Or even announce some at the VGAs?

@davidgaider: Sometimes a BSN post will force me to storm into @bellecanto114's office and gesticulate wildly, while twitching. Because that's how I roll.

Alistair and Cullen although could both be virgins. Their characters are more different. Cullen gets flustered when someone make flirty comments toward him while Alistair makes jokes to avoid the issues. I see Cullen as more of an uptight sexuality while Alistair while also reserved sexuality, is very much more open to discussion and flirt back. I think if Cullen is a virgin, it would just be a part of himself rather than who he is as opposed with Isabela. While there are similarities between Alistair and Cullen, they are very different fundamentally.

i agree that Cullen and Alistair are very different in many way.. Not the least of which is that Cullen is defined by his duty. That being said, their similarity is something often thrown around as a negative about him by those who don't want him as a companion. Sheryl chee I believe even used that comparison once upon a time, that he's like a serious Alistair...? So, for me, it's nice to hear DG come out and say that.

As I said just a few pages back, I think we also don't even know if Cullen's really even flustered about girls/sex. His response to Amell could be interpreted many ways. He could just be socially awkward. He probably hasn't had a lot of opportunity, so I doubt he has, you know, lost count, but it's also plausible that his count is non-zero. I think a bigger issue for him would be the potential change in the allowability of relationships in a post-Circle Thedas.

I realize just how many typoes I had in that post. Gosh, I need some rest.

I don't if Cullen is a virgin, but that's how I envision him. My first character is a mage, and I love it when he starts to fluster. I think, ultimately, we need to see how his character would be developed in DA3 before we could comment on his personal life. I remember Wynne stated that the circle prevent mage-mage relationship, but she didn't say anything about templar-mage relationship.

Aren't most of the suggestion threads popping up sort of pointless now? I mean..seems the devs already have everything layed out...now I see why they waited to say anything about making a DA3...

DG recently shut down a rather heated S/S thread. Maybe it was that.

Or it could have been the nugs.

oh yeah, agree,  we just need  more info! And, it seems that Templar-Mage relationships are also taboo, according to DG, also considered fraternization just like Templar-Templar.

Not that it really stops it from happening, obviously... :pinched: But I see Cullen being a big stickler for the rules.

*snort* Exactly! Of course, most folks won't see DG's comment, I'll bet, which means we'll be seeing many more of such threads! LOL

About Cullen and rules...

Some people aren't really big on questions. They get told something and that's the way it stays in their minds until something happens to change that. Cullen was like that prior to his crisis with Meredith. I'm thinking that the soul-searching he had to do prior to that decision may have opened his mind to a lot of choices he never knew he had. I'd say that's a pretty big difference from Alistair right there. I adore Alistair, but even hardened, he doesn't really change his worldview all that much. He just gets more assertive about his desires.

Ooh, good point, berelinde.

Also, just read the end of that S/S thread DG closed... I'll bet money it was that one. Wow, pulling out the privilege card. Well played, sir.

I hate those S/S threads.

Alistair is really young, isn't he? Early 20's? Of course he would be less assertive than Cullen, a man potentially in his 30's by now.

It was just this one person who thinks same-sex relationship shouldn't be in the game because it's not realistic. I don't play video games to be preached or ostracized for being who I am. I don't need realism and homophobia to that extent in the game. :?

I'm glad Gaider sticks up for the lgbt community. Not a lot of developers even give them a look.

It's more like they're passionate about their ingrained prejudices and hatred, but they don't want to admit that, so they try very hard to disguise it with "logic." Bah.

yeah, Alistair and Cullen were probably around the same age in DA:O, and Cullen was 24. In DA3, he'll be at least 34-ish?? So, by now, Cullen will indeed be a more mature character ... So not quite a fair comparison. LOL just as we probably shouldn't be holding thirty something Cullen accountable for his twenty something shyness. LOL Hadn't really considered that before.., <_<

Yeah, thats what I meant...I don't even really want to comment further beacuse it'll make me go on a rampage that certainly doesn't need to go on this thread... But...geez, some people, I swear!<_<

It's also a bit condescending when they said that developers should cater to them because they're the biggest consumers, or as they put it, more "sensible". Simply having the option of homosexuality is threatening for some people. I just can't even... <_<

Well, if it brightens things up, I'd like to say that as a Straight Female Gamer ™ and a pretty morally conservative one at that, I support romance options that allow everyone to have the same fun percentage, minority or no.  Image IPB
