I'm glad that a great percentage of people here, as well as Cullen fans like Lolelei, who are okay with homosexuality in DA. It does give me hope that some days, we can just have homosexual characters in video games and no one would care.brushyourteeth wrote...
Well, if it brightens things up, I'd like to say that as a Straight Female Gamer and a pretty morally conservative one at that, I support romance options that allow everyone to have the same fun percentage, minority or no.Battlebloodmage wrote...
It's also a bit condescending when they said that developers should cater to them because they're the biggest consumers, or as they put it, more "sensible". Simply having the option of homosexuality is threatening for some people. I just can't even... <_<

I totally meant to put minority in quotations, you know, like a tongue-in-cheek "minority". But I hope you know how kindly it was meant anyway.Battlebloodmage wrote...

People get angry about what they don't understand. The priviledged are always on a learning curve - DG said he had a hard time seeing it in himself once too. Things are progressing in the world in general in such a way that our little differences are being seen less and less as reasons to avoid or judge one another.
This is coming from someone who's never really been attacked for her sexuality, mind you - but I hope you take some comfort in the fact that the homophobe is a dying breed. And good riddance - to all haters, in fact. Pssh.

agree. I always find DG to be very eloquent in his defense of their decision to allow choice for everyone. I can't believe someone would write those things about "pandering" and not realize that's the text book definition of majority privilege.Battlebloodmage wrote..
It was just this one person who thinks same-sex relationship shouldn't be in the game because it's not realistic. I don't play video games to be preached or ostracized for being who I am. I don't need realism and homophobia to that extent in the game.R2s Muse wrote...
Ooh, good point, berelinde.
Also, just read the end of that S/S thread DG closed... I'll bet money it was that one. Wow, pulling out the privilege card. Well played, sir.
I'm glad Gaider sticks up for the lgbt community. Not a lot of developers even give them a look.
For myself, I just hope anyone who wants to can romance Cullen. 'Nuff said.

I remember some guys were complaining before about how Anders wouldn't stop flirting with their machoman Hawke and getting conversations out of him that you only get when you select the dialogue option with a giant, glowing, golden heart.
There was a thread about that at least once a week

That always made me laugh. If I had a talent for making memes, which I don't, I'd do one that had a picture of some random dude and the caption "Complains vociferously about the attention same sex followers pay his PC. Chooses every 'heart' option in the game. Makes a thread about being ninjamanced."Batteries wrote...

The news that the "they're all bi" stance remains unchanged is encouraging. I like having the freedom to pursue whichever pairing makes sense to that protagonist without metagaming. Playing 75% female protagonists in DA:O for the sole purpose of romancing Alistair got old after a while. That, and I'm curious to see how a male/male romance with Cullen would go. He strikes me as a guy who would show his sensitive side more readily to a woman (some guys are like that), so winning his trust with a male protagonist has the potential to be very rewarding.

Alistair and Cullen although could both be virgins. Their characters are more different. Cullen gets flustered when someone make flirty comments toward him while Alistair makes jokes to avoid the issues. I see Cullen as more of an uptight sexuality while Alistair while also reserved sexuality, is very much more open to discussion and flirt back. I think if Cullen is a virgin, it would just be a part of himself rather than who he is as opposed with Isabela. While there are similarities between Alistair and Cullen, they are very different fundamentally.
I always saw Cullen's tendancy to become flustered in certain situations having to do with unprofessional elements rather than 'he is a virgin!" In the Mage Origins situation, when the PC is female, he's habouring a crush he knows is frowned on. I would be a touch nervous talking to that person under those circumstances, especially, if like Cullen shows, he WANTS to keep talking to that person rather than distancing himself from her like the Templars would probably suggest.
When it comes to the Blooming Rose incident? Again that's having to deal with an unprofessional element, especially when those women don't want to 'disclose their clients' and thus would probably have been pretty unhelpful/tried to distract Cullen by offering HIM services. I can't spreak for everyone, obviously, but I felt awkward going into the Blooming Rose. That has nothing to do with any sexual experience I may or may not have, that's just because I find brothels awkward places to be. Thankfully my Hawkes aren't awkward turtles like I am.
There's actually a character in SW:TOR on the Empire side if you're a female Sith Warrior and flirt with him. He gets awkward and flustered, but that's not because he's a virgin. It's because your character is acting unprofessionally when he's a professional, so he just doesn't know what the hell he's supposed to do with it. Both he and Cullen aren't awkward or flustrered when it comes to women talking with them generally (at least he never stuttered with my fem!Hawkes), it's when they give the character an unprofessional element to deal with they get all "Wait. Wh-what?"
And Alistair always seemed pretty flirty to me. He never really avoided the subject, and only made jokes to smooth it over if he thought he came across as a lech.
/very late to the party on this
This is why I shouldn't bookmark where I'm at in the thread before I sleep.

The f/m and m/m differences with Cullen you are describing sounds a bit like Anders' romance as well. He was a lot more "NO I WILL BREAK YOUR HEART DON'T LOVE ME" with f!Hawke than he ever was with male.
His romance was the only one I recall having any real significant differences between the genders.
Fenris had the "It's a lot to take in!!" line but that was about it, I think.
I don't really care if he's a virgin or not either. He gets flustered and he's awkward, that's all that I gather from it. I just want an awesome story to go along with him in the game.
He's a Dragon Age blondie guy though, he's gotta be doing something.

I would love if they differentiate the love interest between the two genders. I want different scenes between gay and straight Cullen. I personally treat guys and girls differently when we go on a date. It's just that the dynamics should be different when it comes to how the PC interacts with Cullen.berelinde wrote...

I gotta agree about Anders though. They act like you are being forced into romancing him or somehting.

I respect Jennifer Hepler's decision to write Anders the way she did, and I thought she did a wonderful job with him, but in that case, I didn't quite understand why it was necessary. I appreciate the differences because it allows me to enjoy different aspects of the romance with different-gendered PCs, but Anders himself seems kind of blind to social norms based solely on plumbing. Different approaches based on class makes sense to me, and the Anders romance has that, too, so I really can't complain. And I don't. I like the romance for what it was.

I also see no problem with them reusing certain archetypes, hell, there's more than one virgin/drunk/story teller/revolutionist in the world. Just because their situation/moral code/whatever might be the same/similar, doesn't mean the new characters personal story or personality will be. Honestly, I thought all those "No more players like *blank*" threads were to troll Upsettingshorts at first because he made a post/thread complaining about it and then several all popped up straight after. I was also expecting a Cullen one to show up, which is usually the case.
Either way, it's no wonder DG 'n' co can't stand this place, it's full of absolute c*nts. I mean sh!t, people think we're crazy/irritating in this thread but we aren't the ones running around stomping our feet or screaming insults at the staff for not wanting/liking something in a game we know f*ck all about. Bunch of f*cking dicks.

Lol thanks! I'm amazed that someone even dare demand that S/S romances be removed, more so that the guy/girl said that they were unrealistic! What planet has that moron been living on?!

I suspect people will get worse the more we find out. Once we play the game there will probably still be a flurry of complaints even if DA3 is a masterpiece.

That's what the BSN is like, sadly. It's a cess pit at the best of times.

Yeah, certainly appears that way. It's a pity really, apparently it used to be quite a close knit community once upon a time.

I'll post this one up again for more speculation. Cullen shows up at the Gallows during Last Straw via boat with Meredith, so then who's this dude in the courtyard when Hawke arrives?
