@SamaraDraven, just had to LOL at your comment about dumping deleted scenes in a notes file. I do the exact same thing, and it's even called notes.doc.

Really? So is mine! Awesome! I make a folder for every new fic and have the main doc I'm typing and a doc for each chapter where I add html coding for site posting and the notes file. Sometimes I go browse my notes and something that I previously wanted to use in one particular situation but removed because it didn't really work well, suddenly seems perfect for a different scene, or different characters, etc. :D I even have images in some of the fic folders for references when describing someone or something. That is, when I find an image that fits what I have in my head. Otherwise I make notes about that too so I don't forget details. Making timelines help me keep my continuuity of events straight. Perhaps I overthink my stories... It would explain the five false starts I have in my newest fic. LOL!

What's your process? If you don't mind me asking, that is. :)

Wow.  You really put a lot of effort into your ideas.  I admit, I just toss them when I give up on a story or think, "what a stupid idea" or "this won't work in this scene."  Maybe I should try saving them from now on. lol It has happened where I am trying to remember an idea I used to have, but I can't figure it out what it was.

Ah, just love that one. Just as a suggestion, you might want to add something attributing it to Galagraphia. I always worry about original art getting separated from its artist, since it's so easy with google these days. I think that one's on her devart page?

Is that where it came from? I just nicked it from other websites LOL.

Yeah, that's Cullen from her Obsession comic. It's called Cullen's Scar. She's got a lot of nice Cullen pics, and even some fun, saucier ones.  She's also the "founder" of this thread.

Anyhoo, whenever I see ones I actually know, I figure it can't hurt to try to keep the author/artist with the art when we can.

I know I shouldn't have, but I did end up deleting something from chapter 5. I thought the detail was not really necessary. Now, I'm hoping my idea that involves the Fade this early in the story will end up good; I don't know if from playing the mage origin, if fans assume that's her first time there or what. If, so then I'll have to delete my idea and maybe stick with what happens next to being a dream or something. I'm trying to be as true to the story and its mechanics as much as possible.

Wow, I think I'm caught up now! A few things to add... that are sorta old now. :)

@Dunquixote, there are lots of resources on writing romance/sex scenes on the internets, and some deal directly with fanfic. General advice I've heard is read a lot of sex scenes and take note of what you like, verbiage you like, etc.

One resource I like, and it seems silly, but is from a How to  write a romance novel site on What makes a sex scene sizzle.

Also, Advice for writing romance and sex scenes which is specifically about fanfic.

Thanks! Wow.  much appreciated....

 I feel a bit embarrassed though about this...x_X this is all new to me

Oh gosh, why?!?!?!  Everybody was new once (and some, like me, still feel they are). And, just cuz we might know how to DO a sex scene doesn't mean we automatically know how to write one (altho some people are SO good at writing them, I think maybe it does come automatically :D ). I've only written one such scene so far... and I personally found it to be really difficult. In fact I hated writing it, and now I hate reading it. My next fic, I'm intending for my chars to be a bit more... adventurous to force me to write something more explicit. I need the practice! (which I guess the kmeme prompts are good for...)

Here's something for you guys to consider, I'd like to know your thoughts on it. I was on the "Can we have a Templar companion?" Thread earlier and someone said the following:

"Having such a well-known character such as Cullen as a companion might be more trouble than it's worth. Everybody has different opinions regarding how a person such as Cullen should behave, etc., and they can't please everybody. So I think he'll be an important figure (if he shows up), but not a companion."

The poster does have a point, is it likely to incite fan rage if he doesn't behave how we expect especially since a lot of us, including non-fans have different ideas about him. I personally wouldn't mind what they did with his character, even if they turned him into a bit of a dick it would still be intriguing, although I would prefering him to stay relatively in character. Plus his character hasn't been developed enough yet for us to have a definitive idea about how he should behave etc so he could easily behave any number of ways and it still be in keeping with his backstory.

Besides, a lot of people love Anders but his personality (and voice) changed completely and the nerd rage wasn't too bad from that outcome lol.

Maybe because I'm new to the Cullen fandom, but I see it as, he's a character who's made an appearence in both games so far, that fans clearly want to know more about. So, him being a companion in DA3 would be us learning more about him. And I think its fine if he isn't what you expected - I mean, that's life. There's people I've worked with for three years that I have an idea of who I think they are, but if I actually hung out with them outside of work (or went on a quest with them to save the world), I would probably discover they're completely different than what I thought.

And Anders' personality change between games didn't really bother me - they gave a good reason for it - he really wasn't the same person. If anything, as a player, it made me feel bad because I saw everything that happened to him as being my Warden's fault. Sure...that completely falls apart if you didn't recruit him in Awakenings, but whatever.

Now...Liara's personality switch between ME1 and ME2 made me hate her forever, so, I suppose there is risk.

Thus far we have no clue about Cullen's life, really and only an idea about what his personality is like in his templar identity. So they could do some interesting things with him when they flesh him out and being so unknown gives the developers leeway in writing his story, unlike Anders who had a story already by the time DA2 happened. At least there's a good reason for his changes. Now Merrill on the other hand, she wasn't anywhere near as silly and naive in DAO as she is in DA2 and there's not much of a reason for it.

I think the true pitfall for Cullen is less about expectations than it is wish fulfillment. Everyone has their hopes for him, his story and what they want from his personality. Realistic expectations are much different than fantasies and if people tried to really think about realistic expectations and put their dreams aside, they might truly love new Cullen rather than be upset that they didn't get the perfect Cullen fantasy. The trick is, fulfilling the fans' wishes and doing it realistically and without making Cullen an Alistair clone. He's so well loved, it'd be tempting for the writers to go back to the trough. :) As for me, the only hope I try to nurture is that he'll be a companion/LI. My expectation is that he'll probably be an NPC but at least we'll see him again.

SamaraDraven: I hope he won't be an Alistair clone, they can make just as swoon-worthy characters without resorting to the Alistair prototype (from which all male DA romances are judged lol.) As much as I liked Anders in Awakening I did feel like he was an Alistair clone, he even had a similar face. Merrill's voice changed completely, from American to Welsh which was quite a shock.

I don't mind what they do with Cullen's personality/backstory, so long as he isn't too broody or defined only by what drives him (like they did with Anders and Fenris.) I want to get to know the man behind the Templar.

Heh heh, if you want to see something depressing, check out Dragon Age Confessions today on tumblr. One of the recent posts is some Cullen backlash. Yeah, there are lots of strong feelings about him. Not all for the good... <_<

LOL It ebbs and flows throughout the interwebs. He's a strangely divisive character for being so smokin' hot. :D

And that's it in a nutshell. Showing us the man but not developing him to any extremes. I kinda got sick of Alistair's whining when I made decisions he didn't agree after he insisted on leaving the choice to me. I got annoyed with Anders' constant ****ing and Fenris' vitriol. I wanted to shout at all of them at some point. When it comes to guys, I like some balance. And a clever sense of humor, not something forced.

I've seen Cullen haters in other places too. And I bet just about everyone who hates on Cullen has their own NPC or companion they love to bits and squeal about. I may not like Anders much but I can see why he may appeal to others. I'm just not that intrigued by him. Cullen haters seem to be trying to convince everyone else that we're seeing things for seeing the appeal in him and being intrigued. Like he's the only one in DA who should be unfathomably unappealing to everyone or something.

Alot of the haters didn't even play the FMageAmell either so they don't understand what all the fuss is about. I wonder how many people will convert if he does become a companion/LI.

What I find funniest about Cullen hate is when people compare him and Anders and claim that Cullen deserves to be axed just as much. I'm like "Um... O_O Cullen didn't blow up the Chantry. And his crazy epilogue was retconned. There wasn't confirmation the crazed templar WAS Cullen (though they probably meant it to seem it was him) so w can't say for sure, PLUS it was all taken back. So it's like it never happened. Therefore he isn't on Anders' level at all, IMO. It's always so much fun to see strong opinions based on assumptions. :/

I sent one in saying: "Cullen: Don't even lie. You know you'd hit that like the fist of an angry god."

Do you think they'll post it? LOL.

What kind of man would be threatened by a pixelated dude? My husband just makes jokes about me writing fanfic and when he thinks he's being clever will sometimes ask if I've been a good girl and do I need a smiting? At first it was spanking but after he discovered my Cullen crush, he changed it. And then he agreed with Isabela when I was replaying DA2 and she said "Everyone needs a good smiting now and then." Frank was all "See? See?"

Aww boo... :? What a party pooper.

Hubs just isn't impressed with DA2 so he didn't want to play it but it had nothing to do with my obsession with Cullen. Frank really liked Shale and her quips AND he was the first to give the same sex romance between his warden and Zevran a try! Frank's a straight guy, yet he went there... He ended it to be with Morrigan though and left with her through the mirror in Witch Hunt.

It's quiet in here this evening! I need to think up some questions! Anyone got any Cullen related questions?
