Just dropping in to say I REALLY hope Cullen finally gets to be a romance option in DA3. Seriously, he's been my favorite since the first time I played origins.
And could we perhaps have him with no demon babies or exploding churches or anything TOO sad and bad happening? I mean, I'm all down with tragic drama and all, but I've kind of had enough with the sad-warden/sad-hawke thing.
That would be great. K thanks.

Maker's breath, I hope so.
um... i just typed maker's breath.too much da2! (blushes)
and Sia, it is lovely to see you as always. we keep ending up in the same forum threads! it's hilarious to me. clearly it shows what great taste we have in fictional men.
on topic though, i love cullen. he's mentally strong enough to withstand what happened in the circle tower, yet he's managed not to be totally bigoted after that. plus he's a cute ginger. we seriously need to recruit this man for the PC and have a (mostly) happy love story.

Is that a bad thing? That's pretty much the only flavor of Cullen I write.silentstephi wrote...

No. I'm sorry. I can't. Not even Greg Ellis can save that character for me.
Ohhh, what's the name?? If you don't mind sharing, that is. I still have one Cullen prompt that is not quite finished, but I did just do a sexitiems update the other day.silentstephi wrote...

Re: Cullen porn - It's not edited yet! But I'm filling a prompt on the kinkmeme, so far, both the non-porny scenes are done. I'm thinking Sebastian is jealous cause it's his Hawke I'm using... er... if that makes sense.
*waves the Garrus love flag* X3

I totally agree with you that a perfectly happy storyline for Cullen is unlikely given his duty issues [besides the plain old writerly reasons that without drama/angst there is no romanced story]. But, I think that a potentially interesting future development might be the fundamental evolution of what that duty is. With the rebellion of the templars themselves following Act 3, and his own difficulties with "questioning the Order" and whether he serves Meredith or the Order, I think that the definition of what his duty should be is changing. Is it what he sees in his heart as what Andraste charged the Templars to do? Or is it the harsher, more dogmatic mission of Meredith's? Is it something different altogether handed down from the Chantry in this new time of war? Since that duty so utterly defines him, I could see him feeling the rug pulled out from underneath him and having to re-examine what *he* thinks instead of what the powers-that-be tell him to think. Potentially a nice, stable girl could, er, help him work through those issues... hmm....CulturalGeekGirl wrote...

I actually don't know that it would be possible to have a mostly happy love story with Cullen. His defining quality is that nothing can come before his duty, and that he's perfectly willing to do things that bother him morally, intellectually, or emotionally in pursuit of that duty. It's actually a type I usually don't like, but he has that bashful, tired-eyed, walking-wounded quality that makes his balance seem so fragile, and his sacrifice seem so sad. You'd need a pretty big plot point that removed him from the templar system in order to allow him to take his focus off of his duty for long enough to have a proper relationship, and I'm not sure that something like that wouldn't really seriously mess him up on its own, by fundamentally altering his sense of identity.
Getting Cullen away from a Circle would go a long ways toward achieving that balance. I really don't know what he was doing standing around in the Gallows for ten years anyway, but what do I know? I think his refusal to stand up to Meredith before he realized that Crazy Sword made her crazy was much more "The Plot Demands" than anything else, but he still expressed doubt before the RoA and doubts about her leadership as early as Act 2. It could also be that she's his commander and he's a subordinate and you do not disobey direct orders in the military. Even with all that though, I think he's come quite a ways since the Ferelden Circle.CulturalGeekGirl wrote...

Yeah, I'm not sure how well this would work out either. I think any player who romanced him would feel kind of odd since their Amells are still attached somewhat to Cullen. But, I've read enough fanfic (not even Cullen or DA related) to know that stranger things have happened. Though, I still have to wonder if Cullen as an LI can be truly satisfying without a mage PC.I'm also torn about having him as an LI. I don't read a lot of Cullen, but all my favorite Cullen stories have him with one of the Mage!Warden characters, whether or not she's actually a Warden (One of the first Cullen stories I found was a story where most of the Warden PC characters existed, some as Wardens, some not. The main story was an Alistair one, but there was an Amell/Cullen backup). I'm sure I could be convinced, but they'd have to do something pretty spectacular to overcome the inherent interest of the Mage and Cullen interactions in Origins, with their separations after that, and Cullen's continued fondness for her, even in light of all he's been through. It could be done, but it'd have to be done very well.
