Oh, there was this tweet from Gaider a few days ago:
"Oh, so *that's* Cullen's last name. I like it." - We don't know if he was just trolling/joking around, or if he really does have a Surname. Hopefully the latter.

Cullen met Hawke and co. in DAII, but if he had really gotten to know all of your companions, what would he have thought of...
Carver?:
Bethany?:
Aveline?:
Varric?:
Merrill?:
Fenris?:
Isabela?:
Anders?:
Sebastian?:
Your canon Hawke?:
Lastly, which decisions your Hawke made in-game would he have approved or disapproved of? What choices or banters would he have found funny?

Carver: He would have probably got on with Carver, more so if you made him a Templar
Bethany: Sweet. Very much aware of the dangers her magic could bring. Respectful of the Circle. But he would still be wary of her simply because she's a mage.
Aveline: A respectful woman, worthy of her status within the guard. Fair and just, if a little scary.
Varric: Bit of a pain in the arse, but nice enough. Doesn't appreciate the smutty stories written about him and the Captain of the Guard. Secretly has a little soft spot for him in the bromance department.
Merrill: Incredibly naive, worries for her safety. Extremely against her use of bloodmagic, but can't make her see sense.
Fenris: Two peas in a pod, when it comes to their thoughts on magic. Curious about his lyrium markings. Standing next to him for too long gives him a headache lol.
Isabela: Terrified of her, doesn't trust her not to jump him in his sleep. Has noticed that she puts on a front of being shallow, when really she is actually rather motherly to those she cares about. Is definitely warming to her.
Anders: They don't get on, although he respects his dedication and passion towards his beliefs. They have more in common than Cullen will admit.
Sebastian: Generally a nice bloke, they get on well enough.
Your canon Hawke: He respects my Hawke, despite him being a mage. He's helped Cullen out a lot over the years, even though he's screwed over the Templars a lot. Cullen considers him a friend of sorts, especially as he is a fellow Ferelden, forced into similar circumstances as himself.
I think Cullen would have disagreed with a lot of choices my Hawke made in-game because he was pro-mage. Although, he would consider him to be a sympathetic character and understand why he was making said choices, even if he didn't agree with them. As for what banter he would have found funny? I think he would find the bickering between Isabela and Aveline amusing, even if he tried not to - simply because it's funny! Other than that, I think he'd find Varric amusing, but would generally try to not make his amusement known.

I always forget that you roll mHawke's because of fHawke's VA. Hilarious!!
And I agree that Cullen would be too smart to make himself a target for Varric's teasing and... er... stories. Those that tick off or inspire Varric get immortalized in smutty novellas. Best to fly under the radar with that one.
But watching the outcome could be hilarious! Might be fun to write a fanfic from the POV of it actually being a Varric creation intended to embarass Cullen.... hmm...

If it's set after Asunder, then we won't get to see Val Royeaux in all it's glory (before the civil war and everything breaks out), it probably won't be set straight after DA2 (before the Varric interrogation) because they wouldn't make sense if Cassandra is supposed to be a companion (unless she isn't going to be one?) If it's set after Asunder, then almost everywhere the Mage/Templar war has touched so far is gonna look like a bomb site. Sooooo, maybe DA3 will run along parallel to Asunder? Man, wouldn't it be cool to run into Rhys and Evangeline in the Orlesian Circle prior to their (and our) big adventure!

I'm hoping we'll find a copy of Varric's smutty book about Cullen and the Guard Captain in DA3, I'd love to see the look on his face with that one!

There's nothing to prevent it from running more or less parallel to the end of DA2. If Cassandra is a companion, she would not haveto join at the very beginning. I think it will probably be post-Asunder, though. Once those events are out there, it's hard to pull them back and pretend they haven't happened yet.LolaLei wrote...
I've been thinking. When does everyone think DA3 will be set in terms of timeline regarding the Asunder novel?

I don't think Cullen would get along too famously with my canon Hawke. She was too busy running around trying to help the mages. Plus she was shagging Anders. He would've thought her too idealistic.... but at least she's not a mage. lol

I agree. And most of the mage/Templar damage at the end of Asunder is on the top level of the White Spire, some of the other Circles in Thedas, and all the way out in Andoral's Reach. The Orlesian Civil War, however.... gah! I really hope we get to meet Celene. If she's been offed, I'll be one sad cookie. Val Royeaux did take some serious damage in that conflict, but I would guess that there are some districts that are still intact. Until a few years ago I was living in New Orleans, and there are still entire neighborhoods that are demolished from hurricane Katrina, while others look brand new, while still others have been perfectly restored to their historical asthetic. So maybe kind of like that?berelinde wrote...

If the Grand Cathedral is supposed to actually look the way they portrayed it in Dawn of the Seeker, I say tear that baby down and start over. Good riddance!

True. perhaps our protagonist is Cassandra's "plan B" (or whatever she called it) that she mentions to Leliana at the end of DA2?
If they survey leak has any truth in it, beyond the games title, then it sounds like it takes place after Asunder, when sh!t has really hit the fan. Personally, I'd want it to run either slightly before or roughly parallel to Asunder, so that we get to see Val Royeaux in all it's beauty before everything goes to hell. I'm intrigued to see what the DA team have come up with.

LOL definitely not a freudian slip there, but very appropriate!

The DeLauncets? I kind of doubt it. They were kind of tied to the Emile branch of On the Loose, so putting them in DA3 wouldn't serve much purpose. It isn't as if they couldn't include another pair of shallow and catty sisters, though.LolaLei wrote...

Yeah, I agree - plus I've heard some fans grumble that anything that took place outside of a game shouldn't have any bearing on DAIII (because it's in the novel, even though the devs choose backstory for each game regardless), so to keep those fans happy, I hope DAIII shows/explains some of those events in-game to catch everyone up to speed.LolaLei wrote...

Plus, you can't really appreciate the wreckage of the capital city of a country you've never been to before and don't really care about. Kind of like Hawke's family and life in Ferelden in DAII - better that we get to appreciate it first and then see it destroyed!
Like Denerim. If it'd been Archdemon'd the first time we went there, the darkspawn attack wouldn't have had near the same impact on me that it did!

I support this! They obviously go to Orlesian parties, and are husband hunting - no reason we shouldn't see them around!!
Wouldn't it be hilarious if we went to an Orlesian ball and they were there, then we went to a party in the Tevinter Imperium and they were there, then we were at a market in Starkhaven and they were there....etc.?

Were they? I don't recall if they were DeLauncets or not. All I remember was that there was a noble woman with two daughters at the garden party and they were really b!tchy. I'd like them to come back, just as a "Oh look, it's those two again" kinda thing.

They technically didn't have any business being in MotA either, but that didn't seem to stop them. I think the writers know that the whole DeLauncet family is full of lulz.LolaLei wrote...
