I'm assuming that we are refraining from posting spoilers here, but I would like to mention that DEHR did an absolutely fantastic job with the games final decision.

The last time I remember seriously considering which option would result in the best outcome would  be when I had to choose between Ashley or Kaidan in ME; Jensen's 'ultimatum' easily tops that.

Although, if you play DX1, you know none of the decisions even matter.

Which makes it more awesome, in a way.

I was far too young for such a game when it was popular (I was only 9 or 10 years old when it came out).

Anyways, what about the "Jensen" ending? Not only is it the ending I chose, but it seems like the kind of ending that would mesh pefectly with the Deus Ex cannonical timeline. Or am I wrong?

Ok, you'll probably only really have an opinion on this question if you've played the original DX, but does anybody else think that the point where the game ends almost certainly implies at least 1, if not 2 full sequels?

They didn't even come loosely close to getting to most of the backstory of DX.

Kind of, yeah. There was enough story to actually make the leap to DX1 and on how UNATCO was formed & on the Grey Death, but there was still space left to do atleast 1 full sequel to HR, I think it is pretty obvious that there is a link between Adam, Paul Denton & JC, and while it is obvious, there is potential in this story too, tie in Bob Page (and give more of him) his coup with MJ12 and the nano-tehconology in general. OFC it could also be done so that "A Jensen - Dentons"-connection is done in a expansion or number n DLC:s (I wouldn't say no to such an thing). And then 1 sequel on the early UNATCO-years and Grey Death and possibly while BPage is gaining control.

The Illuminati are still in power. Sarif opposes them, and Majestic 12 came about as Bob Page + others as an offshoot. So there's certainly a lot to go on.

The development and escape of Daedalus, MJ-12 overthrowing the Illuminati, the actual formation of UNATCO, the MJ-12 extermination of the Knights Templar, Sillhouette's formation, the attack on the Statue of Liberty, etc.

On a more background story side of things, Mead coming to power as the President of the USA, New Sons of Freedom transitioning into the Northwest Secessionist Forces, the fall of Sarif Industries and TYM, various characters still need introducing such as Walton Simons, etc.

Plus of course, surely, something bad must happen to Jensen and Reed (and Sarif) before we get to the time of DX.  My theory is still that somehow, Jensen is integrated into, or becomes a part of the Icarus AI.

There is a ton of stuff to go on - and at this stage - it seems like they've raised more questions than given answers.

As Tirfan said, there's no reward... but it's something I've liked to do in stealth games since Thief 2.  I played the entire game with out anyone noticing Garret in any mission at all.  At least, not where it wasn't required by the story.

Well done. Was that with Perfect Ghosting, ie. no suspcions raised, no guards coming to investigate?

The development and escape of Daedalus,

Daedalus was the old Echelon system from what I recall, and we already met the precursor to Deadalus: the giant underground AI in the deep sea station, with humans interfaced to it. The TYM woman even wanted to become what Page wanted with Helios.

MJ-12 overthrowing the Illuminati, the actual formation of UNATCO, the MJ-12 extermination of the Knights Templar, Sillhouette's formation, the attack on the Statue of Liberty, etc.

We're already heard about UNATCO. It was either a newspaper or a newsreel, and it talked about the UN developing an anti-terrorist task force to deal with the increase in terrorist attacks.

We're only in 2027, so we have almost 30 years to go to Deus Ex territory. It's still early.

On a more background story side of things, Mead coming to power as the President of the USA, New Sons of Freedom transitioning into the Northwest Secessionist Forces, the fall of Sarif Industries and TYM, various characters still need introducing such as Walton Simons, etc.

I don't think we're ever going to get a plot as close to Deus Ex as that.

I think Sarif will be written in as part of the founding of Majestic 12.

Edit:

Also, the original Deus Ex is a brilliant game, because I started to play it 2 days ago, and it has aged so brilliantly well other games like BG or BGII that clearly show tremendous signs of aging in so much of their design (ignoring graphics).

[Spoiler!!]

Just finished the game and after putting together all the clues and seeing the movie after the credits I have an huge urge to show Megan Jensens steel implants in his arms.

All the game he is motivated because of her and that's the way she thanks him? And I'm starting to think that she only hooked up with him because she knew of his DNA.

Really classy move girl, really classy.

I wish I had played the first two games, I'm sure there were loads of references to them that went right over my head. I've spent some time on the Deus Ex wiki to fill myself in on the plots of the first two games, but it's just not the same. I hadn't even heard of the series until Human Revolution.

Yup!  No one had any clue Garret had even been on the maps.  I think the most I left was a rope arrow hanging down in the museum.

Of course, the Alice Pods section in DEHR made me rageface and I killed a lot of mercs and didn't feel bad about it.

This!  I think (with zero evidence ) that DEHR1, 2, and 3 are all about the founding of Majestic 12.  Once Sarif is successfully recruited, the corporation could easily be "revealed" to have faked their financial records, leading to investigations, leading to lawsuits, meaning their patents and labs get auctioned off to the highest bidder... who happens to be bijillionaire Bob Page.  Sarif industries would disappear... but remain whole at the same time.

Jensen...  maybe some bad stuff happens and Jensen chooses what he sees as the lesser of two evils and joins MJ-12.  So, just for fun, say there are twelve MJ-12 leaders....  Page, Sarif, Reed, Jensen...  That's one third already.  Maybe next game, we meet the next four during the fight against the Templars?  Then the last four during the fight against the Illuminati...  Which leads right into the original Deus Ex.

All wild speculation!  :P:P:P

Is it already confirmed that there will be sequels to HR? (Edit: Just saw how many people where playing it on Steam. They would be insane to not make sequels)

I thought that the self destruct ending was the most fitting to set the stage for DE1, but I'm really not into games that change protagonist in every sequel. (Heard that DA2? Where is my warden?! ^^)

Minor spoilers:

Actually, thanks for reminding me of that, another place where I was kinda pissed, I went on my way to stun everyone, deactivate every camera & turret AND then I couldn't go back to tell Van Bruggen its safe to get out as I couldn't give him a gun, because I didn't have one.

WTF? Really? "Hey guy, these guys are out cold, take a weapon from one of them if you feel like you need one."

On a related note: I finally figured out how to get that "I Deus Ex:d this game"-feeling, I noticed you can't jump on mines (boo, you could in the original, LAM-Climbing FTW!) but then, at one point I noticed how the lasers turn off when there is a guard nearby, so I just had to knock out a guard, drag his stunned body near the lasers, giggle manically for a moment and continue, hacking, jumping or cloacking over lasers? pfft. This is how you need to do it.

It is so great that their body turns off lasers.  Such a great touch!

Of course, I always cloaked through them.

You can get the first two games bundled together on Steam. DX was released in like 2000, and DXIW in 2004, so they will run on all but the most ancient PC hardware. They're worthy investments, even DXIW which is IMO criticized too harshly.

Im glad for the developers that the game was a success, they clearly put alot of love into it. On my second playthrough, this is game of the year so far for me, although Skyrim and Rage are just around the corner too!

Nice, I managed to pull that off a few times(but not on the later maps, some of those were devilishly difficult).

As for DX:HR, at the moment I'm in Hengsha and a few of those side missions like the Ning Rescue one.Acquired a crossbow and a P.E.P gun(still not sure where I can get more ammo for it though) and my cloaking system is maxed out which makes it easy to do quick bursts of stealth. Although I have to say the fact that the energy cells only regenerate on the first one makes using augs difficult because those power bars etc. aren't exactly commonly found.

Shoot out the electrical hubs. When all four explode, she's toast. If you're going to shoot at her, use a weapon with a high rate of fire so it will mess up her cloak. And you can watch for her footsteps in the water, or use your augmented vision to track her.
