hmmm yes the more I think of it the bosses don't seem like they belong in this game.
To be honest I would've preferred bigger maps or more missions over the usual boss flair.
I remember reading some article that said boss battles should be a thing of the past and in this case I kinda agree.

I definitely agree, some of the missions like the escape from Alice Pods or the escape from Tai Yong are the equivalent of boss battles but done in the style of the rest of the game.

This.... this is what I expect for an rpg of this type. These "boss" fights are just anticlimactic stop gaps that really don't fit teh rest of the story or game.

And, Malik saved! And yes, there's definitely some chemistry between spy-boy and fly-girl, shame they didn't explore that a little deeper, and then resolve/dissolve what was between Adam and Megan.

I don't know, I kinda liked the boss battles. It provided a good change of pace and a challege compared to the usual gameplay. In a way it reminded me of Metal Gear Solid. You're sneaking around and reach yor objective but there's an obstacle in your way and you have to find a good strategy to get rid of it(in this case the bosses).

Yes Malik was another one and I also wished there was the opportunity to explore their relationship further. Malik and Pritchard were my favourite characters by the end of the game.

Megan and Adam were already together and he was looking for Megan and her team. You want him to cheat on her? Even if she preferred her work over anything else.

I wouldn't trade Megan for Malik, never.

Megan has that certain dedication and love for science that I find very admirable, even if that means she is a bit socially awkward and tends to neglect her other relations.

But then again, I really like Megan and I really like Bob Page.

The best character in HR was Eliza however, without a doubt, even if EM didn't really use her to her full potential, there was something about her that made me instantly like her, even more so after meeting with her. That certain naivete, those almost childlike qualities of her really got to me.

I find Megan Reed's dedication to her research respectable, though it doesn't surprise me that she provokes the reaction she does in some people. She's much like Morrigan in that regard, who is one of my all-time favorite Bioware characters.

Well I like Morrigan, but I dislike Megan.

Probably because we never get to see any.. uh... good times between them. We could melt Morrigans icy behaviour a little bit before she went "Love is a weakness" again. With Megan we start at that point and don't get to see much of her besides her whole... I don't know how to call it... science version of the Stockholm Syndrom at the end, while Jensen is doing all the stuff he does just because of her.

Since I'm a sucker for happy romance endings it didn't suprised me that my dislike for her went through the roof after that

That's actually (one of the few) problems I had with the plotline.

I'm comfortable with Jensen and Reed splitting up, but there was no resolution, no discussion, nothing. It felt like a very unsatisfactory conclusion between two characters who apparently cared about each other a great deal.

I sounded to me like they already had split up shortly before the start of the game. At least the whole "oh.. you fenced in your garden after all? Yeah... I never had the chance to start with that." conversation had that vibe, imo.

Oh, I'm not denying that they were split up, but you can clearly tell there is some unresolved love/tension between Adam and Reed based on their elevator conversation alone. And other characters (David Sarif, Reed's mother) do make comments about it. I didn't need a ten minute conversation about their relationship, but the parting did feel very lacking. I personally couldn't tell that they ever had a relationship at all, which was not good given how many times it was brought up.

Really? I felt that the love was still there on Adam's side but not on Megan's and that it was she who broke up with him.

Yup. Jensen was the one who still had feelings, at least in my opinion.

*spoiler warning*

I don't dislike Mega, not at all. I actually do like her. But I got the distinct impression that they were on the outs and has already split at the start. Megan and Adam as a couple doesn't make much sense since on personal and professional levels they are sort of polar opposites. The information that was revealed by the investigator that Sarif hired and some of the things that he (Sarif) said, and then some of the things Megan said later, leads me to believe that the only reason Megan was with Adam to begin with was that she needed to keep him close because of her research, because he was the research. They didn't really explore the back story between them, so all I have to go on is the compelling evidence that was presented throughout the game. Plus, it's not difficult to pick up on the growing attraction and bond between Adam and Malik. I honestly think the two would make a great couple.

Adam and Malik are compatible coworkers, probably would do well for a night at the bar, but personal experience tells me that doesn't always translate to a good relationship. It could, and I can see people wondering if they're going to give it a go, I just don't immediately dismiss Adam and Megan's relationship because Malik would be, like, totally better for him.

By the time we start the game, Adam and Megan are over. You're not going to see how they work as a couple because they've already decided they are not a couple. You only get glimpses of what they were, such as the fact that Megan's mother appeared to rather like Adam. That they shared a dog and a house that Adam never got around to putting a fence. Megan keeps a little toy car in her office from their first date.

I honestly don't think that Megan only dated Adam to use him as her lab rat. I don't remember if there's a specific timeline given for when research began on Patient X, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't only until after Adam started working for Sarif. I could be wrong about that, but honestly, Megan might be completely dedicated to science, but she doesn't strike me as someone who would come across a medical report and then seek out the guy to date just so she can have use his DNA in her research.

No, Megan and Adam's relationship was over prior to the start of the game for undisclosed reasons. Though it seemed implied during the elevator ride she still had feelings.

But its a shame there wasn't some ability to pursue flirtations during the game. Maybe not in a big Bioware way, but on a lesser level. I thought Jensen had far more chemistry with Malik and Jenny Alexander than he ever did in any of the scenes with Megan.

I was surprised how much I ended up liking Pritchard by the end. I thought in the beginning I'd hate him. I think the funniest bit with him is when you finally find out why he 'dislikes' Jensen.

I'm not saying that Malik would be better for Adam, just pointing out my perception of a growing attraction. And I don't think it a stretch to assume that Megan and Adam are beyond reconciling a love affair, one that we have only tiny bits and pieces of information about. This is where I felt the story fell very short. There was no real back story development to explain where they were at the start, and they just left it dangling at the end of the game.

Sure, there are indications that the two had something real between them, but we have no idea if it started out on innocent terms or not, we have no idea how they ever met to begin with. We certainly know that she did use Adam for her research, and kept it from him. I also believe she knew everything Sarif knew from that investigation into his past. Being dedicated to science is one thing, but secretly using the person you are supposed to be in love with as a guinea pig might speak volumes.

I do wish that they would have resolved this between Megan and Adam in some way though, irregardless of anything brewing with Malik.

She died in the first play through for me too.. though she is alive and well in my second! I honestly thought there was no way to prevent her death and thought it was just scripted to happen that way. Glad I found out otherwise!

Its something of a tip of the hat to the first Deus Ex. Where you're presented with a death you're led to believe you can't do anything about, but you can choose to rage against 'fate' and win against rediculous odds. And the game lets it happen. One of the best moments of both games.

Aye, I agree with that. I hit those Belltower thugs like the wrath of god to save my fly girl and it was glorious! The only moment where I actually used the rocket launcher and mopped up the rest of those fools with close combat finishers.

It's been a very loooong time since I played the first game, so I can only remember bits and pieces of it.

Yeah, shouldn't be surprised, I could see some attraction on both sides, even after the quite apparent split between them, though, part of it might just stem from the fact that I personally do find Megan quite attractive.

In the end, though, Jensen/Malik probably would work out "better" as a couple, jensen/Megan quite obviously weren't OTP or anything.

And on saving Malik: Yeah, it was one of those moments that reminded me of the original DX, sadly, there wasn't that "Kill Anna Navarre on Lebedevs Jet"-moment in HR.

Because after doing that, finding out the game ALLOWED me to do that and that it even reacted to it was the thing that made me fall to my knees and proclaim that Deus Ex is the best game ever. And it still is, which is quite sad, 11 years and not a single game has even come close to the brilliance that was Deus Ex. Even Human Revolution falls quite short when compared to the original (not that HR isn't a good game, it is, really good in fact, I would say it is the best game this year and the best RPG of this year, at least for now.)
