It's pretty amazing game, only rivaled by The Witcher 2 this year IMHO. I do not like the boss battles though, they seem out of place and forced to me.

yea, didn't like the Tyrants in this, didn't like the Reaper Baby in ME2.
Bioware needs to get there game face on tho, DA2 got owned by TW2, can ME3 beat DXHR?

Well I understood what they were trying to do with their boss fights. They wanted to be sort of like Metal Gear Solid encounters where you have to adjust your tactics for the sake of the boss. Only problem is that certain abilities negate the bosses effectiveness and turns the encounter into a curbstomp for the player.
Another issues is the design of the boss "arenas", they are a little bit too similar, so each time you encounter the boss room you know what to expect.
Honestly they should not have had normal boss fights, they should have had the boss character present in the level, patrolling, and should you choose to you could either take them on, but alert all the guards in the area with the gunfight, or avoid them. Killing them would award a Praxis Kit and a special weapon.

Amazing game, Done a street samurai style run (lots of violence + hacking) trying a more stealthy run now, then it's time for a Gandhi 'no one dies today' run.
Also: Jennsen or Shepard, who is more badass?
Jensen doesn't feel badass to me, or maybe thats due to my peaceloving, caring interpretation ;-)
He does have some very bad ass close combat moves though.
Shepard feels more badass in dialogues.
Jensen looks/feels cooler, but Shepard has better lines.

The game is really fun. I figured the deal with the biochip, but went for it anyway to see what happened. I had a laser rifle, so that actually trivialized the encounter (the way the consequence works out, it actually makes it easier to do certain things in-game).
Yeah, I pieced it out as well. What actually happens if you go to the Limb Clinic?

I am not particularly crazy about the AI. I have several times had people chase me down. But instead of trying to kill me, they'll just turn around and look into a wall.
The combat system is OK, but really only merely OK by today's standards. I'm not looking for something flashier, but of all the upgrades you can get, not too many actually deal with combat. So the combat part is actually pretty standard stuff. Oh and the first boss fight is horrible.
Last but not least, I love and hate the praxis system. It's certainly fun, but a lot of the abilities also seem useless to me, like they weren't completely thought through. The energy system where only the first cell regenerates also seems like an unnecessary limitation to me. If you want to know what I mean by useless, take a look at the stealth tree. Way too many points to spend on something you'll figure out for yourself as you play.
EDIT: Oh yes. The inventory system. How could I forget! I have the preorder stuff, so I ran out of space right away. That made me a bit cranky. I don't think you should have to spend praxis points on upgrading your capacity either. But I guess that's why I don't design games. I don't understand these things

Because this game is faithful to the original.

Punch through a wall and snap someone's neck. It'll change your opinion.

Speaking of which, how do I do that. I purchased that aug but I can't do it, do I need the eye augmentation too?Cutlass Jack wrote...

Note that you can actually destroy punchable walls without the aug. You can just shoot them or blow them up instead. They are harder to notice without the aug though (they look like normal walls with small cracks in them), so unless you are very thorough you are almost certain to miss them. So I still think the aug is worth it.

I'd say Blade Runner is the biggest influence, but the Matrix is there too.

That's why I complained about the energy system. I can't actually do that without constantly munching on energy bars. Some of the takedowns look very cool, but when you just punch someone in the face or do a chokehold on them, I wonder why it costs Jensen energy to do something any combat-trained individual could easily do without augs.
By the way, now that we're talking about it, I also like the UI.

On the energy system: I do find it lame you can't at least upgrade to recharge more than one. But if you're playing reasonably stealthy you can make the one bar you can recharge last you the entire game with minimal eating.
I think the reason they make the melee takedowns use energy is the same reason every non-lethal weapon only holds one round and has a longish recharge. The game would get too easy/fast if you could chain knockouts and make other styles less valid.
Based on how I played Alpha Protocol, I can see the point of it. I meleed my way through the entire game killing no one and barely getting injured.

I was getting more ME2 flashbacks in the intro.
- Game starting Mysterious smoking man looking at readouts
- Watching helplessly behind glass walls while innocents get shot by gun arms
- Sytlish cutscene of them rebuilding my body
- Etc.

By the way, I heard there were praxis points hidden behind walls, but I haven't found those yet. Still in Detroit though, so maybe I still have a chance of finding the ones I missed.

Otherwise the game was very easy when you can hack everything. Though the part where you save Malik in the Helicopter was super awesome. I was so pumped doing that scene, takedowns and quick thinking... it was an action movie moment to be sure. I loved it. Overall a great game I can't compare to the Witcher, I have it but I didn't like it and barely got maybe 5 hours into the game.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a fun time.
