DXHR is such a disappointment. As a fan of the original game, i felt so restricted. I can't believe how ridiculously consolized the game had become.

How so? The level of exploration in each level was amazing, I thought.

I recently played the original game, so my opinion may be extremely biased. I didnt like the fact that u couldnt pick up most of the stuff and throw them around like in the orginal game. Absolutely hated the new cover system. Also didnt like the way many augmentations were handled. I liked the old toggle system better.

I really expected deus ex 3 to bring gaming back to the old days. Like when u didnt have maps, glowing direction markers, regen health etc etc.

Barrett is still frustrating though. In particular, he keeps throwing grenades that'll kill you in one hit. I managed to get close to him once, and I got locked down by his grab move (it might as well one-shot you if you can't get away). I think maybe he was spamming grenades a little extra because I was cloaking. In the end I found it easiest just to run to cover, headshot him a couple of times with my pistol, then run to another cover. None of my abilities seemed to help much.

If you have EMP grenades, you can finish him quickly becuase they stun him. I believe the stun gun also stuns him.

If you don't have any of these abilities, you can just aim blind from cover. That's how I killed him. Exhausted all of my ammo for the pistol & rifle, but totally worth it.

Stun + 3-4 exploding barrels should do the trick. For my second play through Barret wasn't as bad. I'm more worried about fighting Yelena again. Image IPB

Heh, here's a neat little fact I just found out. Adam Jensen's voice actor Elias Toufexis is married to Michelle Boback who is Megan Reed's voice actress.

The Saving Malik sequence is nuts on Give Me Deus Ex with a non-combat character. I had a fully upgraded typhon so that made it semi passable... but it was brutal. Took my 6 or so retries, though. Funny enough, killing a small army was *easier* than killing Barret.

Just played through that segment last night and loved it. Definately brought back memories of being able to save my brother in the original game when the game beats you over the head with not being able to do it.

It was one of the two segments of the game where I dropped my 'Stealth & no-kill' rules. (the other being the Pod Hotel fight where they killed all the innocents). My Jensen is very scary when he drops that rule. Costs me that achievement but worth it for RP reasons.

I keep a fully upgraded revolver around for just those moments. Dirty Harry with explosive rounds is a beautiful thing. That gun also chewed up Yelena without being able to see her. Shame the gun wasn't upgraded for Barret.

I did that part last night without killing anyone, took me three tries as I only had two tranquilizers left, and luckily there's a hidden emp grenade there to deal with the mech, but you must be really, really fast and careful.

I could have done it without killing anyone. But in my opinion there are a few points where the enemy doesn't deserve to live.

They're gone because they're not user friendly. The things you listed are one of the main reasons why I hated the first one and gave up after the first mission. Maps for example are a must if you've got a big area to explore(there's nothing fun about getting lost and spending an hour find your way back), pretty much the same with objective markers. As for the cover system. it's a useful tool in some situations, for example peeking around corners when you're sneaking around. But to summarize what I'm trying to say: It all comes down to what's good game design and what's bad. Make something needlessly complicated or difficult and people will hate it(even with small details like how the saving system works) Imagine if you were playing a game in which the only way to save is a checkpoint system which only kicks in every 2 hours. Sure it might seem like a challenge but most will frustrated and turned off by this(I know I would). I studied Game Design as a part of my course so I know a bit about the subject and what I mentioned about good game design is a proven theory. In any case, the ideal in game design would be somewhere in-between(not too simplified because it would be too easy and striaghtforward, not too complicated you don't want to bog down the game with too many limitations)

I had to fight Barret twice. First time I died in about about 7 seconds. Second time he died in about 7 seconds. I lobbed an EMP grenade to stun him then hit him a couple of times with the rocket launcher I found not long before facing him and some frag grenades.

Yelena was much worse. I hated that fight and it took me several attempts. In the end up I had to use a combination of EMP grenades, frag mines and a magnum that had no upgrades at all.

I've only played about 4 or 5 hours so far but so far but I must say I'm really enjoying it.

I'm not a fan of the hacking mini game however ( then again I have yet to play a single video game that has made hacking interesting and fun, I keep wondering why so many game developer keep putting hacking mini games into their video games ). Maybe I'm a bit slow on the uptake but I don't really understand what I am supposed to be doing during the hacking mini games, more often than not this means that I have to re-attempt many of these hacks after I've failed the first time around, this means a lot of sitting and waiting around for firewalls to come down or re-loading saves.

This game has one of the best Hacking systems I've seen once you figure it out. At least the closest to the Shadowrun/Cyberpunk tabletop versions I've seen in a game. Its actually pretty strategic but it does require you to know what all the various nodes do and planning your route before you starte hacking.

The tutorial doesn't explain it very well though. Next time you have a hacking map up, click the 'help' button on the bottom of it. It provides full description of what every node does. Use this info to your advantage.

Also what the game doesn't tell you is that your Hacking Capture rating doesn't just determine which terminals you can hack. It also your 'attack power' when hacking. Your capture rating is compared against the node rating to determine how fast you can capture it. Boosting that upgrade early can make the whole thing alot easier.

The enemy backtracing you uses the same system. The 'red' node's power is compared to the number of the node its trying to pass through to determine how fast it can track you. If you can capture a spam node, it lowers the enemy's attack power buying you lots of time. Also fortifying the nodes you capture slows it down even further.

Use 'stop' software to buy yourself more time. Nuke software instantly captures nodes with no chance of detection. So it gives you two ways to use it. Either early to take out a tough node while no alerts are running, or when you are running out of time and need to capture something fast.

Once you figure it all out and get the upgrades the system gets dirt simple. Don't waste points on the Analyze upgrade though.

Exactly. Games should make you think, yes, but not make things unfun. Plus, everyting in DX3 was done in context.

It actually matters about the same as the choices and choice imports to DA2 or The Witcher 2. So I honestly don't understand when people say "choice matters in this game rarrrr".

I've become a big fan of hacking in this game and I'd like to add a bit to the post above. It's not a particularly deep system, but they've managed to do what very few games get right - they created a minigame that didn't annoy me from day 1, and one that's actually seriously rewarding. I've found I never run out of viruses for difficult situations because I hack everything, and there are tons of easy networks that'll give you viruses for later. Never use codes if you can hack instead. You're just missing out on credits, viruses and XP.

I would very much advise getting hacking stealth. It's pretty awesome to sit there unlocking half the network undetected. If you get caught, disconnect and try again, no big deal. Fortify is helpful I guess but I haven't really needed it so far. As mentioned about, the hacking analysis aug is worthless though. Don't take it, just unlock everything in each network instead. It's quite doable and worth it.

PS: I'd say I'm a bit more than halfway through the game, and I've unlocked almost every skill I wanted. There's no shortage of praxis points if you buy from LIMB and search a bit. Don't really know if I want Dermal Armor. Doesn't seem like I need it with the playstyle I have now (sneak and takedown, silenced weapons if I get bored with the sneaking).

I will say Dermal is worth it for the emp upgrade. Not only are you immune to emp grenades, but it also lets you stroll right through electrifed water with no damage.

But yeah I'm a little surprised at how many praxis points you can rack up. Its only a question of when you want an upgrade not if you get it. You had to make harder choices in the previous Deus Exes.

So Cloak and Daggers quest near the very beginning of the game is glitched at least for me. Anyone know of a way to finish the quest? T-Bone is somewhere in the sky ><

EDIT: Nevermind I just shot into the sky where the marker was with a sniper rifle.

Did anyone else see the little scene after sitting through the credits?

I was wondering why he wasn't in the actual game (being in the first Deus Ex and all) and I had forgotten how much I loved that theme music!

Agreed. I'm currently halfway through Picus Corporation and I have all my hacking augmentations maxed, dermal armor 2/3, cloaking maxed, most of the energy tree, every individual tree except social, etc. I feel like the Stealth Enhancer tree could do with a buff. The ability to mark enemies is pretty handy, but the sound radar + cones of vision are lackluster at best.
