This game has one of the best Hacking systems I've seen once you figure it out. At least the closest to the Shadowrun/Cyberpunk tabletop versions I've seen in a game. Its actually pretty strategic but it does require you to know what all the various nodes do and planning your route before you starte hacking.
Not really. You can totally speed run through it, and there are only usually 2 or so paths to the goal, too. I think they could have made it harder.
Still one of the best hacking systems in a video game. Agree that if could have been made harder. I don't get to use my nukes and worms even for a level 5 diff hack. And I only used praxis for lower detecion (3) and being able to hack level 5 difficulty. No need to waste praxis points on fortify and identify trees.

Awesome! As much a Badazz as this:

So far I'm enjoying it so much that I actually don't want to finish it. Although I feel I'm very close to the end. So I'd more than welcome DLC.

You can actually buy it....But it will cost you £165, although you can buy trench coats from most places for better prices. I own several.

The trench sadly looks nothing remotely like the one he wore. So pretty silly offering on their site. But not nearly as silly as the 'jeans.'

Completed it a few hours ago, fantastic game, fantastic ending. I won't mention any spoilers for the sake of those here who haven't completed it. I haven't enjoyed stealth on this level since the days of Splinter Cell DA. And I really want Jensen's coat.
Just finished it myself. I'll agree it was a fantastic game. Ending I wasn't as happy with. I disliked that you could see all the endings by pushing a button and reloading. I would have greatly prefered having the ending be based on the totality of how I played the thing.
Combined with the fact I got nearly every upgrade I wanted by endgame, it does take away substantially from replay value. Hard to complain though since I had 89 fun filled hours getting through it the first time. The level of detail in the game was really impressive. I loved that only half the story was told through the narrative itself. The rest was told through the environment. Email, Newscasts, visual details in the world, etc. Everything added up to paint a bigger picture if you investigated it all.

Honestly, I would pay for an expansion. Unlikely, but I think I've found my Game of the Year.

Right now, yes. I think the polish and superior gameplay places it over TW2, though TW2 will always have a real branching plot.

In my defence i was still bitter on spending good money on the pre-ordered version; Only to not be able to play it for 3-4 days , then have it crash and be all "choppy".
The game definitely grown on me since then. That said i still stand by my earlier remarks: Managing the inventory could have been less tedious, The augs could have been better conceived/diversified, and hacking is turning me into a ticking time bomb of insanity.
DEHR: Come on dude, hack it! Its only a lev1 hub, with 15% chance of detection.
Adam: Dunno , the last 3 times you said that it triggered the alarm.
DEHR: Yeah but 4 times in a row? The chances of it happening again are astronomical.
Adam: ... I better nuke it , just to be sure.
DEHR: And then what? Its your only path to the other nods , plus you have a lev 3 there. Dont be a square.
Adam: Okay. Didn't spend all those praxis points on two hacking trees for nothing *Start hacking*
DEHR: ALARM! ALARM! ALARM!
Adam: You ****er!
DEHR: Oh , now i'm taking this hub and that hub , up , down, left , down, Gotcha!
Adam : Bravo Douche ex.
DEHR: Yeah! I win again. I'm awesome i know.
On that note , is there any way to go around hacking? I'd much rather have the Bioshock version of hacking... (plumbing) but since i'm stuck with this , and i feel so much of the story is kept behind hacking it feels like a must. Can you , for example, knock down doors with high enough Strength ?
Really wish they'd made a training tutorial to display every option at the start...

I haven't been able to sink my claws into TW2 yet, unfortunately so I can't really comment. Once it hits consoles, I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.
But I'm replaying Human Revolution now and noticing even more that the presentation is phenomenal, from the graphics, to the soundtrack, to the dialogue. The developers hit all the right spots.

I don't consider the presentation or writing in TW2's league, but it is a more polished game, and it has solid gameplay. It's not all fluff, like so many action games try to pass off these days. I'll be playing Deus Ex several times I think.
I hope we get a free dlc pack or two.

LOL. I feel your pain! But like I said, with a level 3 detect reduction, even level 3 nodes are 15% and level 4 are 35%. If I get detected, I "disconnect" and try again. Somehow, on the last possible attempt, I don't get detected at all even on level 5 nodes! =) (now I'm holding 38 nukes and 25 stop worms and I'm starting to think I'll never really have to use them but for lower skill hackers, they are surely a huge help. I use some nukes just for the sake of it sometimes and Stop worms when I'm detected at the end of a long hacking path)
The only trouble I have with hacking is those few data storage placed after the red nodes (never paid attention to their names, but it is where the system counter hacks when intrusion is detected) There is no way to get those rewards because once I hack the red nodes, it's the same as hacking the target one and hacking is completed. *sighs* That hurts an OCD hacker!
As for avoiding hacks, there are always some other path, pocket secretaries with the codes and stuff like that. Exploring in this game is fun! Traveler and Pathfinder extra XP always put a big smile on my face! (extra high jump skill and the parachute augmentation are a must for some of them though)

I've been able to to hack even at level 1. I love it and it makes me
think hard and now I am familiar with it, I don't know if I'll use more
Praxis pts more on that in this stage of the game for me.

Oh yeah, even at level 1, with 45% detection chance, it is still possible to get it all done without being detected. Some luck I guess. And using the hacking tools available, nukes and worms, helps a lot at that stage too. But there are so much XP, cash and tools rewards in hacking that I can't help it but spending all my first praxis on detect reduction and increased hacking level. All those level 2 office doors at the HQ... and all their funny secrets... are too good to miss!

Suddenly look? ME2's hacking minigame was always old and crusty. And even less complex than this children's basic card game which is the same principle the ME2 minigame was copied from.RinpocheSchnozberry wrote...

The writing in Deus Ex has to have crazy conspiracy vibes. The original is even more plain off-the-wall NUTS, so in that sense Human Revolution is a throwback.

Only thing I was surprised by in terms of plot: didn't the developers state that Human Revolution would actually show us the formation of UNATCO?

All of the Manderly e-mails at the beginning, plus the FEMA death camps, plus the Bob Page ending.

Spoiler ahead, beware.
So yeah, it was a good game. A bit too easy, really, first playtrough on "Give me Deus Ex" non-lethal and basically no problems ever. And while the level design was good, they always seemed to lack that certain vastness I was hoping to see. And there is just too much praxis available in the game. (I had all augments that were even somewhat useful opened & upgraded to the max at the end). Storywise.. yeah, the writing was good, there was only 2 places where I thought that there was lost potential, after the Yelena fight and the ending.
I'm still kind of pissed I couldn't save Yelena, I'm imagining this brutal interrogation scene with her if saved.
part of post edited out, did some googling instead.
