Recently purchased and installed this game on my HP Pavilion DV6. Inserted Disk #1 after installation and tried to run the game. I get an error "Failed to authenticate the disk". I am running Windows 7 64 Bit. Tried running in administrator mode - didn't work. Removed the disk and re-added. It didn't work - same error.
Please help or I'll take the game back for a re-fund.

You could try skipping the disc entirely. Several folks have found it helpful to be able to download the digital version of the game (through EA's Origin program, formerly known as EA Download Manager) and skip having to fool with the disc. You have to be sure and "uninstall" any files that might have been installed previously Mass Effect 2-related, and then use EA's Origin program to get the game through it and activating the game afterward by entering your CD key when asked for it.
The program is here (I hope. Never know when one person's link is not available to someone else's account.):
support.ea.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/52/showhome/true
Or you can search Google for "EA origin game download" and you should get the right help page. A LOT of people have had to do that for whatever reason. Hope it helps you.

There is no official support on this site. We are all gamers here, looking to one another for suggestions. EA is the only Official Support. EA uses some odd feature or function on game disks that confounds the better quality DVD drives, most especially those able to both read and to write disks.
There may be a smudge on the disk istself, an invisible fingerprint, perhaps, or a brand new bit of lint may have gotten in the drive, interfering with the ability of the drive to function correctly. EA themselves typically recommend getting a (free) digital copy instead.
(If you want to express personal irritation, do so on the EA Help site, not here.)

Stupid question time...which disc do you have in the drive?? There should be two discs and only #1 will play the game.

Thanks team for your help. MUCH APPRECIATED. Yep using disk #1. I read a lot of other posts about the issue but no one has solved the problem. I'm hoping that downloading the game will not mean I have to buy it again...
