Hello all fellow NWN-diehards,

Long did I expect the death of NWN as it would slowly run out of the market and away from the store shelves, but thankfully, as we all know, gog.com came along. For the community to continue to live on, it's given that there needs to be an influx of new players to counter for the inevitable - even if by now small - outflux there will be. Not to mention that new players revigorate any gaming community.

It seems viable to conclude that many of the new players should come from the gog homepage, but what strikes me when reading the description given there is that it does not at all mention that the massive amount of community made free content to be had nor that there's still a very active community and even online servers where you can play more or less equivalent to MMORPGs for free.

What I was wondering is whether we as community could somehow encourage gog to add some detail on this on their page dedicated to NWN, perhaps even with links to places like here. It would in the end be a win-win solution, as it could only boost gog's sales.

That I write here is of course because I expect that it would be easier to persuade gog if there's wide support, but also so that there can be some impartiality in judging what is important to add (or if it's a good idea at all). That we remain unified as a community is after all as important as new players to guarentee the future of the game we've all grown so fond of.

What do you say?

Yeah, it's covered by the NWN forums there so the GOG community and anyone checking the forums after the purchase is informed. But I bet there are still enough people who just come to buy and ignore the forums, as well as the fact that NWN is more than the official campaign. I agree that it wouldn't hurt for GOG to mention on the game page that NWN is not just a game but that a powerful game editor is included. After all that's the truth and the basic idea behind NWN and it adds more value to the package, so I think all sides would benefit from mentioning it. Did you contact the GOG team about it? I don't think you'd need wide support to get the idea across, it should speak for itself.

Good idea. Contacting the GoG team would be the first step.

Didn't notice that gog had their own forums for each game, but I figure that just puts on display part of the issue. I agree on the assessment that it's likely the minority that goes to those forums after having purchased the game - the game description (as is the core issue) does not at all suggest that there's more to look for.

I would write to gog.com myself, but the reason I write here first is - as mentioned - because I want to make sure that the essential is covered. As I see it, there's four points that continue to distinct NWN from the competition, even today (excuse the poor attempt of sales-lingo):

1. Massive and greatly varied amount of user made content - thousands of unique adventures all available to download for free. No matter your preferences of what makes a good RPG, all from deeply storydriven roleplay to high fantasy action awaits you in such plenty that it will keep you going for years.

2. Powerful yet userfriendly tools for content creation. The large amount of usermade content is no coincidence. Where it usually takes a tech-savvy and highly devoted team to expand a game beyond what you get in the box, NWN allows for single individuals to tell epic tales without the need of sacrificing their personal life. A long list of authors working on their own have created adventures that have won awards and the hearts of the community.

3. Largely varied and free online experience. Much like playing a MMORPG but without subscription fees or having to worry about buying additional things for the game, NWN Persistent Worlds (PW) are places to experience unlimited adventures with friends and players from all over the globe.

4. Because NWN features an actual DM client, it is a perfect medium for actual online roleplay, both on PWs and in private games, giving you the opportunity to experience one of the only online interactive roleplay mediums that can match the experience of a pen and paper game.

Many of the reviews mention player made content too. I know mine did. The title was "Poorly Written, Weak NPC's, Overly Linear, Primitive Graphics, and Still the Best cRPG Ever Made". :P

It mentions all the point that Zarathustra brought up. So do many of the other reviews.

Very very good point Zarathustra217.

I'd be happy to email them and add support. The core description does not do the experience justice in any way shape or form!

I think I'll just go ahead and contact them - but do any of you have any suggestions, comments or criticism toward the points I tried to formulate? It's just that I think it would be easier if we could provide them something to add so they don't have to spend man-hours on that themselves.

And if they will accept inserting a link too, where should it direct them?

I think this is an excellent idea.  I'm not sure how much, if any, space they have to devote to it in the description, but we won't know unless we ask.  I'll be happy to second that the points you made above are excellent reasons to purchase the game.

I would probably link the Vault, since that seems to be where the majority of the community content is.  http://nwvault.ign.com/
