I posted this in the PS3 sub-forum, but it can easily apply to the Xbox version as well I believe

Please let us map more spells to the controller for the next entry in
Dragon Age.  This was the biggest pet peeve with Dragon Age Origins on
my PS3 that I was hoping would be fixed for Dragon Age 2.   As it
stands, we can only map 6 spells total, without having to bring up the
spell wheel.  It would be so easy to simply add an option for us to use
the R2 or L2 both for additional spell slots.   We don't need L1 and R1
completely dedicated to changing party members, that could easily be
mapped to the left and right d pad, leaving the up and down d pad for
target changing, and use all 4 triggers for spell mapping.

This
is the one part of the interface that extremely limits your overall
experience on the Ps3, that could be fixed so easily for Dragon Age 3,
especially with the number of spells a Dragon Age mage gets overall.

Thank you Posted Image

And third. Its bloody irritating, considering i cant play DA2 on a computer atm. I mostly end up sticking my damage spells on the hotkeys and then having to go into the menu whenever i want pull if the abyss and gravitic ring. Moar slots please!

i play console no-pause and choose

pull of the abyss
gravitic ring
blood slave
firestorm
winter's grasp
cone of cold

some spells may be switched depending on the encounter, but that's generally what i run with. give it a try!

I have been crying to BioWare about this since DA:O and MassEffect 2, but no one ever listenes. /sadface

Srysly though, every single current-gen BioWare game has this issue on consoles. ME1, ME2, DA:O, DA:A, DA2. There is never enough mapable slots to fully enjoy the game without pausing. I really wish they would give the controler scheme some more consideration and thought in the future.

This was stated before Dragon Age 2 came out. I don't think they really care about it, because they never post in these types of threads.

I am not a dirty console peasant, but let no one say I am not a benevolent ubermensch. I support more awesome buttons for the people!

on weapon swap should flip to a whole new set of 6 open buttons to bind!

btw if you didn't watch the fights tonight, you missed out!

I wouldn't like the weapon swap to have all new slots. I'd rather it be independent.

My suggestion would be to modify how the R2 button works. Instead of holding it down to access the other 3 spells, you should tap it to move to the next set of 3 spells. This was you have can 3-4 sets of 3 spells, and keep tapping the button to toggle between the sets.

Even the PC version doesn't have enough keybinds. I have no idea how you console guys do it.

Agreed. I suggested this exact same thing in this thread. social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/308/index/7851280/1

- More assignable slots for spells/talents (for Xbox360/PS3).
This is one thing that bothers me very much as a console player.
Having just 6 assignable slots is not nearly enough for a spell/power heavy game like this. In my latest mage playthrough I had at least 5 or more spells I would have been using constantly, if I didn't had to pause every time just to activate them. And even in my Warrior and Rogue games, I always sacrificed some "less important" talents for the sake of ease. Having to pause every time just to throw a Miasmic Flask is just not worth it for me. Anywayz, enough about me. :P

I think this could be solved by simply adding at least two more sets of assignables (+6 new assignable slots). And add a toggle feature for cycling through the assignable sets. Basically, instead of holding down your right trigger to bring up your secondary set of powers, you would just need to tap the trigger and your next set would come up and be ready to use. That way, you could easily switch between 4 or more sets of assigned powers, all ready to use without having to pause your game.
A simple feature like this would make the game a lot more enjoyable and hassle-free for a lot of us console gamers.

This shouldn't be to hard to implement, imo. I think the biggest problem is that these kind of requests are usually ignored by the devs, since not enough people are vocal about it.
You see someone open a thread about re-used enviroments and companion armor, and there will be a swarm of angry and disappointed replies. But when someone opens a thread about semi-advanced features like weapon-swap function and assignable slots, there will be about 5 of us ready to discuss and post suggestions. lol
So naturally, the devs don't see this as a priority, although everyone would benefit from it, if it were implemented.
I think it's foolish to expect any controler-scheme improvements in any future BioWare games, since character appearances and romances are apparently way more important than optimized control-schemes and fluid gameplay.

I second this and what suicadal baby said. I'd like the weapon swap button back and a second weapons set option in the inventory screen. i'd like a way to gain more quick slots in battle by using the L1 and R1 buttons (or at least one of those) for that instead. I'd like a "scan enemy" function as well (justlike FF games) so I won't have to keep my elemental immunity/weakness sheetw/ me every time I play. I'd also generally like more information on the character and talents/spells screen.

Bioware still has its head stuck somewhere it should not fit.  I swear that people who make games are half brainless.

Keep the setup they use now, but add a menu option that adds a few more "banks" of three (X,Y,B) that you cycle through using the Right Trigger.  With the setup used now, they only have primary and secondary, which is setup as a press and hold "Right Trigger" for secondary.  Thats fine to keep for those who don't care about extra slots, but at least add a menu option to change the function of Right Trigger from "press and hold for secondary" to "press and continue pressing over and over to cycle through a few different sets".

Best of both worlds, and it did not take rocket science to come up with a solution that uses the current setup, keeping it the same for people who want it the way it is, and adding more functionality for those who need the extra quick slots.  The same button we know and have been using could still be used, just add a setting that changes how it works.  They already do this in settings for Left Trigger, which can be set to keep the wheel open even when you let go of the trigger, or by default act like the left trigger does with "press and hold to activate, let go to close".

This is what happens when you have hire people based on a piece of paper, fancy suit, and whatever BS they can vomit up in an interview.  There should be an IQ, creativity, and practical test for employment.  Gods forbid the best qualified are hired.  I can hear the affirmative action crew, equal opp, and every other BS organization crying blasphemy at that notion.  Such nonsense.

EDIT:  @ The PC Comment:  I played DAO on the PC and had no problem with the amount of slots; it's just the PS3/360 which have this issue.  DA2 is a rental for me (hence playing it on XBox) because of the way they handled DLC with DAO/DA2 and ME/ME2 and how EA keeps screwing with the gaming industry.   BTW EA:  Keep messing with Turn 10 (Forza) by pulling a shared license on certain cars in order to sell more of your total crap Need for Speed games.  See how quick I cancel my all of my EA Preorders.
