Although I'm not a FemShep fan, some people apparently have no taste, because to me, that poster of FemShep looks far more like an angry teen goth more than a hardened Special Forces marine.. Image IPB

That said, I can't be too hard on the artist.  I fully understand that no matter whats said, beauty will always be a major factor when creating female characters.....often at the expense of realism.

With male characters on the other hand, aesthetics is considered, but it's not a driving force.

Yes, they changed 2 details you can barely see in the low rez photos they were using in the facebook poll. I'll say it again.  People voted for longhaired redhead shepard.  They got longhaired redhead shepard.  End of story.

You can say it all you like but it doesn't make you right.  The fans voted for Femshep 5 + long red hair.  Instead we get offered Femshep 2 + long red hair.  That doesn't sound to me as if Bioware "listened" to the fans at all.

you are an idiot it is 5 with the red hair instead of blonde, it is the exact smae shepard as 5 with a hair colour change, 2 and 5 have totally different face shapes and noses.

Get over it.

My aunt's wife was in the Air Force for a great deal of time and she's a strikingly youthful woman. This happens to either gender; it's not as frequent as seeing "regular" people, but there isn't really a unifying concept of someone being "hardened." A lot of our aging processes are sped up by physical stress, so those who cope with certain situations better than others tend to stay well-preserved (though it's not a guarantee -- genetic code is obviously a major factor).

Conversely, as previously mentioned, Sheploo is probably too old appearance-wise. He's not necessarily battle-weary, but simply weary. Given that in this world, also as previously mentioned, people live longer due to medical breakthroughs, he should actually look a bit younger.

So you see, the "aesthetics" of genders are flawed in multiple ways here. Still, I take it at face value. I've rolled a Sheploo once or twice, and I don't mind my visually pleasing Femsheps. Besides, I like my men gruff and Dutch, just like Sheploo... nng...

I have to say that I like Patryk's poster.

The face could have been better, but everything else is just perfect.

Well, yeah, but to be honest he probably did it under significantly more pressure than his fan work, so I can cut him a bit of slack. Sure, she looks vaguely cross-eyed, but I can overlook that because I think the overall aesthetics of the picture are amazing. You can't really tell on the full picture anyway, just the high-res cut.

How old is Shepard supposed to be?  In his early to mid 30s?  He look about right to me, as though he is still young but has seen and done a lot.  Miranda and Ashley also both look like ADULT WOMEN and not like teenagers..

And people living longer, doesn't necessarily mean they age slower.  People live longer today than they did a hundred years ago, but a 30 year old still ain't going to look like an 18 year old.

My dad is 38 and he looks 26. I also look very very young for my age. So that sir is debatable.

Also, just to clarify Carfax's somewhat rhetorical question: Shepard is chronologically 31, but biologically reconstructed to be about 29 (the age when s/he died). Also in the ME universe people do age slower, so Shepard looking early-mid twenties would be fairly normal.

It's just a drawing buddy. Just a drawing. This isn't a development for the game nor a special theme in the game, it's not an option that was added. Just a drawing made by an artist who already have done others. Why you get so upset for something that doesn't really matter for the game ? it's just a poster advertising. Do you realize ?
There will be others.

You like it, you do not, then move on. I don't know what's wrong with you guys.

I actually rather doubt that.

I bet that he started doing it once the Blonde Shepard was picked, and just didn't color the hair until the result was final.

It is a common misconception that Redhead Shepard is other than the hair color identical to the other FemSheps. She does however, have a different skin complexion. That, combined with the hair color make the face look weird. I'd bet it would look better for any other color and more regular complexion.

Still, it's awesome. It's just not perfect, but then again, what is?

Hmm. I hadn't thought about it like tha - you're probably right. That would explain a lot of the facial oddities compared to the rest of the image. Regardless, it is a great picture :D.

I've seen people that can look 10 years younger than their true age, especially when they are in their 40s, 50s and 60s..  However, there are marked differences between a full or sub adult and a teenager or sub teen.

For example, you won't see any 22 year olds that look like 12 year olds.  Why?  Because the human body undergoes many physical changes between those years in both sexes...

Let alone the many trials and tribulations that someone like Shepard has endured, and you begin to understand that anyone even remotely resembling a teen (or even young adult) couldn't possibly be Shepard.

Anyway, this is all subjective.  Some people are going to see nothing wrong with the poster, while others will be like "WTF!"

I'm in the latter group.  FemShep doesn't look anything like what you'd expect from the first human SPECTRE.

I was little unsure of the redhaired Shepard, but now I'm kinda glad that this one won.

Um, who said I was upset?  I never play as FemShep, so I could care less.  I was just commenting on the absurdity of her appearance in relation to what she is supposed to be.

Does Ashley or Miranda look like they are late teens?  Or does Kaidan?

Why does FemShep look so much younger than her peers?

You probably shouldn't bring Miranda into a looks discussion, considering she's likely had her grotesquely unnatural "assets" for quite some time.
