Me I don't like this picture. Shepard looks weird. It's just a poster advertising made by an artist.I know that there will others later. You see me crying and struggles as if this was an important development made in the game ? " Oh my god, in mass effect Shepard must looks younger, it's said in the lore that a boy who has 30 years olds looks 20. Bioware messed up.
friend : Well buddy, We don't care, it's just an advertising.
No, I just thought, mhhh, meh, I don't like it, I hope Bioware will do better poster advertising. that's it.
@ Carfax. The problem is that for a poster, you debate as if it was a new development of the game
you can say I love it, I do not and why. And move something else. This is not a subject that should be controversial, or become the subject of a great philosophy, a great debate. In my opinion. But, feel free. I just find this strange.

To be fair, Sylvianus, Carfax is allowed to have his own opinions, hence them being opinions. He never said that he was debating it like a new development of the game, but instead critiqued the work itself. You and I may not agree with him, but let's not deviate from discussion by putting words in each others' mouths.Sylvianus wrote...

Also, just to clarify Carfax's somewhat rhetorical question: Shepard is chronologically 31, but biologically reconstructed to be about 29 (the age when s/he died). Also in the ME universe people do age slower, so Shepard looking early-mid twenties would be fairly normal.
Does Ashley or Miranda look like they are late teens? Or does Kaidan?
Why does FemShep look so much younger than her peers?
I don't actually this femshep looks like she's in her late teens. I think she looks early-mid twenties (Patryk's artwork does make her look younger than the other official arts, however, like the wallpaper on the main website, which is probably a more accurate representation of how she'll look in game and on the box, etc).
Miranda is a number of years older than Shepard (biologically about 6, chronologically about 4), but I do get your point. She also looks like she's in her late twenties, rather than mid-thirties (partly due to being modelled on a RL actress who is that age). Ashley is technically younger than Shepard (I think 28 ish?), but looks her age. So, y'know what? It's probably arbitrary. I was simply pointing out that Shep looking younger than his/her bibiological age wasn't necessarily strange.
I do get where you're coming from, I just don't agree with you. Does this femshep match my personal vision of femshep? No. But then they look nothing alike. I do, however, think this femshep fits femshep 'in general'.

Anyway you know if they aged her then people would say she to old and needs to look younger. This is something Bioware can win at. I think she looks great and fits the role exceptionally.
Its a matter of individual perspective anyway. Some people think so, others dont. Its a fickle matter anyway and she has proven in two games that her looks are irrelevant in getting the job done.

I remember when this pic first came out, I really disliked it (and still do), everything about it looks so wrong. Honestly, who stands like that? To appear menacing? It looks like he's either airing out his armpits or straining on the toilet.. he looks goofy, silly and like he's clearly trying too hard to "look tough".
It was one of the few really poor pieces of artwork we've seen from Bioware.
Oh... and his avenger is sitting completely wrong on the magnetic plating on the back

When you put quotes around variables, it made me scan your post delicately, then I saw your userbar for ME Chronicles and thought of RPG Maker. So... many... variables...Phaedon wrote...
There are definitely a lot of "variables" there. The skin complexion and pigment, the hair color, the expression and the facial features in conjecture to the dark atmosphere could have been what lead to this effect. When I look at her carefully, she doesn't seem much younger than my two FemSheps. Her eyes are a bit too big though.
I should work on my game again.

FemHawke looked like she was in her early 20s to me, while DudeHawke looked like he was early 30s. Same thing now with Shepard.
Why this discrepancy exists is plain to me, but some people don't seem to be aware of the true reason, and thus delude themselves and try to justify or downplay those differences.

Thats a big part of the reason to be sure. Female characters always have to be sexy or attractive..
The other part, is that I don't believe Bioware itself takes FemShep or FemHawke as seriously as they do DudeShep or DudeHawke.
It shows in both the marketing, and the actual games themselves.

Well, yeah, obviously. I doubt anybody is denying that.
Amusingly, though, Hawke starts DA2 in her early twenties and ends in her early thirties. I also think M!Hawke only looks older because of his beard.
FemHawke is probably my biggest videogame crush ever, though, so I'm pretty biased.

Here's me hoping that the hair/eye mod will also allow to change the freckled skin but doubt that's gonna happen now. Good job screwing over 30k votes who voted for no-freckles.

EDIT: And seriously, can't we all just be happy that femshep is getting some marketting space and publicity that could draw in new fans and appease those that already exist, instead of ranting about how she is too ugly/too attractive/not hardcore enough/I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIIIIIIS.

But what has a femshep that you don't even have to use got to do with your own game experience?
