Now you're just looking for nonexistent issues to criticize.

No. But whatever. I'm not out on a hunt as to why the image sucks. I did
feel it necessary to give an explained reason why, because just going
"it sucks" didnt quite seem fair, but hours after first not liking the image, I was trying to figure out why is all, without bringing up those strong controversal topics as they do not apply in this regard.

Render versus painting: of course it's going to be comparatively flawed next to a static render, not to mention different.

what? yes they are different? huh?

FlyingWalrus wrote...
The nose is somewhat crooked and disproportionate, but the eyes are fine, the brows are fine, and the rest is either the product of angles, foreshortening or artistic liberty.

The foreshortening is bad and the angles (which are the same as the other image we've seen) do nothing to explain the altered facial features. Artistic Liberty is not a factor in this discussion.

It's a wonky face, and a badly proportioned figurative image. Many people have expressed their dislike of the image, as is their right to do so, and I'd imagine this thread is the best place to do it.

And as for it being normal for these artistic images not usually being equal to the in game likeness, you're right, but I think people are maybe a little unnerved as to why the likeness has shifted so much after endless voting where we have only seen one image previously and a completely different facial style was chosen.

So you like the picture? That's nice. I still don't. Let's be friends.

Shockingly, I've never actually watched all of Eva.

Neither is calling it "horrible." Horrible implies a crooked stick figure. This is a painting that takes years of dedicated practice of the craft to make.

Yes, they are obviously different, mostly because of the nature of each medium.

Again, you are criticizing a non-issue. The foreshortening may not be perfect, but it is certainly workable enough that this is the first complaint I've read about it. The angles come into play mainly on her face, which has her head angled low such that she's looking up through her brows. Furthermore, she is mid-grimace. These things can distort a person's face insomuch that they look different. It doesn't excuse the minutae of errors on her face, but, again, those are minor. Artistic liberty came into play when imagining her appearance rather than strictly copying that of the render, which is probably another reason why she looks completely different from what was expected; her face is a nice ruddy color instead of a pale, almost ivory now, and she looks rugged and disheveled. I'm going to guess that there weren't strict demands over what was expected of this art piece, otherwise we probably would have gotten something akin to the render.

You are free to dislike the painting. It is not "horrible."

We can be friends. :wizard:

I apparently won the thread earlier.  I hand you my win.  Despite the fact that I dread that animé and couldn't make it to the last three episodes.  Or maybe I just need to watch it when I'm on my anti-depressant medication.

I was kind of bummed out that black haired FemShep didn't win. I voted for the facial structure in the first round of voting, but once she made it, I couldn't understand why people had such a HUGE disposition towards red hair in the second round.

But now, looking at the OP's picture?

Damn. THAT is BADASS.

EDIT: Also, the edited pics in this thread win. ^^

Damnit! I stumbled into that pic right as I took a big swig of hot tea - I was about to laugh uncontrollably and spit it out onto my monitor, but managed to turn my head at the last second to spit it on the floor instead.... only to spit hot tea on my cat instead who was foolisly sitting next to my foot. :pinched:

And now I have to clean the cat and the floor... <sigh>.

I'm glad. :) There aren't enough main female heroines, especially with red hair. <3

Also, shut up all those going "WAAAHH, WAT ABOUT BLONDE SHEP"
She ain't gonna happen, get over it. Or just use your damn custom blonde shep in the game.

That picture was funny enough, now after reading that I'm laughing twice as hard - less the hot tea. xD Thank you.

As a fair warning, EVA gets no less depressing as you go on in the last six episodes.

And not entirely for the content of those episodes either.

That's like saying "Because this apple is not a pear, that is ok, because they are different." The apple still tastes funny, and there is no denying it.

It does become an issue when the pose of the figure is rendered
awkwardly enough that multiple people have commented that it looks
crosseyed, derpy or alltogether funny.

<sigh> yeah, I'm aware of how the proportions of a face change according to the angle in which it is portrayed, enough so that I can easily see that the proportions are clearly off.

Nor would a grimace excuse this level ofdistortion.

I wouldn't have expected an exact copy either. I would expect a further, accurate non-anime styled exploration into the new face people voted for.

The picture looks really good, not great, but good considering what he had to go off of. Nice to see he's making money off this now.

Also, art is different from ingame graphics. Concept art usually looks REALLY stupid compared to the actual ingame image, but maybe that's just my opinion.

I'm honestly a little sad to see Jane go... it feels like we're betraying her a bit, I mean, she WAS the default for ME1 and ME2... Also, what are we calling this Shepard? I mean, default Shepard is called Sheploo, original default FemShep was called Jane, it only feels right this one gets a name too, or are we just switching over the name Jane?

I am curious as to how Bioware will handle RedShep's long hair. Will it be constantly static and unresponsive to air current or will Bioware find a way to implement proper hair physics....

I'd say MacShep as she hails from either Ireland or Scotland. I hear she's a distant cousin of Groundskeeper Willy.

As for Asuka photoshop, it made me recall why I wasn't comfortable with red. She's one of the most annoying anime characters I've ever seen. Thankfully, there are some great characters like Ahmey from Tower of Druaga (badass, professional, strong and leading a group of characters, totally like FemShep) to overcome that feeling.
