Did Miranda have hair physics at all? Seeing as RedShep's head will in all likelihood be a prerendered texture, I assume her hair will work in a similar way.

Miranda's hair was pretty much glued to her body, like the Lady of the Forest from Dragon Age Origins. But RedShep's hair is too short for that but still long enough that you would notice it if the wind blew. Then again several of the old presets also had neck length hair but were evidently heavily waxed.

My guess would then be no, there won't be hair physics. Better hair textures probably, so they don't look like plastic, but no physics.

Haven't they said they were working on hair physics this time?

ME3 is using a different engine, which has hair physics.
Which is one of the reason behind the femshep polls/votes on facebook.
They're hyping the 3D hair physics....that have been around since the first Tomb Raider.
Just wait until they get to the breast physics!

Correction.

They're still using the same engine with some modifications.

Femshep is looking pretty ferocious here. Add a bleeding cut or two and she'd be a scary sight indeed.

Only if your playing the PS3 ME2

according to producer Jesse Houston ~ "One of the first things you’re going to see is improved graphics. We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into the Mass Effect 3 engine."

That would explain why the PS3 is occasionally clunky, seeing as the engine wasn't optimised for the content and it was pretty early in ME3's development at that point =P.

I played on PS3 though, it was pretty good!

Indeed, the focus of femshep hair colour is irrelevant when you think of the much more desirable and needed issue of some hair physics. I certainly wouldn't like to see static and plastic looking hair meshes for a third time. Seeing Ash's hair move leaves me with some confidence though

Mass Effect 1-3 all use Unreal Engine 3. BioWare have modified and tweaked the engine further with each game. It's why ME2 looks different to ME1. They're all on the same engine, but with different modifications and tweaks. The PS3 ME2 uses the ME3 version of the engine, it does not use a different engine. BioWare did not "create" the engine, they modified one of the most popular ones currently in the market and have tweaked it successively with each game in the series.

Second actually :P In Tomb Raider 1 Lara didn't have the ponytail because they couldn't finish the coding on time :)

Window XP and Windows Vista are both still "Windows" even though they are different versions, would you call that the same engine?

Oh yeah, yup, you're right she had the little nub ponytail bun thing.

Operating systems are a different story. Though a better comparison would be 7 to vista maybe?

Half-Life is GoldSrc, which is a heavily modified Quake engine.
Half-Life 2 is Source, which was built almost from the ground up. The similarities are few.

All the Mass Effect games are on the same engine, OK? It's the same engine that powers Gears of War 1-3, Bulletstorm, Unreal Tournament, Alpha Protocol, Hunted: The Demon's Forge and so on. They all run on Unreal Engine 3. However, they use different versions of Unreal Engine 3 (It's still the same engine, though!) and many have different modifications to it. Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 3, to use the two polar examples, both have the same engine, but the changes and version are different.

Mass Effect 3 does not run on a new engine. It runs on a newly modified and tweaked version of the engine. It will be a more up-to-date release of the engine, it will have different changes and tweaks done to it, but it is the same engine.

If I have a brick, it's a brick, right? If I paint that brick blue and stick googly eyes to it, it didn't stop being a brick, but it's modified. It's still the same brick, however. That is what we're talking about.

I loved Blondie, but I'm just super excited that femShep is getting all this attention! Not sure how I feel about the artwork though. His other stuff is really great, but I'm not really a fan of the femShep one. Her eyes freak me out, but then again, Shep gets a mean case of wonkey-eye every once in a while, so I guess it's accurate!

Epic awesomeness.
I'm glad this version of femshep won.
Can't wait to see her in a trailer.

Here's something everyone should enjoy. Lol, well maybe not. But it should show us how good that art can look when handled properly. This is a revised version of the Femshep artwork by one of our own, quaigee.
Only thing changed is the eyes, but even I, who liked the old pic realize it's a vast improvement.

Have a look at her nose in that one, Amieera. It's broken.

Edit: It's broken in the original, too. Weird.

He changed the nose and mouth too, actually. :D
