Yes, they changed 2 details you can barely see in the low rez photos they were using in the facebook poll. I'll say it again. People voted for longhaired redhead shepard. They got longhaired redhead shepard. End of story.

It is still marketing. Every article about a game and/or it's content matters. Non-fans may not have voted, but they read the articles. It will make them notice the game and when they go to a store to pick up some new game, which one do you think they will most likely choose? The one they've read about at least 1 article or the one they know absolutely nothing about. Influencing people's spontaneous purchase decisions is a big part of marketing. Debates/contriversies help. Products are being talked about. And the entire FemShp thing was a free marketing for BioWare, gaming (and mainstream) websites were writing about it without any need to present new demo/send new screenshots. All in all, it was a brilliant move that can only help the game push even more copies.Mister Mida wrote...
Yet it seems they didn't care enough to vote. Both ME games have been sold over a million times. Yet only 100K people voted. Assuming they were all ME fans, it's clear that the majority didn't care. If some of them were folks who never played ME, it shows that even less cared.
But I'm not overestimating the debate outside of BSN. Really, google FemShep voting articles, it was everywhere. Even non-EA developers were talking about it like Cliff Blesziński, who tweeted about and he has over 100,000 followers who are obviously mostly Gears fans = hardcore gamers = the audience BW vies for with ME3.Mister Mida wrote...
Still, I find it impressive that it sparked the debate it did, even though I think you're overestimating the size of the BSN community.

You can say it all you like but it doesn't make you right. The fans voted for Femshep 5 + long red hair. Instead we get offered Femshep 2 + long red hair. That doesn't sound to me as if Bioware "listened" to the fans at all.

Which totally explains why blond femshep, even COMBINING blond and brown haired(dirty blond) femshep, was dead last in the second poll.
Most people had no idea there was a new poll. They thought blonde FemShep won and moved on.
Blonde FemShep got 31,000 votes. She dwarfed the redhead's votes. Period.
First poll had more votes because of all the articles and ESPECIALLY the link from Penny Arcade's front page, but even before that, shep # 5 was winning. I think most people heard of the second poll and many simply didn't care about the hair color.
Redhead won the second poll, by a mile, and the default FemShep is a redhead. Time to move on.

What are we arguing about? Are you saying that they somehow rigged the voting? They held a second vote. They went with the results. How is that in any way shape or form unfair?

Noo, Shimmer_Gloom, no! Don't encourage them. Back away slowly. There is no happiness or joy here. This is a black hole of Insane Troll Logic, you do not want to get into this "discussion."
Well said, Fata. In fact, I think I'll be getting the frak outta Dodge, too!Fata Morgana wrote...

I think the point CharmingCharlie is saying is that in the Facebook poll, the pictures presented for the 2nd poll were such low resolution, that no one would have known that the eye colour and skin had been changed for the red option.
That could be a legitimate argument. Still, what's done is done and I think it's better for everyone's mental health if we just look at the votes and say, ok redhead beat the blonde.

Oh yeah, it won by a mile. It won by 6,600ish more than 2nd place black hair. Yeah,Thats so much better than the first poll that had a winner at 31K and ahead of 2nd place by a landslide of 18,000!

Sounds most like some people didn't get what they wanted. You really don't think you are biased here? Look in a mirror, look yourself in the eye, and say with a straight face, "I am mad about this for logical reasons, not because of an emotional reaction."
