Yes, they changed 2 details you can barely see in the low rez photos they were using in the facebook poll. I'll say it again.  People voted for longhaired redhead shepard.  They got longhaired redhead shepard.  End of story.

You can say it all you like but it doesn't make you right.  The fans voted for Femshep 5 + long red hair.  Instead we get offered Femshep 2 + long red hair.  That doesn't sound to me as if Bioware "listened" to the fans at all.

Yes shep#5 won, and Bioware got a lot of feeback that people voted for that choice because of the hairstyle (like i did)....so they had another vote with different hair colors of that style.

Is that fair? I would say yes, and i voted brunette btw.

So like, as the pic above says....DEAL WITH IT.

Problem is, even if they went back and made them all have the same eye color and faces (which I still don't believe was changed in any of them because they all look the same to me) the blonde fans would then say "But that pixel is different in each picture!!! Change it again!!!" and it would go on and on and on and on.

Yet it seems they didn't care enough to vote. Both ME games have been sold over a million times. Yet only 100K people voted. Assuming they were all ME fans, it's clear that the majority didn't care. If some of them were folks who never played ME, it shows that even less cared.

It is still marketing. Every article about a game and/or it's content matters. Non-fans may not have voted, but they read the articles. It will make them notice the game and when they go to a store to pick up some new game, which one do you think they will most likely choose? The one they've read about at least 1 article or the one they know absolutely nothing about. Influencing people's spontaneous purchase decisions is a big part of marketing. Debates/contriversies help. Products are being talked about. And the entire FemShp thing was a free marketing for BioWare, gaming (and mainstream) websites were writing about it without any need to present new demo/send new screenshots. All in all, it was a brilliant move that can only help the game push even more copies.

Mister Mida wrote...
Still, I find it impressive that it sparked the debate it did, even though I think you're overestimating the size of the BSN community.

But I'm not overestimating the debate outside of BSN. Really, google FemShep voting articles, it was everywhere. Even non-EA developers were talking about it like Cliff Blesziński, who tweeted about and he has over 100,000 followers who are obviously mostly Gears fans = hardcore gamers = the audience BW vies for with ME3.

What are we arguing about?  Are you saying that they somehow rigged the voting?  They held a second vote.  They went with the results.  How is that in any way shape or form unfair?

Most people had no idea there was a new poll. They thought blonde FemShep won and moved on.

Blonde FemShep got 31,000 votes. She dwarfed the redhead's votes. Period.

First poll had more votes because of all the articles and ESPECIALLY the link from Penny Arcade's front page, but even before that, shep # 5 was winning.  I think most people heard of the second poll and many simply didn't care about the hair color.

Redhead won the second poll, by a mile, and the default FemShep is a redhead.  Time to move on.

Oh yeah, it won by a mile. It won by 6,600ish more than 2nd place black hair. Yeah,Thats so much better than the first poll that had a winner at 31K and ahead of 2nd place by a landslide of 18,000!

I didn't know there was a voting on how the Femshep would look but regardless I am still thrilled there will be a Femshep on marketing and not just a Male Shepard this time around! Now I would have liked to have the Femshep with black hair and blue eyes but hey it didn't go that way but I'm cool with it. I'm just hoping now there will be more available choices for customization of the Femshep in the game itself. Then I will be really happy! ^_^

Noo, Shimmer_Gloom, no! Don't encourage them. Back away slowly. There is no happiness or joy here. This is a black hole of Insane Troll Logic, you do not want to get into this "discussion."

Sounds most like some people didn't get what they wanted.  You really don't think you are biased here?  Look in a mirror, look yourself in the eye, and say with a straight face, "I am mad about this for logical reasons, not because of an emotional reaction."

Much like you can post this in as many threads as you want, and the default FemShep will still be a longhaired redhead.  Time to let it go and resolve to use your import Shepard, like you were almost certainly going to anyway.

In any case, it's pretty darn cool that femshep is getting marketed now, even though the voting was poorly presented (personally they should just put all the poll options in as high-res presets, in addition to the CC; most would stop moaning I think). I was always going to stick with my canon shep for all 3 playthroughs anyway *shrugs*.

I think the point CharmingCharlie is saying is that in the Facebook poll, the pictures presented for the 2nd poll were such low resolution, that no one would have known that the eye colour and skin had been changed for the red option.

That could be a legitimate argument.  Still, what's done is done and I think it's better for everyone's mental health if we just look at the votes and say, ok redhead beat the blonde.

Agreed :)

Again, never underestimate the power of a frontpage link from Penny Arcade, with a scathing editorial from Tycho, no less.  And yes, Redhead won by a mile, it was never close, and she won over the blond shep that won the first poll by even more.

Charlie, while I agreed with you two weeks ago (and still do somewhat) I would have thought you would of had time to cool off. Talk about being bitter. What should be a great day you've clouded with anger about something that is obvious but Bioware decided to ignore for whatever reason. The flaws are clear and recognisable. They are many and numerous. However femshep got some attention cant you at least be happy about it instead of carrying on with the same rant you did weeks ago?!

Yes your original winning vote never won, now your in the same shoes as everyone else felt originally. Yes it was a farse and I also did a thread saying I didnt want a second round. It happened anyway. However it frankly shouldnt matter. Just be happy something great has happened to femshep and stop being so hung up and angry about her looks. Judging by your avatar she wont be your primary shep anyway.

Nope I don't think I am biased here, I think Bioware was incredibly biased and unfair in the second poll.  This poll was supposed to be about give the fans what they wanted and we didn't get that result, we should all be angry about that.  At least 32,000 voted for Femshep 5 with blue eyes and a mole ONLY 5,000 voted for freckles and green eyes.

The second poll was supposed to be about hair colour only and Bioware put up crappy low res pics so you couldn't see the eye colour or freckles.  So it is reasonable to assume that people voted on hair colour ALONE.  That means the winning femshep is actually a blue eyed, pale faced femshep with a mole and long red hair.

Redhead FemShep: 19,000 votes

Whatever insane troll logic you need to invent to justify it, you're perfectly free to. But every single person here knows that you can't look in the mirror and say you truly believe what you're saying. You know in your heart that blonde won.

Deal with it.
