Never mind that we have weight capacity limits that can be upgraded now.
I saw this mentioned a few times. Was it ever specified what the weight effects?

Yes, And you even had less powers then for the class. All you did was make yourself harder to hurt, self heal, shot and shot harder.Shammybaby wrote...

Umm, it's the Soldier class, what powers did you expect him to have? Overload and Warp?Shammybaby wrote...
Is that the Soldier skill set?
3 of them are ammo, one of them is a secondary fire, another one is a weapon from ME1, and only two of them are skills- and they're physical.
I'd like my RPG back please.
Did you even play the first mass effect?
My question is did you play ME1?

All I have to go on is this:

Weight doesn't really mean physical weight... it's something else that we haven't really talked about yet. The idea is the same, but the result won't affect your movement speed.

Weight capacity is definitely related to how many weapons you will be able to carry. They have talked about "penalties" for carrying more than your class is supposed to, so we're still not sure of what those penalties are. As the post above points out, they have said that the penalty does not include movement speed.
Speculation and educated guessing would lead me to believe that more powerful weapons such as Assault Rifles, Shotguns, and Sniper Rifles will weigh more (in general) than lighter weapons such as Pistols and SMGs. Obviously heavy weapons will weigh the most, again generally speaking. So it'll probably be something like this:
Pistol A = 1 weight unit
Pistol B = 2 weight units
SMG A = 2 weight units
Shotgun A = 4 weight units
Shotgun B = 6 weight units
Assault Rifle A = 4 weight units
Assault Rifle B = 5 weight units
Shiper Rifle A = 5 weight units
Heavy Weapon A = 6 weight units
Heavy Weapon B = 7 weight units
Heavy Weapon C = 8 weight units
In that scenario, let's say an Adept has a hypothetical carrying capacity of 7 weight units. Also, let's say that the lower the weight unit, the lower the damage potential of the weapon. That would mean the player would have to prioritize/strategize in order to not incur a penalty and also think about ammo/versatility with weapons. Some combinations that would fall within the parameters could include

With an Adept, I also hear if you just wanna focus on improving your biotics and not use weapons that much you can do that and be more potent at the same time

So I can go around as an Adept carrying only a heavy weapon?
Would be suprised if that was so, but they have stated you can do an Adept playthrough with only a pistol

Technically you should be able to select no weapons at all, and go to town with only your biotic amp. I wouldn't recommend it because you're not playing ME as it's supposed to - using weapons and powers combined. It's like playing a Soldier without using powers, quite possible but rather boring.
I'm personally more interested in ammo management. Say my Adept's only going to use an assault rifle, can I use the available weight to add more (assault rifle) ammunition (instead of weapons)?

I plan to have my canon playthrough staying as an Adept, and playing through it using only sidearms, think that should make for a good combination of gunplay and powers, whilst staying biotic-specialised

Same here, but I like to play my Adept like those ME1 Asari Commandos. I'm definitely not going to gimp my Adept's biotic potential by carrying a crap load of guns - though I like the idea. Guess we'll have to wait to find out what penalties will be applied when exceeding weight capacity (I think power-cooldown, -duration, -damage versus firepower is a fair deal).

For clarification, I was just giving a hypothetical. I'm not even 100% Adepts will even be able to use heavy weapons. I just drew up that example to show how I think the system might work.
Personally I think it would be cool to make Heavy Weapons exclusive for Soldiers. They just don't seem to fit with any of the other classes' m.o.'s.

Soldier has a weight capacity as well, it is just much higher than all of the other classes' weight capacities. In the Soldier's power evolutions, you can see that there is even the option to increase weight capacity. I'm not certain about whether or not the Soldier will gain a bonus for not carrying weapons, but if I had to guess, I would say that there is no bonus available for the Soldier as it doesn't make sense for the class. The Soldier is designed to carry weapons, so the only thing that I could see happening is a penalty for carrying the heaviest version of every single type of weapon (unless the weight capacity is upgraded, in that case maybe there wouldn't even be a chance for a penalty).

i wouldnt like gaining more melee power becausei carry less weapons. if im not carrying alot of weapons, im prolly not concerned about being a good meleer. id like to see options in regards to pros and cons to carrying too many weapons. more weapons will prolly reduce your character abilities, seems like the easiest trade off.

Does anyone think the soldier carrying the Revenant, Widow, and geth shotgun is overpowered. Just those weapons in itself
No. Judging from the beta it looked like the guns shared thermal clips. I only noticed this because when the guy switched from his pistol to assault rifle he had a ton of ammo for his pistol (I think it was around 100 or so). Then when he switched back to the pistol after using a couple of thermal clips for his assault rifle, his pistol ammo was way down. If this is the case I think it'd be perfectly alright for a soldier to carry all those guns. In fact, I think it'd make for a better, thought out, soldier.

There's also something called Biotic Aura, which boosts your squadmates' biotic powers.
On armor you mean? I actually really like that idea. Well, I like anything that adds variability to guns, armor, powers, etc.
