Sebastian... I am disappoint

So here's Hawke walking down the Chantry steps with his brother after talking with Grand Cleric Elthina. Then she starts arguing with this bowman in some badass armor talking about murder. Cue the badass Human Noble theme from DA:O and I'm thinking okay this guy is going to be a badass. Then he does the iconic Robin Hood arrow through the parchment thing and now I'm like this guy is a badass.
Fast forward to Act II & III and I'm asking myself "What the hell happened to the badass? This guy is a ****." At least Varric and Isabela remained true to their intros. Anybody else think the same? I was disappointed by Sebastian. His intro is like false propaganda or something.

Anyway, his family had just been murdered so he's angry when you first meet him and he's just forsaken his vows. If you've spent any time with him by act 3 you've either tried to help him reclaim his role as prince of Starkhaven by rivalling him or you've helped him become a brother in the Chantry again by increasing friendship. That's Sebastian. What did you want him to do?

I dunno. The whole arrow through the parchment thing is... couldn't he rob the nobles in Hightown and give their riches away in Darktown or something. No, he's just a cry baby who wants direction. I rivaled him and spared Anders hopefully he becomes a sane and worthy antagonist for mage sympathizers. I was just disappointed that the best part of the character as a whole was his introduction.

He can't rob nobles because he wants to retake his vows but the Grand Cleric won't let him. He knows what direction he wants, but if you rival him you can change his mind about returning to the Chantry.naledgeborn wrote...

It's an RPG. In RPG's I'm really used to people not being able to tie their own shoes until I teach them. So a NPC that orders me to do his revenge doesn't make me think, "Wow, you're weak and lame." I just see it as part of the experience (literally, it's all about XP).
As for Seb's intro. It's fantastic. He's arguing with the Grand Cleric. He's epic. He has the coolest armor in the game. He has a cool accent.
And then you find out he's just a wishy-washy guy who can't decide if he wants to be rich and control a City-State or be a weak lay brother of the church.

Sure her intro wasn't near as great on Sebastian's was, but she turned out to be 200 times more awesome than he could ever hope to be.

When it comes down to sparing Anders or killing him, I pick Anders and scoff at Sebastian's threats.

Really? I found Shale irritating. She had basically no character depth.
Maybe not character depth (since she doesn't have many memories to build on), but i enjoyed her sense of humor the most. Plus she is one of the best neutral third parties in the game (other than when it comes to birds, golems being better than creatures of flesh, or mages). Her having no memories or biased opinions on thing, she is a total outsider looking in, and she calls them just how she sees them.

EDIT: And it's so hard to rival this guy when my character is Diplomatic, always stepping in to save people....

I have to disagree with you, when I saw Sebastian pinning the notice to the board with an arrow I was like -.- just like I was during Zaeed's intro scene, the difference is that I came to realize Zaeed deserved that bad ass while Sebastian couldn't realize I was trying to troll him -.-.
Oh, and if he thinks a measly army can get past Hawke, he might have a word with the Qunari.

It would be nice if he took notice of the fact that my Hawke has a clear dislike of the chantry and has actively partaken in illegal activities to disrupt Templar operations without any concern in regards to killing them. not to mention the fact that my Hawke romanced a heathen.Monica21 wrote...

And it would be nice if every single Templar in the Gallows took notice of me trotting in with Anders, but sometimes we don't get what we want.primero holodon wrote...

I am now going through, without bothering about romance, to rival him and see how different he is. My only real disappointment first run through is that when I say he should think about what is best for the people of Starkhaven, he says he thinks it doesn't make much different who the ruler is, when clearly from his own family history it makes a big difference. Hopefully his story will be expanded later as I felt in some ways his character development was rushed and not explored properly.

Shale won me over when she threatened to squish Lady Isolde's head for... well, duh. Still wouldn't want her near my birds though.

Perhaps I liked him a lot because I always took Fenris along with him and their banter was very interesting. I did not agree with all that Sebastian said or thought but hey, I didn't like blood magic either but still liked Merril.
