If by awesome button you mean the over the top animations, opinions vary.

That is the very definition of 'awesome' attacks, if they're not 'over the top' they're not 'awesome'.

And yes, apparently opinions do vary... greatly.

I remember when The Twin Snakes came out for Gamecube, fans of the original Metal Gear Solid were complaining that Snake was riding on missile and stuff.  But that's what Snake does, they even added stuff like that into MGS3 and 4.

The complaining of the Omni-Blade reminds me of that.  And when people were complaining that the voice actor for Marcus Fenix was found out to be John DiMaggio, Bender from Futurama.

People will complain about anything.

One last thing: I miss the exploding bodies in DAII, they reduced the frequency too much.  Now I'm lucky to even see an exploding body, I've maybe seen 1 since they updated the game.

Oh! I get it! It's like mad libs!

The omni blade is in almost every demo and screen shot! That is all I ever see! All Bioware cares about is the omni blade!

Now check this out. You can replace omni blade with things like N7 armor, maddock rifle, grenades, Liara, Garrus, Cerberus troops, the Atlas mech, cover mechanics, salarian home world, Reapers, biotics, and plants and it will still work! It's ingenious!

Oh wait... I don't see a lot of hate threads about those.... Maybe you guys are just tackling one thing at a time?

I'd rather they harp on about the omni-blade now when we're still 6 months away than have them throw loads of new information now. They have to spread it out. Plus I don't want them to spoil too much of what the best feature of the game probably is; the story.

I can't look at the Omni-Blade without thinking of Psylocke from the X-Men.

But then again I can't look at the new femshep and not see a 15 year old girl, so I'm probably not the target demographic for this marketing campaign.

Seriously guys! Do you have to plaster that stupid thing everywhere and shove it down our throats all the time. Especially when half the fans things it's friggin' stupid in the first place. The way you've been beating it I'm surprised it hasn't spurted forth some link of omni-goo from the tip.

Seriously... give it a rest. It wasn't that cool from the start, and it's just becoming more and more tragically uncool the more it gets waved around. It just smells of trying too hard to be "badass and awesumz!!1" to the point where it's just not. At all.

I'd have considered getting the new Femshep T-shirt if it didn't have her with that retarded thing on it. <_<

You are right on, Terror K. It's corny and it is being shoved down our throats. I'm not even gonna use the Energy Sword.

This doesn't even feel like the Mass Effect IP anymore.

agreed.

and its good to know im not the only one with those kinds of thoughts rolling through my head.

Yes I think the omni-blade is absolutely retarded but it's Bioware's constant shoving it down my throat like it's the greatest feature ever that's more annoying.

It's almost as bad as Bethesda with their stupid obession with their Dragon Shouts.

Bethesda. I do not give a **** about your stupid Dragon Shouts. STFU about it and tell me about the Dark Brotherhood or something.

Oh, shut up already. I haven't heard you two say a single positive thing for months.

Both of these features have been created for specific reasons. For ME3, it's what BioWare decided to do to remedy the poor CQC which lead to staying in cover for too long. It's a new feature, and they have hardly shown it enough. We have seen a couple of demos with the soldier on it, and the heavy melee attack been used 3 times for the Adept, in a single demo, and only once for the Sentinel, in the same demo. And the Engineer using it once in the latest trailer. Using it is not just an option, it requires extra effort. You can still do traditional melee, and even chain melee attacks.

You don't like how it looks and you think that you represent the half of the fan base while you tend to align with the vocal and whiny minority. The omni-blade is one of the really big features of ME3 in combat, and blaming BioWare for showcasing it because it looks so ~COD and GoW-like~ is retarded.

Terror_K "fishing" threads were the rant-bomb were dropped in the OP, and Terror_K didn't return until the 5th or so page to post a single comment were tiring already.

no Phaedon, please YOU shut up.

Seriously, while you may not have seen Terror and GodWood say anything positive in months (I have)..I cannot recall you saying even one negative thing......EVER. Do you defend Bioware on principle or by some strange coincidence they nailed every single aspect and faced of the game EXACTLY the way you wanted it?

people have opinions, these forums are to express said opinions. If you dislike the overwhelming negativity and the back and forth arguing of some threads then express your opinion (if you must) and stick to the more positive threads rather than climbing on your BDF soap box and belittle those who disagree with you

Yeah. sooner or later these 'negative opinions' come off as blatant whining over things that in the grand scheme of things are minor such as an omiblade.  The omni blade is a new feature, apparently every class is going to have a melee version of some sort.  It's 100% natural and logical that they would stick it out in promo stuff.  People that bleat like goats about every second feature., marketing decision etc etc should simply give it a holiday the odd time.  Opinions on these forums negative and positive are one thing but people staritng blatant whine threads is another.

no one forces him to attempt to rectify the situation defending Bioware at every corner....and then complain that things are too negative

OMG!!!!111!!!! They are implementing a mechanic that should have been from the first ME in order to provide more options in combat rather than the chest high wall fest of the first two ME!!!!! IT IS THE END OF THE FRANCHISE AS WE KNOW IT (AND I FEEL FINE!!!!)

Go play Deus Ex: Human Resources to see how a fully functional melee system adds layers to the gameplay rather than "shoot, cover, shoot, cover, power, cover, shoot". Is the omni-blade over marketed? Propably yes but only as much as Adam Jensen's blades.

Is the original Deus Ex a Doom clone? It was a first person game after all. Is Deus Ex: Humourous Responses a GOW clone? It has cover based shooting, SWAT turns and a visceral melee system. A Metal Gear clone with its 3rd person sneaking?

aaaaaaaaaaaactually

I personally asked about Melee in ME1 during ME1 pre-release. I was responded to by one of the devs flat out telling me that Melee in ME was to take a position of secondary importance because the gameplay was about the use of Biotics/Tech and gunplay......and that was intentional

It's more distinctive than a military guy a with a gun. Marketing types are big on "iconic", and the Omni-blade is an easy way to identify a screenshot or piece of art as being from ME3.

The main problem is probably that some people check for news SO often that they expect to get new info every week rather than once every few months.

And we saw how that turned out to be lol. A brilliant story hampered by its lacklustre shooty elements, which were for better or worse one of the core parts of the game.

So why are you complaining about the omni-blade? It is a much needed development on the combat of the first two games that most of us acknowledge as necessary. I thought a person like you would be happy by the extra options presented to you considering OPTIONS IN AND OUT OF COMBAT ARE THE STAPLES OF ROLE PLAYING!!!!

To clarify I never believed the ME games to be a classic RPG but an action-RPG with the sequence of labels intentional.

That new MacShep wallpaper is Silent Hill meets Fullmetal Alchemist.

This isn't a compliment unfortunately.

I do not mind the existence of the Omniblade

Ultimately the Omni Blade is just a stronger melee attack which can double as stealth kill. Conceptually it adds nothing, it's not even an extra option since melee was already in ME1 and 2. The Omni Blade only made it flashier and more effective in terms of damage. But if you  think about it the Adept, for instance, achieves the same effect by simply using a open palm biotic attack.

I dislike the fact it is in almost every "new" bit of info including every single trailer opener and most of the wallpaper and now even on T-shirt. (also I suspect this is the reason why no one ever bothered to showcase the adept melee attack in depth....and why the vanguard's melee attack has not yet been showcased)
