Seriously guys! Do you have to plaster the hate everywhere and shove it down our throats all the time? Especially when some of us think its awesome. The way you've been attacking it i'm surprised it hasn't coughed up blood.
Seriously... give it a rest. It wasn't that bad from the start, and it's just becoming more and more tragically uncool the more it gets bashed for being something you don't like. It just smells of "oh look we so need another thread like this so I can feel better about hating on something so trivial"

Seriously... give it a rest. It wasn't that cool from the start, and it's just becoming more and more tragically uncool the more it gets waved around. It just smells of trying too hard to be "badass and awesumz!!1" to the point where it's just not. At all.
I'd have considered getting the new Femshep T-shirt if it didn't have her with that retarded thing on it. <_<
You are right on, Terror K. It's corny and it is being shoved down our throats. I'm not even gonna use the Energy Sword.
This doesn't even feel like the Mass Effect IP anymore.
Sympathy hates it  makes me love it even more.

Hate the omni-blade? Don't use it. Hate watching it in the marketing? Don't watch it.
Not exactly rocket science... unless you're under 12 and have nothing better to do.
Gosh... this reminds me of that stupid ****ing contest back when DX:HR reveal that it will have cinematic instant kills. Remember the amount of screaming then? I wonder what happened to them after the game was released

Edit: Oh yes, there is a difference between playing it and watching on youtube. So don't give me that "don't need to since I have seen it so many times" bull****. The melee isn't the same either for all classes so you can always play the Adept who's charged melee isn't the omni-blade.

The idea of a better attack is ok but warping the entire game to accomodate it is disappointing.
Yeah... lets bring a blade to a gun fight...
I will not be amused if range play suffers inorder to make the blade. Especially for classes like Infiltrators.
Yes because that one situation is the only time that ever happens.

Semi-off topic Not to mention that scene wasn't ever actually suppose to happen. During the film they recorded a much longer fight scene with that guy with sword until Harrison Ford got sick with it and just shot him. They decided to keep that scene in the end. Melee combat does happen in war situations still to this day just not the way most people think.Rockworm503 wrote...

Missed the point, idiot
Warping gameplay so this gimick works at the expense of the rest of the game is a classic case of developer stupidity.
Yay... lets make an Omni-toy for folks to go and stab people but screw ranged play to make it work. That totally makes sense in a gun game.
"Oh but... but it allows you to make Stealth Kills on Stealth Missions"
So would a silenced gun, they can build mini-nuke launchers, energy weapons and Thanix cannons but lost the ability to make silent guns ?
Starting off by calling him idiot... then assuming something about a game that isn't even out yet. Oh how I love these forums.

People are going to like it and not like it. I think it reeks cheesy, but I've been a little more open minded if it can be either sold and not in my possession or used for stealth gameplay in more open environments.
I think you're stunned by the backlash it is getting, from various people, especially on this thread.

Just keep this in mind, Terror. The stigma is that most gamers are immature, stupid little kids (or teenagers at the oldest) and think at we are absolutely obsessed with trinkets and the trivial things about the game. The latter is why they market things like the omni-blade, the Atlas mech, and better graphics so heavily above the story or things that actually can make or break a game to us intelligent folk.
And guess what? The latter is absolutely TRUE. I hear more people ****ing about crap like how the bumper on that car in GTA IV is only using a measely [enter pixel count] than the rest of the car uses [enter very slightly higher pixel count]. "They should be using the higher amount NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!1111". Yeah, f**k how emotionally engaging this scene or that scene should be or how flat the voice-actor was (while offering constructive criticism). We gotz 2 hav up 2 date gwafiks!!!
The same mind frame that runs behind those who refuse to play Final Fantasy VII (7) or VIII (8) because "the graphics suck". The story is great, their rebuttal to it is "Yeah, but the graphics are terrible". Yeah, you wouldn't be saying that 10+ years ago. It is even sadder when those people did play and love it the story and graphics when it was released, but reject it 10+ years later because Elder Scrolls has superior graphics.
almost 17 pages + of complaning about an optional feature in a game you just contributed to the ****fest.

If you are going to refer to every single heavy melee attack in ME3 as an "omni-blade", then you may as well refer to every single conventional melee weapon in Diablo as a "dagger". So yes, definitely. In fact, more.
The "omni-blade" is hardly advertised. Overall, we have seen more footage of weapon customization, stat. progression, the mobility and the new cover system, but they are more subtle.
Try to find videos with the omni-blade in them and see how few times it is being used, when it is a brand new feature. BioWare should in fact have made a video exclusively concerning the heavy melee attacks or the extra mobility options since they are new features.
They just make BSNers who think that they represent the majority in every single subject they discuss cry because they don't want anything awesome to happen when they push a button. They would much rather have a broken CQC system than a (zomg)...awesome scene.
The latest piece of artwork :
http://social.biowar...3/index/8212140
And what do we see? Oh yes, the hardly advertised omniblade.
Edit:
On the cover of the packaging.
http://upload.wikime...3a/ME3cover.jpg
On the main site, half the screen is taken by...shepard with omniblade.
http://masseffect.bioware.com/
On almost every video released today is the omniblade.
Almost every interview mentions the omniblade.
Yes, hardly advertised indeed.
Shepard is in all those things too... I'm kinda getting sick of Shepard to be honest... do they really need to shove him in our faces all the time?

Yes, because the omni-blade defines the whole game, and having it advertised will completely ruin the end experience. Because it's such a pivotal feature.
Actually, it is a problem, because they wasted time and resources implementing Halo's laser sword for no compelling reason except to implement Halo's laser sword. How often did you find yourself thinking in the first two games "Gee, this would be so much better if I had Halo's laser sword"?
None?
Because the frequency with which you actually end up in melee range is about once every hour?
Then rather than discuss the RPG elements, or the potential innovation they could implement by actually carrying over decisions made in the first two games creating the first game series that actually devlops an experience around what you did, they spend most of their time talking about...the Omni-blade.
As if this is what the gaming industry has been lacking, a copy of Halo's laser sword. Is it really too much to ask what ME3 brings to the table that makes it unique, instead of hearing about what they copied from a more successful series?
Mass Effect 3's budget... 500 dollars (just using a random number don't read too much into it).
Money spent on Omni-Blade... 499 dollars.
Watching butthurt babies cry about every little tiny thing about a game.... Priceless.
