Vista Hates On Toolset

Game Language: English
Retail or Digital: Retail DVD
Processor Manufacturer: Intel
Processor Type: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6400
Processor Speed: 2.0 GHz / 2.0 GHz
Operating System / Service Pack: Windows Vista
System RAM: 4 gigs
Video Card Model: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Sound Card Model: AMD High Definition Audio
Hard Drive Type: Hitachi
Free Disk Space: A ton
Problem: My problem is, as it was for others I see, that the toolset just
instantly crashes when I open it. The game plays, but the toolset dies
instantly. I bought this game FOR the toolset specifically. I'm not a tech guy. Please talk to me like I'm an idiot. I tried some of the simple solutions like going in the executable file's properties and putting on XP2 Compatibility and removing visual themes but this did nothing except give me a brief glimps of the toolset version (1.0.1541.0) before it crached.

I have all the windows updates that windows tells me should get, so i HOPE that means this .NET is up to date. What in the Nine Hells is it and how do I determine it's version?
My updater won't connect to the server. I think that's a separate issue, however; as I'm having connection issues on multiple fronts. So I didn't know the game had a higher version. Will a newer version resolve toolset issues? I'll update it post haste.

issue. I suspect it's my computer, but in case it's the game looking in
the wrong place or something... here's the error it gives.
Your game version is: 1.20.1541 English

Dx 9 & 11 are (seem to be) co-pacetic. My guess is that NwN2 will grab a dx9 file if it don't find the 11 version. One Thousand Talons Mao Ra wrote...

ya, Vista should have a version of .Net ( i'm using Xp, so I just keep .Net3.5 uptodate and it appears in AddRemovePrograms, might have a peek there ) I think its a scripting language for complicated dialog boxes, Lol
Re. updating NwN2
wouldn't be surprised if Kaldor's got yer Toolset fix there. If you can't sort out the connection issue I've heard that it's entirely possible to update the game offline - after downloading the patches. But i've never done it, so .. I think it needs a standalone app + patches ( see Google )

Luckily, different versions of DX can co-exist on the same computer in harmony.

I might just buy a new machine, because I want one. So, let's consider this thread dead until I can get everything put back together. You folks are mighty helpful, and I thank you. I'll be back! (Eventually.)
Looking forward to your upcoming "Windows 7 Hates On Toolset" post.

i had a similar problem. i noticed that the toolset crashed whenever i had a nwn2 file open like viewing a .2da in excel.
Were you updating (or had you updated) a file in current usage? Any 2da's, blueprints, or scripts, in Override, Campaign, or the current open module are drawn upon by the Toolset. If you make changes to those while they're in use, you're pullin the carpet out from under the TS; I'd be suprised if it didn't crash!
