I think it would be interesting in ME3, if your Shepard would be allowed to pray.  Now i only think this should be allowed if you are playing a Shepard that has been imported from ME1.  Also your shepard would have had to told Ashley that s/he believed in a God, when you discussed religion with her in ME1.

Bioware is already adding controversial things like same-sex romance, so why not add some religious stuff?

Make it optional for those who want it. Problem solved.

Yeah, but Shepard doesn't -- AH AH AH! PROBLEM. SOLVED.

Yeah, but I don't want that in my -- PROBLEM.  SOLVED.

We had a thread on "religion" a couple of weeks ago and it ended badly. Just telling you, OP, this will get locked because of the fisticuffs.

I'm a Christian. I find s/s offensive. And, yet, I really don't mind if they do it in the game (as long as they don't retcon sexuality, but that's a dif topic), because I don't HAVE to do it.

So, in the .00000000001% chance they did it, you wouldn't HAVE to.

Yeah, sure. That would be cool.

... Which religion should the prayer belong to.

Therein lies the real problem. There are more major religions than branches on the dialogue tree.

I have no problem with it. Will Bioware do it, probably not, but I think it's an interesting idea. As was mentioned above, there's already a lead into it it after the conversation with Ash on the Normandy. I do have to wonder though, how would being brought back from the dead affect that faith.

I can't speak from personal experience, of course, but I feel like an event as cataclismic as a resurection; and this wasn't dying on the table in a hospital and being brought back after seconds or minutes, this was two years away,  would change a person on a fundamental level. It always bothered me a little that Shepard had absolutely no qualms about being back from the dead. I always felt that there should have been an inner struggle there that would have played out nicely as a subplot.

So I  think that spirituality, or even lack of, is something that should have been explored in ME2, and continue into ME3. I think that, at least having the option, would be a nice thing for truly playing the role. There are all kinds of things that would be nice to have, and obviously it would be impossible for Bioware to cater to every taste and every desire out there for customizing Shepard, but having something aknowledging where the character is on a spiritual level would be nice.

More dialogue options = better.

We should also get a line where Atheist Shepard says "O MAGIC MAN IN THE SKY PLEASE STRIKE DOWN THE SPACE CTULHUS. lol jk let's kick some ass."

We don't see Shep going to the bathroom to have a bowel movement or pee either... they should include that too.

And eating dinner... doing laundry... scrubbing their blood out of their armor between missions.

Riveting stuff.

EDIT: Ah you meant religious-based dialogue.. not actually kneeling down to pray in game, hehe. Meh, whatever, doesn't interest me but I wouldn't care if it was there so long as there was an option not to choose those dialogue options.

I don't see why not.

It would be best to keep the god Shepard is praying to ambiguous though, I think.

This. I'm not a fan of SS romance, but it's in game. So why not expand upon the religion from ME1? We can have SS romances, a very controversial topic, in ME, but not religion? That wouldn't be fair now would it?

It should be free election of the player. I'm agnostic, and my shepard won´t be a religious man.

This is one religion topic that should NOT devolve into bickering and nonsense. This is a question of what subject matter should be in ME3.

Religion should not be inherently controversial. It was brought up at times in the previous two games anyway - and, despite the fact that I am not a very religious person, I actually PRAY that the type of philosophical and spiritual matters, the questions you'd ask yourself when facing absolute annihilation by a power far beyond you...I pray the writers cover some aspect of those ideas. The meaning of existence, stuff like that.

Business isn't about fairness. If you want something you have to put up a demand for it. The "There's X, so why can't there be Y?" argument is weak when it comes to asking for specific content.

Regardless of my personal feelings on the matter, I don't see how it could be implemented. Including that as a dialogue choice would be difficult to do without feeling shoehorned in. It's a nice idea in theory, but in practice, I don't see it really being an option.

Well to be fair the other thread only got locked when the arguing reached stagnation point and people kept adding to it. If we don't do that here, we may have a chance.

The deity would be extremely difficult. I suppose you could just put "God," but some like Buddhists either believe they are "God" (Atman is Brahman, it's complicated to explain) or that there are many gods, and why would you just pray to one? "God" would work for both Christianity and Islam...but for Christianity there are the denominations that believe there are three Gods, not just one...

So it's really quite a difficult thing to put into practice.
