Praying in ME3?

Frankly I'd rather ME3 not touch on any religion at all because if they do include it then it will only offend people.....I mean who should Shep pray to? God? Buddha? Allah? Jesus? Some saint? And what prayer should he use so that all factions of that specific religion can accept it....I mean there are hundreds of different christian groups as there are Catholic and same applies to the other religions. All these then conflict over what their major figures said or didn't say, how they said it, when they said it and what they really meant. And on and on and on.

What BioWare would have on their hands would be an enormous bill, wasted time and a development nightmare. So no.....no religion. Plus I would be upset if there is any hint of religiosity in this game.

Hopefully if you pray hard enough throughout the game, the Lord God Almighty will return to righteously crush the Reaper fleet and bring eternal peace to the galaxy. And if you don't pray hard enough, the Reapers win.

No.

If you'd like to imagine Shepard praying, imagine him/her doing it off-screen.

Love the idea, but wouldn't get too pumped about it. The only place I could see it make sense is Shep praying with Ash before the final fight. Would work better if the Shep is romancing her too.

He was trolling, modest trolling. No worries.

As one of the more "religious" people on this thread I'm going to nod and smile, hopefully encouraging others to do the same and keep this thread on track.

Really though, people who don't pray shouldn't be allowed to win.

To keep what OP had in mind going. I do so hate to see a locked thread; such wasted potential for intelligent discussion.

Well, except for this, maybe.

And somehow - what I wrote in my "Poll" comes to mind: ;)

It has been said that,"There is no atheist in a foxhole..." I've been thinking recently.Wouldn't it be cool -- Wouldn't it be a truly unforgettable moment in Gaming History. If in Mass Effect 3, Commander Shepard has a 'Talking (or Shouting or Crying out) to God moment!?! Self-reliance is a virtue. And we all have our pride. But even Jake Sully
in James Cameron's Avatar: Had a moment where he had done all that he could do and asked Eywa: ( The guiding force and deity of Pandora and the Navi) for whatever help that it could provide.I don't know about
you.But I was really moved by a certain moment of the Reaper Invasion of Earth footage that we got to see.In the ME 3 Demo.

Anderson: God.How do you stop something so powerful?!

Shepard: I don't know?!

After hearing the both of these accomplished, strong, highly competent men.Speak so honestly to one another.Saying things that they would never want their subordinates to hear.Lest they lose morale. The vulnerability, that Admiral David Anderson and Commander John Shepard show here.Is a real 'tearjerker' moment. If you really think about it, for a minute..BioWare has said that defeating the Reapers will seem hopeless and resistance futile; for a good percentage of the story.(I'm paraphrasing)

On account of this I could so see Shepard have a moment, either in his cabin on the Normandy or at a religious site or graveyard;say something like this: (This will be optional of course.I don't believe that BioWare should force every player to play this scene, if they don't want too.But I do believe that the option should be there.)

Shepard:"Ha... You know -- My mother always told me that,"God will never put more on your shoulders than you can bare." I have come so far.I have cheated death.I have talked to the point of almost losing my voice.Trying to convince people of the Reaper Invasion.Mostly to no avail... I'm not asking or expecting Angels to descend from the 3rd heaven to save us... But I need something. Some sign. Some - hope.Some.....................

............ INSPIRATION -- A Big Idea or a Point in the right direction.Something.... Just.... Something -- Sigh..."

It'd be a waste of time, resources and developers and they will get flamed a lot worse if they try to approach religion than if they don't. I'd rather they have more quests or have more endings or take the time to give more meaning to more of the imported choices.

Wouldn't work so well for a few Eastern Religions.

That's the problem. Religion is so diverse that it would be extremely difficult to implement.

Religion has its time and place but those times and those places are not in a videogame played around the world by multiple beliefs and backgrounds.

If you feel the need to pray while playing Mass Effect I suggest you put down your controller and do it yourself.

There is no particular benefit to the game for adding something like this and in all probability it would cause massive issues for anybody playing it. I am some what amazed at how they touched on religion in Mass Effect already, but more or less left it as: religion exists in Mass Effect.... end of line.

I dont have a problem with people believing in a higher power. I do have a problem when they mainstream media it and cram it down my throat. If I want to believe, I will believe. If I dont then I wont. Having this in the game tells me that they would promote a single belief of religion just like any of those people walking door to door giving out unwanted advice and flyers (man those people are annoying, plus they damn me to "hell" whenever they see me). Again that just doesnt fly with me.

@EternalAmbiguity: Actually it doesn't have to be that difficult at all... All BioWare would have to do is have the conversation wheel offer a:

-Judeo-Christian Response

- Muslim Response

- Hindu and or Buddist response as well...

So what Shepard says will adress the proper diety and mythos. :innocent:

I have no problem with praying in a video game, in fact I'd be happy if Bioware and Bethesda actually gave us the option to play a character who practices religion. Another role playing choice, and it would make my atheist characters' religious decisions seem more meaningful.

Anything and everything even slightly related to religion, including but not limited to the word "religion" itself is offensive to plenty of people.....this is one of those issues that are best left completely untouched.
