That a very general statement about atheists.  Most don't like to be preached at.  I know I don't.  I don't like being told by a relgious person I'm going to burn in hell for being who I am and I don''t believe in that nonsense.

I don't care what other believe.  All I ask is leave me out of it and stop preaching to me.  I don't want to hear it.

Look through this entire thread. Look at all the posts by atheists who weren't dragged here by anyone, who posted quite rude and insulting comments.

No saying all atheists are bad. The Quarian (ZenTR or something) on here seemed quite reasonable.

Oh enough of that moderate nonsense. It is your responsibility to be an extremenist so that I can more easily profile you.

Okay.

Twilight Sparkle or GTFO!!!

Did that work? I don't have much experinece with extremism.

Well, you've got a lot to learn, but that is a good start.;) Although I never really saw the Pony fans as extreminists. Maybe just a a tad weird.

It's a sad fact that people here cannot discuss religion reasonably and calmly.

Not entirely, Catholics can believe in science.

Not without some serious mental dissonance.

A lot of scientific discoveries were made by Catholics. At my university church we are told that religion and science should agree, they are two shows, two different ways of seeing the same thing, they only come into conflict when one is bad. Such as bad science, way to much to list, but people evolved from apes, note the CC endorses evolution, or bad religion, bible bashers claiming that evolution is false and the devils work.

As a faerie, I take offense, sir.

But seriously folks. This is turning into a debate about what people should actually believe. And I hardly think thats the purpose of this thread.

In a nutshell: I don't give a damn what anyone here believes in personally. This is supposed to be about if SHEPARD is allowed to believe in a higher power. Regardless what either side thinks of the other, both exists. Deal with it.

Vampires and fairies don't fit in to what we know about the world.

A deity on the other hand is an explanation for the causation of the Big Bang. It fits in with what science does know about the universe. That doesn't mean there is a deity, nor am i even arguing that there is a deity.

EDIT: But yes, this off-topic. This thread is about religion in Mass Effect 3.

By merit of the ingeniousness and detail in the letter by Bobby Henderson, the invisible flying spaghetti monster is more plausible than the Abrahamic God.

I respect that, and to be honest even as a religious I dont like being preached at any more than you do probably.

However, also as a religious, it gets rather annoying that expressing any belief in a higher power often gets you lumped in as an idiot, close minded thinker, or a bigot. Not saying you do it at all, but it happens enough to the point where a negative response triggers.

Yes. As a member of a religious minority I initially expected to receive a certain amount of angst from Christians when I revealing my religion, interestingly I've only really received that kind of treatment from atheists. I've never understood what it is about not eating lunch during Ramadan that makes some people think I have to justify my beliefs to them.

Concerning the thread's topic: I don't see any pressing need for prayer in the game, religion hasn't been a major theme in the series so it would feel odd if it became important at the end of the series. As nice as it might be to have a well fleshed out representative of a real-world religion (presumably Ashley would count despite her faith being thus far unnamed) I'd hate it if a religion somehow came to substitute for their personality as if they were included in the game to meet some unspecified quota of character diversity.

Every person is responsible for themselves and their own actions. In the same way I am approached by Mormons at my door attempting to convince me I should give my life to Jesus and 10% of my income to their church, I approach you all here to ask you stop ignoring history and the mountains of fossil and geological evidence that scream "there is likely no God, and if there is, he has not visited in billions of years."

I have a no solicitation on my front door.  Anytime anyone knocks on it and is trying to sell me something or some church goer comes to preach at me, I point to the sign and ask, "Can you read?" then I shut the door in their face.  If they don't understand what NO SOLICIATION means then that is on them.

Why did you quote me after I deleted my post? And the point I was making is that Religion, more often than not does contradict what we know about the universe.

It is possible to be rational and courteous at the same time. This is a combination of qualities I saw from nary but a few of the irreligious posters in this thread. Most would have rather talked down, call religion, then theistic beliefs, 'insanity', insist that entire demographics of people are unthinking slaves despite the logical fallacy of rote generalization, state dogmatically that Catholics cannot also hold science in high regard because it is somehow diametrically opposed, call all religion without exception good for nothing but the propagation of violence and strife—and this isn't even including childish slights like referring to the Almighty as an 'invisible boogeyman' unprovoked.

What I find most offensive is the disregard for facts and the stubborn adherence to misconceptions and prejudices by an outspoken group of people that insist that they are guided solely by the tenets of science and logic. Instead, a quick Googling would reveal that the Catholic Church is the single largest charity in the world.

Digging water wells and teaching children in Africa how to read. Those damn, dirty Christians.

That would be because there is, quite literally, no reason for theistic religion to exist at all. No quantifiable evidence, no palpable proof of God beyond that it cannot be proven it does not exist by it's very nature.
