It's interesting to look at how much the collective ideology of developers determines what options are made available in-game. Even though this is a role-playing experience, we still have moral and ethical perspectives enforcing limits on what we can and can't do, particularly in the more socially oriented issues. Even though the impact of author values are significantly diminished, they still exist to some extent.

So from what I gathered from Ash in ME1 is that as long as you keep it to yourself then all is good in the hood so to speak. You even clinked glasses and had a moment to remember her grandpa. Leave it at moments. A full on prayer would probably cause some people here to have a hernia. Otherwise for those that insist on having it just do a [Pray] option on the scroll wheel have Shep kneel til you hit space or X or whatever the action button is for xbox. It's neutral and you can rp out the full prayer in your head and be a happy little camper.

What better way to not pick it then to have it not be there at all!?!?

It wouldn't be picking anything. It'd be ignoring an aspect of of mass effect that has been quite prevalent in the previous two games.

So, the overall message of this thread is..

Spirituality in ME3 can be very well done or can simply ****** off everyone.

I think the overall message of this forum is that no matter what Bioware will ****** someone off.

I say if they do have a prayer it should be, " Yay, as I walk through the valley of the shadow death I shall fear no evil, because im the baddest mother %^&%$% in the god damn valley " lol. I can be a be an atheist but I do have to point out that some biblical verses are pretty poetic. ;)

Dont pick the pray option and net renegade points for doing so
Or
miss dialogue because the only other option is "I should go",
Or
you have to pray with Ashley to get in her pants.
Or
You have to make up multiple choices and do the Voice Actor work for them vs using that time and energy for less sensitive subjects

Or

Just dont include the option - Tada problem solved.
End of Topic.

Next Topic:
Should Shepard engage in foreplay or go straight to it ?

It will be in there, there's likely to be someone preaching the end is upon us like the batarian and the hanar previously have. Ash is likely to mention it, as is Thane and Mordin.

Whether Shepard will profess faith is another matter. I think so long as It's short ambiguous and optional I don't see a problem. The option for Shepard to express his skepticism should also be there as it was in ME1.

Vampires and fairies don't fit in to what we know about the world.

A deity on the other hand is an explanation for the causation of the Big Bang. It fits in with what science does know about the universe. That doesn't mean there is a deity, nor am i even arguing that there is a deity.

Why did you quote me after I deleted my post? And the point I was making is that Religion, more often than not does contradict what we know about the universe.

How so?

....lol? Do I have to give you an elementary scool science lecture? Are you an idiot?
...or trolling. I see what you did there!

You made a very vague and expansive statement that can be interpreted in multiple ways.

Ignore him. Arguing with him's not gonna help your cause.

Thats right. Listen to the troll.

It is simple why does there have to be a speech? Just have a silent prayer moment or two. If someone important dies or Shepard in privacy. It could be like the kneel and pray emote in NWN. It would also be completely optional so no one should gripe.

I have been thinking about how Shep would feel...being bought back from the dead, surrounded by Cerberus, etc.... It's gotta really mess with his head to be honest....Anyway, have solved it partly at least in my own way in ME2....due to some playing around with dialog, alignment, etc..I am just now beginning my canon game....The first thing I had Shep do as soon as he got control of the Normandy was visit the Normandy1 crash site...I felt that was a good spiritual, connecting with himself again moment.

This x 100. Seriously people, is this issue really that complex?

I would very much like to see some philosophical dialog in regards to Sheps feeling about his death and the Reapers....would love to see his feelings, reactions explored somehow.

Now this is what I like to see from a thread.  Even an ambiguous moment of silence would be quite effective in setting the emotional tone of the scene.  After all, it's up to the player to determine what thoughts are going on in Shepard's head.

I am surprised and glad that this topic could generate a civil discussion.  Honestly I expected it to be locked ages ago.  Proved me wrong.

Some find it offensive, most just don't follow a religion and let other people get on with their lives.

As long as it's optional I don't have a problem with Shep praying personally, but the question of who he prays to and how he prays could alienate a lot of players who don't subscribe to that particular religion. Unless they add in some kind of faith specific DLC "Firepower back with added Bhuddism" etc.

It's different to sex, we all do it (bar some exceptions) the subject of religion has too many pitfalls where player characters are concerned and will in all likelyhood not be touched.

I believe in God, but even if I didn't I'm pretty sure I'd start praying to something if I saw a fleet of Reapers coming down outside my window . Honestly though, I can understand why some people would have a problem with it, but I think it would be just fine and a nice inclusion as long as it's optional.

By the Goddess...religion is already in Mass Effect.

I think BioWare have done a good job of recognising diversity. Mass Effect is about Galactic civilisation - not just humanity.

Now do I need to say something offensive to get this thread locked, or what?

Can we keep this topic on track?

I don't want to see this thread get locked, since there are many interesting ideas on how praying should be implanted, and i don't want trolls ruining intelligent conversations between civilized people.

No one is disputiing that though, it's obvious religion is directly and indirectly in Mass Effect.

Liara saying that is probably the equivalent of a human saying "oh my God." We have no other evidence that she's religious at all, but that probably does suggest some form of religion in Asari culture.

I have yo be brief, I'm posting from a PS3 Browser which I'm not so fond of doing. Anyhoo... I notice that alot of people here are still saying things like,"If Shepard does get religion in ME3 than it should be handled like this or that, or how it was done in previous games...

I have some issues with that... I commend BioWare for what they have done up to this point, concerning religion and spirituality in the Mass Effect Universe. But so far- all we have had is Shepard and NPC's (Ashley, Mordin and Thane) "Talking" about God.It's about time someone talks to God!

I DO NOT just want BW to throw spirtually minded players crums from the table by having either (as someone suggested) James Vega walks by and ask Shep what he's up too? Or a lousy silent prayer or just a moment of silence for the fallen. What I want.Is a scene as well written and topical as we got from the LOTSB DLC.On Sheps date with Liara when I chose the "I'm frustrated " option and Shepard threw his hands in the air, emoted and was allowed to vent and say pretty much what I would have said if I were in his shoes.Being able to relate and identify with the main protagonist like that was an AWESOME Gaming Expeirence.

I believe the same could be said in a well WRITTEN scene of Shepard by himself (not in a group prayer- like some damn Boy Band group before going on stage -"Not that there's nothing wrong with that.") praying to God. Akin to Conan praying to Crum. And or like what I wrote in my 'Poll' Shepard prays to God in Mass Effect 3!?!

The only real religion in Mass Effect is Shepardism, to which all the crew must pray
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the derelict Reaper filled with Husks and Scions, I will fear no evil: for thou art the squad leader; thy Revenant and thy Widow they cover me.

I was thinking about joining that group too..
