It doesn't take an atheist to look at all the misery in the world wrought in the name of religion to recognize it as such. You're assuming.

Meh, Shepard doesn't need God on his side, he's Shepard.
Pft, he doesn't need God - he is God.
And he doesn't pray - he simply does.
That's what the religions in game should be all about - Shepard worship. All of the other characters would be praying to Shepard - and after he defeats the Reapers with his righteous might, he rules the galaxy in peace until the next cycle (which will be the setting of ME4, no doubt).
*I'll start working on Imperial stock phrases*
"Suffer not the Volus to live"......hmmm.

"Proper" religious prayer; others have already stated why this is a bad thing. To whom would Shepard pray? .. it's a can of worms that should be left shut and preferably lobbed out the nearest airlock at the first opportunity.
If you can't cater to all religions, you shouldn't cater to any.
Though if my Shep is able to sacrifice a chicken before the final battle™ I'll be cool with that.

I am sooooo sick of this attitude. EVERY major advancement before the 20thc or maybe some of the stuff from the 19th, was created as a direct result of religion. So you can complain about a few wars, which humans will always start for any reason they can think of, or miss information about the Spanish inquisition, which created the idea of the burden of proof on the prosecution rather then the accused, OR you can accept that things are not as you assume and move on.
I think it should be an option if people want to, like s/s romance there if you want it but you don't have too. I mean how stupid is that you can have s/s romance and people say 'great' and if they complain then they are '****** phobic' but if you want YOUR character to say a pray then 'oh nooss religion' keep it away'

So are political ideas, color and heritage.
I agree with what others have said, however. It's rather impossible to handle a scene where Shepard is praying.

It's a bit funny to see both groups throw insults to each other, when they are essentially different sides of the same coin. All beliefs are valid of course, but screaming and yelling, "No, I KNOW that a deity exists!" or "No, I KNOW that a deity DOESN'T exist!" to each other seems rather ridiculous to me.Hathur wrote...

Therein lies the real problem. There are more major religions than branches on the dialogue tree.

It's too bad that people have to treat everything in life like it's such serious business. Because you could have a lot of fun with the "controversial" options if people would stop going "HOW DAAAAARE YOU!" or "RUINED FOREVER!!!!"Ghost Warrior wrote...

And somehow - what I wrote in my "Poll" comes to mind:
It has been said that,"There is no atheist in a foxhole..." I've been thinking recently.Wouldn't it be cool -- Wouldn't it be a truly unforgettable moment in Gaming History. If in Mass Effect 3, Commander Shepard has a 'Talking (or Shouting or Crying out) to God moment!?! Self-reliance is a virtue. And we all have our pride. But even Jake Sully
in James Cameron's Avatar: Had a moment where he had done all that he could do and asked Eywa: ( The guiding force and deity of Pandora and the Navi) for whatever help that it could provide.I don't know about
you.But I was really moved by a certain moment of the Reaper Invasion of Earth footage that we got to see.In the ME 3 Demo.
Anderson: God.How do you stop something so powerful?!
Shepard: I don't know?!
After hearing the both of these accomplished, strong, highly competent men.Speak so honestly to one another.Saying things that they would never want their subordinates to hear.Lest they lose morale. The vulnerability, that Admiral David Anderson and Commander John Shepard show here.Is a real 'tearjerker' moment. If you really think about it, for a minute..BioWare has said that defeating the Reapers will seem hopeless and resistance futile; for a good percentage of the story.(I'm paraphrasing)
On account of this I could so see Shepard have a moment, either in his cabin on the Normandy or at a religious site or graveyard;say something like this: (This will be optional of course.I don't believe that BioWare should force every player to play this scene, if they don't want too.But I do believe that the option should be there.)
Shepard:"Ha... You know -- My mother always told me that,"God will never put more on your shoulders than you can bare." I have come so far.I have cheated death.I have talked to the point of almost losing my voice.Trying to convince people of the Reaper Invasion.Mostly to no avail... I'm not asking or expecting Angels to descend from the 3rd heaven to save us... But I need something. Some sign. Some - hope.Some.....................
............ INSPIRATION -- A Big Idea or a Point in the right direction.Something.... Just.... Something -- Sigh..."
Post Script: This is the Paragon Version of the Monologue or Dialogue that Shepard has with God.
Now this would be awesome

As long as you include every religion known to humankind, it could work. Otherwise, I'd jsut assume this is an image of Shep taking care of personal bathroom business while contemplating the rest of the crap the unverse has laid at his feet.
