But honestly, the trailer looked like it could have been for mass effect 2. =/ they only displayed 3 in-combat moves and one enemy that wasn't in ME2 (the robot, I didn't count the armored humanoids because those are always pretty much the same when it comes to killing). And the E3 trailer already showed us all that in action except the grenade as far as I can remember (which mass effect 1 showed us). So it really seems like it was a bit of a waste...

Yeah, heard this reasoning before.

Considering its a tralier of product that is about 4-5 months from release it wasn't going to be perfect expect it to be fix when people start playing the game itself
Considering its a tralier of product that is about 2-3 months from release it wasn't going to be perfect expect it to be fix when people start playing the game itself
etc. etc.

The only thing that really jumps out at me as clunky is the roll animation.
Yeah I noticed that one too. I noticed a lot of things that kinda ruined the trailer for me. D:

The animations were horrible. And the camera-work? I bet my 80-year old grandma could do better than that.
I still don´t believe BioWare did it.

I agree. The animations seem clunky and unnatural. In fact, I thought that maybe the squad banter was a little too much.VeR0se wrote...
@PLC Hopefully, the game looks great, the animations are just wonky, maybe they just rushed that level because PAX was coming up and they needed to get something on the show floor.Hathur wrote...
I'm a little confused as to what you found clunky or glitchy? I've seen the trailer many times (and just rewatched it 2 times again to look for your complaints) but I don't see anything that looks wrong.
The only glitch I noticed was the one that has always existed since ME1.. the stock on Garrus' avenger severely clips through his armor (always has, in both games).
Other than that, it looked fine.
Can you specifically point out exact scenes (time references) where something looked wrong? Perhaps I just have poor eyes.
Look at Liara walking in the first 28 seconds of the trailer, than look at how shepard is holding the gun comparing it to Mass Effect 2 it doesn't sit right. His storm looks off too. Also when the cerberus "jetpacker" jumps down his legs freeze for half a second before he lands. Then when garrus is pan firing across the area his body jerks before he completes the panning movement. Also when the rocket from the heavy mech hits liara she dissapears from the frame.

Yeah I didn't like all the talking, Shepard doesn't need to talk, CHANGE THIS WEAPON, oh do this do that. You're already telling em what to do using the controller.

I say don't release something if it isn't going to look great. I love this series but that trailer just made me sad. D:

I'm also still waiting to see a combat level that is even as open looking as Haestrom was (let alone these new open levels we've heard about) - but it's been all corridors so far. The combat is also kinda bland thus far, at least to my tatstes. I don't mind the rolling and the omni blade but they seem more gimmicky to me than an overall deep and rich combat improvement.
I hope there are much better things to come combat wise - it all seems very average so far to me - like it's an ME2 expansion DLC - my impressions anyway, although YMMV.

The omni-blade is more of a gimmick than actual improvement, but it is a good looking one. But yes, I don't really see much of an improvement in combat. You may flank your enemies in ME3, but you could do that in ME2 as well. I did it in my playthroughs, say on Haestorm and the suicide mission.davidshooter wrote...
I'm not buying "the game is still months away" excuse. This was an official trailer, premiered at a major event. Trailers of this kind generally portray the gameplay in the best possible light - often better than it actually is in the game as the trailer footage usually recieves special attention above and beyond the game's polish. OP is right, a lot of clunky animations in that 2 minutes and that is worrisome.

Because Duke Nukem Forever was not proof enough that characters that try too hard at being cool end up... well... not cool at all.
"GARRUS! HIDE BEHIND THE BOXES!"
"OKAY SHEPARD! I'M HIDING BEHIND THOSE BOXES NOW!"
"WHEN I TELL YOU TO SHOOT AT THEM YOU WILL SHOOT AT THEM LIARA!"
"OKAY SHEPARD! I'M ON IT NOW!"
I seen that somewhere...

The ME2 trailers were more polished but they didn't mix real combat with cinematics, like this one did. I don't know what's going on with the marketing team over at BioWare but I have confidence that it's not going to spill over into horrible game design.
C'mon people, whether you like BioWare's previous work or not, I think we can all agree they don't have a history of releasing games that look horribly unfinished.

After all the complaining about Femshep's manliness of motion, all the women now have the "lady sway" animation.
