I'm not buying "the game is still months away" excuse. This was an official trailer, premiered at a major event. Trailers of this kind generally portray the gameplay in the best possible light - often better than it actually is in the game as the trailer footage usually recieves special attention above and beyond the game's polish. OP is right, a lot of clunky animations in that 2 minutes and that is worrisome.
I'm also still waiting to see a combat level that is even as open looking as Haestrom was (let alone these new open levels we've heard about) - but it's been all corridors so far. The combat is also kinda bland thus far, at least to my tatstes. I don't mind the rolling and the omni blade but they seem more gimmicky to me than an overall deep and rich combat improvement.
I hope there are much better things to come combat wise - it all seems very average so far to me - like it's an ME2 expansion DLC - my impressions anyway, although YMMV.
Wtf is up with this trailer

If that's what you see, fair enough, but the Liara running animation (as just one example) at 24 seconds looks really clunky to my eye even leaving out the fact that she might have been edited from another scene and as a result is sliding diagonally against the ground while running forward.

I don't think that video is that representative... looks like an old build, and I'm not really sure about some of the stuff in there, for example henchmen don't talk that much.
Some of those cuts look like they're from a cutscene from a different area of the game.
Then why the .... did you guys release it in the first place? It makes you look really bad. We all know ME is way better than this, so we can't help but wonder. Has your marketing department gone rogue?
I really appreciate you guys releasing such clips, but with all due respect: This video just doesn't represent you guys very well.

Why not release it? All it is is a flashy action sequence to get people pumped up about it. it's only because people sit here and rip every little thing apart for days that most of these issues are noticed. This thread alone is an example of that with as many posts there are in it of "I went back and analyzed the video after you said that" basically.
And at a glance it does what it was meant to. There's no need to make it perfect. Me personally. I'd rather see them not bother with most of the game play trailers. just give us a little cinematic to stare at for a year and spend all their time working on the actual game.
Doing this stuff even to that level is awfully time consuming let alone making it perfect. I don't want perfect looking trailers to an unfinished looking game. I already have that worry with Skryim because Bethesda has a long history of unfinished looking games. I sit there and look at the videos for that and one half of me thinks "Oh yes. Bethesda is finally putting out a game that looks like it was made in at least 2010." And the other side of me is sitting there going "oh god oh god. Is this one gonna suck and look like I played it back when I was playing neverwinter nights like the last 3!"
I'd rather crappy imperfect trailers to an awesome game.

You know how Sovereign had its own "sound" at the end of the trailers?...well....the Reapers in general need one, too.

The thing is, they are probably not making these animations from scratch. They are probably using (although editing) models and animations from Mass Effect 1 and 2. The fact that the animations (Liara's running animation in particular) look a lot worse than Mass Effect 2's is a very bad sign. Surely they could have just copied her animations from LotSB?

Looks shoddy either way.

First off, it's not the devs that are creating the trailers. That's usually freelancers or in-house marketing people. Either way, we agree. That's actually my point: Stop creating inferior trailers and focus on making Mass Effect 3 as awesome, as we all know it's going to be. :-)

I don't buy all of this "It's 7 months away" stuff, to be honest. People said the same thing about DA2, with slightly off animations, and ridiculously low-res background NPC's, and it was exactly the same 7 months later when the game was released.

People are STILL using DA2 as a way to crush Bioware? IT WAS ONE DAMN GAME DAMNIT.
