Or can you use a memory stick? I get a message that I need a hard drive when I insert the second disk, and I am wondering whether a 16GB memory stick will do the trick.

More seriously, size-wise there shouldn't be any problem as 16GB will accommodate the installation. Thing is...I seem to recall that it might not install to a USB stick. Will need someone else to confirm that though.
