You're right.. But the fun still there..
This is one of those games that you can play too many times and still will be fun. There are too many path to follow. And the first impresion after you played the first time is what gave you the emotion and "need" to play again..

It's starting to get like that for me.AClockworkMelon wrote...
I haven't played them nearly as much as the rest of the people on the forum it would seem. I've played ME1 four times and ME2 three times so far. I can't play two or more playthroughs back-to-back. I need a little bit of a cooling off period (usually a couple of months) before playing again so that it still seems somewhat fresh when I go through it, otherwise I find myself skipping through dialog, etc.
I've done 2 playthroughs of Mass Effect 1 and 3 of Mass Effect 2 without playing any other games.
It's starting to get a tad....
Boring.
Well, the second game anyways. The first is always fun.

That's what I think too. A lot of games, especially RPGs fall a bit flat after the first run through. You've played out the story, so all there is left to do is try a different build or whatever.Darkphalanax wrote...

For some reason that doesn't happen to Mass Effect. Even though I can't play through the game several times in a row, each time I play it feels like a slightly different story. It's not just different ways to complete the same objective.

Cat, I'm going to catch up to you. My friend got me both games for PC last year for a Steam Christmas sale (though I had Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 on the X-Box around them time the games were released, and beat ME twice on the X-Box and ME once). Even though it was my favourite and still is, I didn't start playing again right away because of school and the fact that I was in the middle of DAO. Once I started, however, I love it. Especially since I don't do completionist playthroughs each time (I love everything about ME, except the Mako. Using the Mako on the PC is 10x better than the X-Box, and it still blows), and pretty much only focus on ME2 flagged missions.
Long story short...I shall defeat you!

You're telling me in the 22 playthroughs, you did EVERY single side mission and collected every single medal, matriarch writing, and resource?

Do not skip conversations!
That's how I roll...
Each run is therefore 20-30 hours long. Guaranteed.
Don't ask how I keep my sanity, because I literally don't have any. :3

I...don't know why I would do that. I can understand doing every mission, but every survey? That's just too much for me.

I love thermal clips because it makes me use powers more. I found the game more immersive and alive than the first game, and I love the first game. Zero consequences? Plotholes? Retcons? I don't think we played the same game. You must have played some horrible version of Mass Effect 2 from some different, parallel reality.

cool, i loved modable overheating weapons, riding on elevators, and entering the decontamination room on the normandy. you liked ammo, mission complete screens and planet scanning. to each their own.
what consequences did you see that transpired from ME1 to ME2, that didnt involve an email? i think your unaware of the retcons or plotholes, or you just choose not to recognize them. ever hear of smudboy? some of the things he says arent exactly wrong.
but i do agree, i did play some horrible version of the so called "Mass Effect 2". there shoulda been a version thats much much better, it just wasnt made. i really dont mean to rip on ME2 so much, but its too easy to do.

Who you decided to romance.
Your decisions on Virmire.
Your decisions at the end of the game.
Granted, I haven't actually played through Mass Effect 2 with an imported file, but I did research to make sure I wasn't making a choice that I would regret later.
I have played through the second game though, just a new Shepard. When I do import my ME1 Shepard, the game is going to change drastically.

Elevators were taken out for their widespread hatred. Though, I wouldn't have minded it if the elevator rides weren't too damn long. I wasn't happy with Mass Effect 2's lack of customisation, but it didn't break the game for me. The "Mission Complete" screens were strange, but they were trying something new.
As for consequences? Here's a list of non-emails:
Your first choice of what happened on Virmire.
The second choice of what happened on Virmire.
Did you fully assist Captain Kirrahe’s team on Virmire?
What did you choose to do at the end of the game?
Who did you romance?
What did you do with Fist?
What did you do with Helena Blake?
Did you help Tali in her Pilgrimage?
Did you encourage Garrus to be more renegade or paragon?
Rachni queen.
Did you help Nassana Dantius?
Did you help Gianna Parasini?
Did you complete all of the Cerberus missions?
As for retcons and plotholes. Don’t consider game mechanics to be “retcons”. People consider thermal clips to be retcons, when they are explained as being an upgrade. You could say, “well with the right weapon mods, you could have a weapon that never overheats”. Sure, except in game those weapon mods are too expensive to fit on every single weapon. Therefore, using thermal clips, which are cheaper, make sense. When I hear people whine about thermal clips, it sounds more like it’s just something else BioWare changed and they just want to cry about it. Ooooh nooo. No more infinite ammo. (Even though the ammo is still ‘infinite’.)
I also don’t see plotholes. Though that could be because I’m playing the second game in a trilogy, and expecting the story to be finished in the third game. If Mass Effect 2 suffers from anything, it’s the classic move of using the second installment to set up the third installment. However, seeing as how the first game was ended with a clear set up for a second game, I can’t fault BioWare for something they’ve already done (they said from the start that Mass Effect was to be a trilogy, or at least very close to the start).

what changes in the game from making those decisions? i see that a choice was made whether you saved fist or not. but what exactly changed in the game other then getting 4 more lines of dialogue with a NPC? its funny you bring up doing the cerberus mission, considering ME2 im working for cerberus. youd think thatd have huge repercusions.....but it didnt, at all. consequences, thats what im talking about. not simply just choosing A over B and playing a game with A instead of B. and its easy to say "well we havent played the whole trilogy yet" but thats a farse. new ME3 players without a save import are gonig to be equally as successfull as my perfectly made ME1 + ME2 save import. theres not even a consequence for not playing the first two games.
i never modded my weapon to fire forever. being able to fire forever was the last thing id need. the thing is its not "whining." personally i think the overheating system could have beeen an awesomely unique design for a sci fi game like ME. it simply needed tweaking, not a comlete removal. does bioware have such little faith in gamers that they dont think we can understand a different kind of ammo system?
