Fighting misogyny will never be pointless.

It is when there isn't any to be had.  Their were maybe 2 people crying out about the blonde hair... 2 very loud people but thats hardly worth making a political stand about in a game forum.

Besides the guy above just pointed out that misgyny is the hatred of women.  How does that work in a femshep poll?
Isn't the fact that you said yourself that your not going to even play as femshep more mysgynistic than anything else?

Apparently a dictionary is like Grunt's tank, and can't "instill meaning" very well as neither you nor this Rei character seem to know what misogyny actually entails.

I play as a male Shepard, primarily, because i am a male, though i am of the opinion that Meer does a better job than Hale as far as voicing the character goes.

I think it is you that doesn't understand how to use the word. It refers to a specific type of hatred, and the idea that blonde women are incapable is a misogynstic one.

I'd love to know where your idea for the definition of a word comes from.

An article on the History of Misogyny

Oxford Dictionary Definition

And for good measure lets drag wikipedia into this.

Misogyny as interpreted by people.

I could keep posting more links but I really can't be bothered.

So from what information we can gather boys and girls, the socially accepted definition for misogyny is wrong according to blacqout.
I've never been so amazed in my life. =]

That's all I'm going to say on that, and I'm gonna call it now just in case you keep going with your opinion that misogyny is strictly about blonde women..

You sir are a troll.

Albeit a currently successful one.

Are you seriously denying that "blonde haired women care more about their nails than saving the galaxy" is a misogynistic statement?

A comment doesn't need to denigrate all women to be misogynistic, and misogyny often manifests in lurid sexual innuendo. Flemming's Bond is considered misogynistic, for example.

Your idea of what misogyny is, is currently misguided. Perhaps you could offer an example of a misogynistic statement as you understand it?

Oh, and i just noticed that you said that i think misogyny is strictly about blonde women. No, i never did that, so if you would refrain from finishing construction of that particular strawman, i would be grateful.

They did it because ****es were whining over the fact that she is blonde. Some people are so intelligent and open-minded on this forum that they assumed that because she's blonde, she is going to be a stupid barbie bimbo.

Ok, just about finished scan reading the thread to notice the only person who ever mentioned nails was yourself. And you keep the blonde remark going and going and going rather than any specific female hate.

So yes your own statements imply that you feel misogyny is limited to blonde women. This is a thread complaining that a female we all love has red hair and not blonde hair.

If anything I'm getting the impression you are scared of red heads taking a more prominent role in games.

To which I'll direct you to a wonderful song: Ginger

I mean come on, how can there be misogyny in a femshep hair colour poll. You vote for the colour, not her gender or whether shes capable or not.

::Edit::

Just to get you to see where I'm coming from, an example like your own:-

"Blonde haired men care more about their nails than saving the galaxy"

Is not inherently a misandrous statement. But an issue focusing on the colour of someones hair. Like your own statement. Unfortunately there isn't a term for hating a specific hair colour. Unless you are ginger of course. =]

Uh... i'm speaking out against the anti-blonde sentiment specifically because i'm unhappy with the way her hair was changed from blonde to red. That's kind of what this thread is about...

Your understanding of this thread and my argument is as accurate as your understanding of the word "misogyny", it seems.

I'm disappointed with the way this change came about: as a result of misogynstic ranting by a vocal minority of fans - that the Barbie and make up comments were made isn't up for debate.

Why does ANYONE care how femshep looks and her hair color?

The game let's you design your own sheppard, so manshep or femshep can look like the elephant man for all I care.

Seriously, what's all the ruckus about?

Her hair was changed from blonde to red because people voted for red. You can't deny the majority their preference because it isn't blonde. Blonde was still there in the 2nd poll and everyone was more than capable of voting. Not everyone who didn't vote for Blonde was a blonde hater dude, that was the minority.  People just preferred other hair colors, preference is not misogyny it's just preference.

Bioware did not make this poll to pander to blonde haters and there is absolutely no proof that they did at all. They stated, and I believe them, that the poll was created because of many fans commenting that they'd like FemShep 5 with a different hair color. And there were a lot of comments about it, and they weren't "blondes r stoopid so make me another poll cuz blondes are stoopid."

Am I now a blonde hater because I supported the 2nd poll and did not prefer blonde?  More choice does not equal misogyny.

If you honestly think thats why the 2nd vote came about rather than Bioware having a lot of feedback that people voted for long hair blonde shep mainly because of the hairstyle...........then your a fool.

Blonde was still an option in the second vote, as was brunette, black and red.

Does that make the vote anti-black hair, and anti-brunette too?

You and other are over reacting imo. Yes there were some idiotic anti-blonde comments from....idiots, but they didnt force the 2nd vote. And if you believe they did force the vote it just shows your ignorance and gives more voice to the minority of idiots your supposadly against.

I voted for femshep#5 mainly because of the longer hair. I then voted for brunette yet you dont see me ****ing do you.

Basically your whining because you dont like the red head shep and are using the original whiners as an excuse to whine yourself.  This isn't some big moral high ground your taking.  Your just using Masygony to cry about how your choice lost.

They also say that she has a completely different facial structre.

It's easier to dye your hair than completely alter your cheek bones, so your line of argument is an especially pathetic one.

I don't mind "red head shep". I just mine the circumstances that forced the second vote.

It's pretty clear that less people voted in the second round. The intelligent people among us are capable of asking "why" and devising a logical conclusion.

The reason for this is that fewer people knew about the vote. Those most likely to have followed the story after its initial conclusion are those that were unhappy with the final outcome. That's just common sense.

OK going to start this out with this fact, I am a blonde and a female and a gamer.

Now onto what I want to say. I voted for femshep #5 because I liked the way she looked, though I didn't like the blonde hair. Personally I like red heads a lot more than blondes. Now I am seriously not one to follow the forums, and don't hang out much on facebook. I still saw both polls because I am following this game. When the second poll came up I went and voted for the red head, because I like red heads. I am a blonde, I like to think I'm a fairly intelligent blonde. However, when I look at a woman I like red heads, see my avatar. All my play throughs are with red heads. I think the polls honestly speak for themselves, each one individually. The first one stated that overall people liked the look of femshep # 5, the second polls said almost as overwhelmingly that they liked red over blonde.

Now tell me why you think that because I voted for red Shepard, I am prejudiced against blondes? Refer to my opening, I am a blonde.

They did it because many people can't accept that blondes can be more than barbies or other (worse) things people say about them because of some damm prejudices they have stuck in their heads.

Basically a lot of people was crying because the blonde won inititally so they did a new poll.

I was curious how many people preferred 5 with a different hair color because they believe the blonde stereotypes but just didn't state it as such.

I never said that everybody that voted for a non-blonde option did so because they are anti-blonde.

I said that the vote came about because of the misogynistic whining of the few, ruining it for the many that were absolutely happy with the results of the first round of voting.

I am pleased that you were able to take part in the second round of voting, but for whatever reason i wasn't. The fact that about half as many votes were cast in the second round suggests that rather a lot of people, like me, didn't know about it.

It's logical to conclude that those that continued to follow this story after its initial conclusion (the crowning of blonde Shepard) are the ones that weren't totally happy.

This is reflected in the voting. It's a skewed result and completely unfair.

It's not a skewed result because less people voted. Your "logical" conclusions are nothing more than pure speculation. The intelligent people among us know that

I just don't get what's so hard to grasp that the 2nd poll wasn't just created because of the prejudiced blonde whiners. Bioware stated it was because people showed interest in a 2nd vote for hair color, which they did. Thinking they did it for any other reason is another silly speculation based on your own hurt feelings.

Again, I supported a second poll. Does that make me a blonde hater? Nope I just like choice.

Not only did redhead win, but blonde lost to every other color. Blonde supporters did not just disappear into the forest, a lot of the most likely only voted for 5 based on her hair style. The 2nd poll proves this.
