Well, its true that it wasn't a majority hating blondes that influenced BW.  It was a small minority hating blondes that influenced BW.

If this is true, then why didn’t the majority of the people who wanted blond Shepard vote for her once again and make sure that once again she rose to the rank of number one? If only a minority of vocal people influenced a new vote, it doesn’t change the fact that the same people had access to the same blond Shepard to vote for once more.

This argument may hold some water had the blond Shepard came in second behind the redhead. She didn’t. She was at the very bottom. So, unless you’re willing to stand on the ridiculous assumption that thousands of voters chose to vote for red (and the raven, since she came in second) simply because they hate blondes, your argument has little merit.

such a difficult position. IRL i cant stand red hair but i voted for Ginger Shepard because my canon femshep is [usually] a red head. my xbox avatar is a red head too and neither has anything to do with my preferred alias: Red Son Rising

i bought into the blond backlash but im over it now; just finished a Barbie Shepard run and the hair color didnt affect how i played the game or the way NPCs treated femshep at all. might try a short hair femshep but the results will prolly be the same

i hope ME3 lets players use the default femshep for imported characters. i doubt editing Ginger Shepard will be possible but id like the option to 'upgrade' a few of my ME2 femsheps. cant even look at some of em, the recon hood is a permanent accessory

You need to stop throwing around words like mysoginistic and accusing the majority of hating blondes so much that they influenced BioWare.

I'm trying to make sure that we differentiate between the people who HATE blondes (which is the minority) and the people who just didn't like the blonde hair.

Even the people throwing around words like bimbo? They probably don't hate blondes the way the topic creator's posts would have you believe.

I'm disappointed in people when they say things like "ugh, blonde, so generic", but that complaint isn't motivated by things like misogyny, it's just personal taste.

blacqout reminds me of that poster that was banned a while ago. The guy that would state that people were being racist and try to present himself as a gentleman and speak on the behalf of women when many of his comments pointed to him basically idolizing and refusing to support a departure from the juvenile styling of female squad members. He also took his shtick to the escapist boards. I'll see if I can find his name.

Strawman.  There could be a 1,000 reasons.  For that matter if so many people wanted a red head, green eyed Shep with freckles, why did that option get so few votes in the first poll?

They could solve this whole thing by making blonde shep from vote 1 an additional preset instead of the default.  The face is the same so it would be the same head morph.  Make a second high res skin texture with a beauty mark instead of freckles and put her in the presets.  That way the winner would at least be represented.  Let the red head take the default slot and be in the the trailer/box art, no one really cares about that.

Blonde shep should at least be available to play since she did get the most votes out of any option by more than 10K votes.

Has there been a single prominent blonde female in either Mass Effect game?

Yep! If you make your Shepard blond, there you have it.

Barring that, why should there be a prominant blond character just for the sake of having one? You know, the absence of something does not equate a prejudice.

Especially since, aren't blonds in the Mass Effect universe pretty few and far between anyway? You know like, in the lore?

I agree with KBomb, why should there be one just for the sake of having one? Sometimes including a [insert person from group x here] just for the sake of it doesn't go over well, anyway - "token [x]" and all that jazz.

Because they liked the hairstyle? I thought this had been established. Many people said they voted for.the.hairstyle.but.wished.it.was.red.or.black.
And I have no problem with the blond Shepard being a preset, but you do know that you can make a blond Shepard with blue eyes.

If you mean Valentin Seleznyov... that is me. I wasn't banned (i never did post here very often), and i was the victim of racism.

Some guy kept bringing up my being Russian in a derogatory manner.

I am a gentleman, and this is reflected in my supporting Miranda's right to wear what she likes. The DLC body armour was against her characterisation and was saying to women "you can't look pretty and be tough at the same time".

My argument was as airtight as the bland hardsuits you and your ilk are so fond of, which is why so many of you resorted to racist comments.

So they liked the hair style?  Then why was there a second vote if they didn't care enough about the hair color?

If someone wanted a red head, green eyed Shep with freckles they wouldn't have voted for #5 in the first place.

At the end of the day there is absolutely no way to determine why someone did or did not vote for a particular option.  The only hard fact you can draw from either vote is the raw number of total votes, and that winner is clear by a mile.

The second round of voting wasn't as well publicised, so many of the more casual fans (who are typically less likely to be pseudo-intellectuals that consider disliking blonde hair to be unattractive on women to make them sexually enlightened) didn't get to vote.

Wrong, they are from different polls, by your logic if president Obama runs for reelection he should be able to count all the votes he recieved for his first term.

If you want to argue unfairness in the method of how the polls where done or state we should have known we where only voting for the hair style in the first poll I would agree completely, but your not, your saying the winner of a completely different poll should get to count their votes in all polls thereafter.

When the blonde Shepard won, that was the end of it is as far as most of us were concerned.

It's clear from the numbers that significantly fewer people voted in the second round of voting. The people that were the most likely to be aware of the second round of voting, are the ones that disliked the blonde, so the results are hardly surprising... or fair.

If 31,000 people wanted BlondShep, then why did she only get 5,000 votes in the second round of voting?

Where did those 26,000 people go?

I guess they must have been abducted by the Collectors.

So you prefer after voting for Obama being able to pick a Randall Terry for President on the grounds that you only voted for Obama because he was the only democrat on the ticket.

Dude. You are super annoying. You realize that comments like this make people think you're nothing but a troll. That means they won't respect your opinions (I definitely don't, sorry).

"Deal with it" stings, I know, but just like the anti-blonde whiners after the first poll you really, really need to.

If 20,000 people wanted red head Shep why didn't they vote for her in the first round?  Were they stuck behind the Omega 4 relay, hardee har har.....  Really, at least come up with something other than a simple strawman. In fact, don't bother. /sigh

That is so terribly not true I can't even describe it.  Why is it so difficult a concept that people prefer other hair colors than blonde for Shepard? Why does it have to be about hating blondes? And no, it wasn't just the ones who disliked blonde who voted in the poll that is absolutely ridiculous.

Why didn't blonde win? It wasn't a conspiracy, most of the people who originally voted blonde apparently preferred a different hair color. End of story, minimal prejudice involved (except for that annoying minority. And I mean minority)

This is probably one of the more likely reasons for the variances, but unless one could tally the individual votes by user in both votes you can't really tell anything except the raw number.

The fact that there even was a second vote was pretty silly, but I suppose I shouldn't have been terribly surprised to see BW cave in to the whining minority.

In the end the truly sad thing is the huge joke they just made out of femShep.

Really?  You actually went and interviewed all 31K+ people that voted for #5 in the first poll and know for a fact that they all came back and voted for another option?  That must have taken a long time.....

I voted for shep #5 because it was the best hairstyle, period, I even asked for dark hair, so I am one of those 26,000 people, now just 25,999 to go.

I think we established this long ago. Most people liked FemShep 5 for her hairstyle. Color, based on 2nd poll voting, was a much less important factor.

The numbers don't lie dude.
