Well hopefully the visual outfits will be sexy enough for you.

Basically, chestpieces will alter appearance and we'll be able to change those at our will once we have unlocked them, while boots, gloves, and helmets can be changed at any time, with no visual effect but with the stats applying.
For me this is perfect.

I don't see why you couldn't have done this by just making their unique armor sets linked in such a way that all four pieces had to be worn together.Mike Laidlaw wrote...
This decision allows us to give the followers appearances that "break the rules," such as isabela's boots coming over the knee, or Merril's gloves coming seamlessly up her arms. Ultimately, we believe that the strong visual identity given to characters by iconic appearances is an important part of their identity.
You still get your stats from it and function, which is more important then looks. Well that's how it userd to be until Bioware games started becoming fashion games.alex90c wrote...
Mergh. Is it really that hard to maintain iconic outfits yet at the same time make it possible for us to equip whatever we want WITH visual effect? If I wanted to equip Isabela in Legion of the Dead armour that should be possible with full effect, rather than thinking "oooh lets give her this" and then, oh look her her boobs are still spilling out like they were just a minute ago ¬_¬
Why ever not? Boobs and midriff are the best part!Filament wrote...
But things being the way they are, I suppose I would be happy as long as each companion has both bulky and light unique outfits. I don't want to equip my mage in massive plate and have her boobs and midriff showing.

Right because Isabela would totally put on some Legion of the Dead armor to make you happy. ¬_¬
Putting her in pants was bad enough, she squirms when Fiona tries to put pants on her.Lenimph wrote...

But being a visual medium, why is it that difficult for BioWare to show the visual changes associated with changing armor, if you want (or why not make it a toggle like the helmets)? Hell, BG2 had it and that was 11 years ago now? DAO managed. Is it a memory issue on the consoles most likely? Why should the developers care if I have Morrigan in massive armor as opposed to her "iconic" robes?
