So too, high dragons aren't unique to Flemeth and her shape-shifting, since there is the one that Kolgrim can call in DA:O (unless that too was Flemeth...hmmmm). I think Flemeth just chooses to transform into one because they are all sorts of magnificent and awe-inspiring.

In a non-sexual way.
Unfortunately.

Perhaps one day, I'll try my hand at some Flemeth fanfic (but with F!Hawke...because that's how it should be).thats1evildude wrote...
Flemeth was "testing" Hawke? News to me. I thought she was just using him.
In a non-sexual way.
Unfortunately.
I took the amulet task to be many things - 1. a task that could be performed by someone with the right amount of prowess, 2. a test to see what kind of person Hawke was, and 3. just a matter of convenience.
When she first encounters Hawke, she says to herself "Is it fate or chance? I can never decide." That seems to me that she knew Hawke could be there, it was something she could see as a possibility, and then all of the pieces of that possible timeline/possible path fell into place, allowing her to nudge things along in a manner she saw fit.
But I also think she's collecting heroes, or at least moving them on a chessboard of sorts. She wants to know the measure of the (wo)man, so to speak. If she's going to be using these people (Hawke, the Warden, etc) later on for something grand, she needs to ensure that they are ready and worthy.
Just my take on the matter.

To me, it was mostly No. 3 and a little of No. 1.
I interpreted Flemeth's meeting of Hawke to be a fortunate accident, for both her and Hawke. She didn't go out seeking Hawke and didn't take an interest in him/her until she saw the battle with the ogre. At that point, she intervened, and in doing so gained a glimpse into Hawke's destiny. But even Flemeth couldn't say whether or not it was a chance encounter or if they were fated to meet.

Maybe. I wouldn't be surprised.

I think Flemeth already tested Hawke with the amulet task. She makes a comment about it being nice to see that people know how to keep their word (paraphrasing). That probably solidified her regard for the Fereldan. She had already seen Hawke fell an ogre, so she knew that (s)he was a formidable fighter/mage. Handling the Sundermount matter just ensured her that Hawke could be trusted to a degree.

The Dragon form simplifies her problems when facing combat.
Most mages have a half dozen major spells they can call on, each with different properties. A mage has to be quick thinking like any other soldier, but a mage has multiple "weapons" to choose from so he has to be quick thinking about the actual combat and which weapon to use at any given moment.
The dragon transformation is probably a difficult spell, but it's only ONE spell. Instead of "oh gee, which combo of spells to use for these badguys", she just turns into a dragon and proceeds to facestomp everything in sight. See? Simple:D

How big a leap is it to ask if maybe the High Dragon was in reality Flemeth's test of Hawke? Just kind of crossed my mind.
In the Bone Pit? Not likely. It isn't like Flemeth controls dragons, just able to turn into one. And if any of the previous Bone Pit quests show, it used to be a lair for a high dragon. You have her dragonlings, her dragon mate to bring her food, all shows signs that she made a home there.
