Human mages start out as a Tevinter slave? Who faces execution for slaying their master? That's not how Tevinter works.
EDIT: The 'execution for slaying their master' bit, not the 'mages as a slave' bit.
Well, that's why you're connected to a slave revolt in the making. They would want you to be a new Magister, but you refuse and say that you will bring the Imperium down one way or another, so they decide to execute you.
I actually thought that Tevinter only let the apprentices of the Magisters become new Magisters, and the slaves never got a chance to move up unless their Magister Master gave them one.

Who said I'm connected to a slave revolt? Why would I refuse the title of Magister? When did I tell them I would bring down the Imperium? Taking control away from the player won't make for a very good origin.

There is no status ceiling for a mage in Tevinter, slave or not. If you're strong enough to take something and keep it, it's yours.

Well it's all just a rough idea that I tend to copy and paste where it's relevant, but perhaps you could be a part of the slave revolt in different ways. Of course, this would require an Origin story that was long enough to allow for different ways to be important to the slave revolt.
As for being a Magister.... hmmm.... perhaps throughout the game you could make it clear that you want to change Tevinter, and if that means you have to become a Magister you'll do it. For whatever reason. Maybe you want slavery to be made illegal again. Maybe you want to make Tevinter stronger so you can beat the Qunari in Seheron.
for the DA series, you can't be in total control of everything. Some things will inevitably fall out of your control.

Of course it's not realistic to expect us to control how every event plays out in the game. One thing we've always been in control of, however, is the personality and the thought processes of our character. And that is something I am not willing to relinquish.

Morrigan
Merrill
Varric
Nathaniel Howe
Cassandra Pentaghast
Oghren
The Warden
Hawke
Sigrun....because she's that awesome.
Regular characters that would be important to the storyline, but would be companions only for certain quests:
Bethany or Carver
Leliana
Wynne
Anders

As for companions for now Cullen and Cassandra seems a given (I hope I am proven wrong, but...)

That said I wouldn't mind more personal choices...I didn't get that to a great extent with Hawke.

He was just so funny and pitiful in Origins. I can't help but feel bad for him, and I genuinely enjoyed him as a character. I believe I read a long time ago that he was originally meant to be a party member in Origins but was cut due to time/budget concerns.
If you're reading this benevolent writers, please put Jowan into DA3. (Come up with some excuse for people who killed him in Origins like he saved himself from the old murder knife with blood magic or something.)

Is it not better to make a compromise with all the characters that you might to choose between three protaganist: new character, hawke and warden.
One thing is certain that the chemistry that occurs between friends or lovers when they comes a cameo it wont happen in DA3 with a new protaganist.
If bioware would continue on protaganist like hawke or warden and if they meet old friends it bring in the social factors and it is fun to see you feel like you are reunited with friend after so long.
That "feeling" is a touchdown, and it wont happen with a new character it just gets cold and stranger like.
But that is not the only reason to bring warden or hawke back as protaganist there are plenty of others

Good to know. Then i guess Hawke's story is done.Vicious wrote...
Given the information at PAX it seems pretty obvious a Seeker will be the next hero for DA3. So hopefully we can get Cassandra as a companion.

It has been said that we will not get the warden nor Hawke back as protagonist. So that is it. We won't get them back outside dlc. It has been stated.

Cullen as a love interest either templar or not. He, Isabela and Varric were the most interesting characters in DA2. Isabela will return of course and I can see Varric being dragged off to Orlais by Cassandra and then being rescued by our PC. So that's three companions. Warrior Cullen, rogue Varric and Isabela, one archer, one duel wielder. So that leaves one more warrior which could be a chevalier, and two mages. I do like the idea of a Tevinter mage who's fighting back against blood magic, and a Fereldon circle mage under the pretense of being an apostate who's spying on the Orlesian monarchy.
Of course if it's a seeker we play, I doubt we'll get races back.

Also is it a rule that only humans can be templars or is it just racism?

hawke and the hero of ferelden are justst pawns who got saved and then need to repay their debts to flemeth
shes the one who knows whats up and shes the real story all along, all the local hero's dont mean anything if they didnt got saved by her
its all about 2 ancient gods who cant be alive at the same moment or all hell brakes lose now since morigans child has one ancient god soul now i guess she will try to hide it from flemeth
and in the mean time u waste your time on some crapy side quest "raising a war between mages and templars" but i havent forgotten bout the bigger picture, while the world is in flames
to many questions not enuf answers nor time
dno how they gonna do it but they just keep broadening the story branch and i wonder how many DA titels they will need to bring the whole story forth
but i dont wanna die from old age b4 i find out

A summonable pet griffonNathaniel Howe as a LI
I like the way you think.
I know it's totally cliche, but I'd also love Cullen to be a LI. I've had a crush on him for a loooong time. Well, Nathaniel too, for that matter.
I'd also love to see Shale and Sigrun again.
I have to admit I liked Cullen a lot in DA2. Not so much in DA:O but he was pretty cool in DA2.
