I've been starting to get really wigged out and worried that somewhere along the lines the art staff has forgotten that Shepard and Ashley are still members of the Alliance military meaning they keep their hair above the collar.  It's a small gripe but it allso maintains that we don't have a duel wielding sheppard running around in a bathingsuit bouncing all around the place because that's how the new gravimetric bra systems work or some bs.  It's a small complaint but an easy thing to keep an eye out for.

So please please please bioware for all of us military folk out there, keep femshep looking like she's a strong military woman and not some armored playbunny.  <3

They're also SPECTREs, who are above the law and not held back by military constraints.

Ashley was never a SPECTRE and Shepard has never cut her ties with the Alliance.

Shepard stopped following Alliance command when she died, plus Spectres can do whatever the hell they want.

'Cutting my ties' with Alliance or not, if Shep can murder someone in cold-blood without anyone (military, C-Sec, or otherwise) caring then I highly doubt anyone gives a crap how she wears her hair.

Image IPB  I doubt they'll go around in bathing suits, this is no medieval RPG where the devs can use the excuse of dressing them up in metal chain bikinis or slippery strips of cloth masquerading as clothing. They got away with Jack but they're getting yanked for that. Image IPB  I'd prefer it too if they keep to GLucas's adage : no bouncing in space!  Image IPB

But seriously, they won't forget they are still part of the Alliance (I hope). Ash is so uptight about on Horizon and Anderson threw the dog tags to Shep as a reminder. Ah well, we shall see. Who knows? Image IPB

I just hope a Renegade interrupt lets you spank Ash's ass.

Spectres can do what they like!  Hair is a minor thing, for example the first thing Ashley did was get a boob job for ME3  B)

But yeah really long hair is certainly a no no I would say.  Still nothing wrong with a bit of style and shoulder length hair.

It's not a matter of not having to follow regulations.

It's WHY the regulations are there to begin with.

Short hair so no strands get in your eyes in a firefight, distracting you.

Short hair so you can get a good seal on your helmet while you're in space/a toxic environment.

Shepard is in a firefight, lining up a shot, then the wind blows his/her hair into his/her eyes blocking his/her field of vision. Shepard misses the shot.

I stand corrected as far as Ashley being a specter. That being said she's spent her life with a military mentality It is doubtful she'd change any time soon. And while Shepard can be played in different ways it's not to much to ask that the hairstyles be kept in line with military reg like Bioware said they were planning on doing (at least during the duel wielding conversations). Besides there are a ton of styles that can be used while keeping the hair above the collar.

Didn't we already lose this battle? With the new Ash design and the new default FemShep, I mean. I've enjoyed the military setting in the ME saga, and loved it when they've "followed regulations", but I guess by now the art department has decided otherwise.

I mourn the loss of my military women from ME1.

Concept designs are great and all but we haven't lost until release. My 1st Sgt. had hair down past her butt, but when she put on that uniform she had a bun tighter than... lets just say she had her hair well above her collar.

Shepard can have long hair because if he she couldn't it would severely limit the options, and people would complain about it. A lot.

That's all the reason there is and all the reason there needs to be.

Mass Effect 1 was very military-like (relative to video games). In Mass Effect 2 you go rogue and work outside of the Alliance military. Even if you are with them in spirit, you are working with Cerberus and not the Alliance. As a result, Mass Effect 2 was much less military-like. I think it'll be interesting to see how the military-ness (sorry for the terms) will go in ME3 because you are going back to the Alliance. It's almost full circle. Plus you have Vega, who is a tough soldier but who has no experience outside being a soldier. We'll have to see.

Keep in mind that there was the opportunity for fans to vote on shorter hair-styles for FemShep's hair, but the tousled longer hairstyle was chosen. It's not entirely Bioware's fault.

This.  If long hair bothers you, then luckily your Shepard doesn't have to have it and can follow modern-day military regulations all she likes.  While there are sensible reasons to keep your hair short or out of your face, it is just a video game and some people really don't care.  I usually go for aesthetics over functionality myself: I have quite a few Sheps with the longish hairstyle.

Over analysing my statement a bit, no? I never said anything about long hair, however if you want to go there.. what's to stop Shepard from pulling her hair up in a ponytail or braid?

I think FemShep growing out her hair over the course of ME2 or ManShep growing a beard would go a long way towards showing that they have CUT TIES WITH THE ALLIANCE by the time ME3 rolls around. Whether such excessive hair is detrimental to their ability to shoot a gun properly isn't really the debate that we're having.

And hey, it's a video game. Really. It's just hair, it's not like we're putting a blindfold on Shepard or anything.

Sheprd can tell an Admiral that he cannot inspect her ship so she can also say "I wear my hair however the hell I please" Ashley can say the same thing now so she can wear her hair down to her ass if it grows that long ans the Alliance can't say a thing about it other than "nice hair williams".

I would LOVE to see Ash shut someone down like that :D

Whoa, supporting long hair in a VIDEO GAME (when Shepard is no longer in the freaking military no less) makes one a feminist now? This changes everything.
