Femshep and Ashley are military

Doubtful, but there's always PC mods.  The funny thing about all the complaints about Ashley's new look is that both her hair and costume will be modded onto femShep w/in a week of release.

Xbox can mod too... but to a far lesser extent.

All this talk of practicality seems a tad silly to me. The points about Femshep being unable to see properly fall into "it's a game" territory for me. I control Femshep and neither her hair, nor mine impedes my ability to aim. As for the NPCs, practicality hasn't really been present the entire time for them either. Need I remind you of Jack? I mean, I know she's not military or anything but she still goes out into the middle of firefights in leggings and a nipple belt; hardly what you would call practical. Miranda runs around the battlefield with long hair and in heels, of all things; not super practical either.

It's probably because you never played ME1. ME2 made the jump from practical, believable heroes to a band of comic book titans wearing super-duper tights and lipstick.

ME2, in no way, represents the Mass Effect "look" for me. It just threw the universe out of whack with all of its weird inconsistencies and lazy cover-ups.

I played ME1 (still am infact) and i agree with Erode_The_ Soul, sometimes people have to remember thats its a game and small issues like military hairstyles are a non issue tbh.

Also if people want to moan about things like that well.....say bye to your favourite cripple pilot as he wouldnt be able to join the military in RL.... omg!

All video games require some suspension of disbelief people.
