This is my first post and I decided to fix a couple of spots in the new promo image by Patryk Oejniczak. Take a look:

http://goo.gl/rwsf2

The reason I did this? Mostly insomnia and I wanted to enhance a few spots in the image. I felt her right eye, nose and part of her upper lip were just "off". (The eye's now look in the same direction, I moved the nose up slightly/fixed a nostril and evened out part of the lip) I am in no way attempting to insult the quality Mr Oejniczak's work and if he or BioWare wish for this to be removed I will gladly do so without hesitation and without question. I had this image as my Desktop background and I wanted to touch it up a bit and I wanted to share with the community.
Here's the full desktop. (It's only the 1080p version. Sorry but I only just realized it wasn't the largest format but if people like it I'll "enhance" the larger version):

EDIT: As I really cannot disagree with anyone in this thread and there is a moral dilemma, I will voluntarily remove this image until I can get permission to post it.

EDIT2: I have emailed Patryk asking for his permission and he replied! To directly quote him: "But please by ALL means, critic, overpaint, alter, discuss. It is fine by me ;) You guys help and motivate me (and other artist) to improve and to become better. So please bring back what you removed." Therefore my alterations have returned! :)

EDIT3: Blonde Shep!!
I'm definitely going to work with the colors some more but here's a version of BlondeShep. I lightened her face a bit and did a little work to make her blonde. I'll have to go over it again and work with the layers to finalize it. For now I'm happy!

EDIT4: Brunette Shep!!
Creating the "Brunette" Shep was the hardest thus far. The color scheme is already dark and making the hair black (and recognizable as hair) was impossible. I had to play with the existing red and really tone it down. You'll notice some red undertones and I can't really avoid that unless I put a *lot* more work into this. This is hardly perfect and could even argued as not even a true brunette. I even considered making a 3D model of the hair but I'll save that level of work for an original piece. ;)

Hmm.

I never realised how derpy the original one's eyes were.

I'm happy that the eyes now both look directly toward you now. That right eye was doing its own thing. ;)

Jeez...original looks very rushed compared to the revision, nice work.

She also looks a bit more mature in the revision. They should use that one for the marketing...

The improvements are solid and subtle - but mainly the eye correction is the big (noticeable / important difference) - and the most needed. The image no longer looks like she's halfway to completing a cross-eyed stare. Both eyes up and looking straight ahead, looks right.
Nice work quaigee. ;)

It probably is.

Seeing how Patryk is new to the industry, I hope he would be able to adjust quickly to this new format.

Patryk's anatomy, proportions & facial structures have always been poor compared to his other skills. Everybody is too busy fangasming over his (very) awesome lighting and texturing to notice, though. (Hell, I wish *I* could do lighting that realistically!)

Fixing up other people's artwork is pretty shaky ground however, some people take it ok, others get offended. I think it's an improvement absolutely though, and honestly if he sees this and can learn from his mistakes and improve on his shortcomings he will be an absolutely amazing artist.

Isnt it sorta rude to 'revise' the drawing he worked hard on? Artists I know usually are very offended by these things

Better have another vote to decide eye positioning.

I always saw it as Shepard looking off at something in the distance, a Reaper or Cerberus thing or something, that's why she's kinda scowling and gripping the omni-blade. With that in mind I never really had a problem with it. But maybe it's just cause I like Redheads, no matter where they're looking. :P

You did good work though. You can't even tell it's edited.

You didn't fix the biggest problem though. Her hair is still red and not blonde.

Nice job, quaigee! You fixed the derp eye.
The corners of the mouth need the most revision. They would not be shaped like that at that angle. (put your fingers over the corners and she looks less busted)

I don't think the placement of the iris is the problem (they're aligned properly), but the size of her right eye appears smaller than her left. To illustrate:

Of course, no offense meant to Patryk and his work; just pointing out an oddity. :) As I've stated in several threads I think he did a fantastic job of it, especially with what little time he was given to come up with this.

In this case, I think Patryk didn't have enough time to put the finishing touches because they were in a rush to get the art out for the announcement, and the armor looks like it took a lot of time to craft because it's so beautifully done.

I don't think quaigee did anything but make sure Patryk's art shines the way it should. Producers put the finishing touches on a musician's work; I'm going to count this as being essentially the same thing.

Nice work, quaigee. This is now my desktop background.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I do wish to address one point though...

My intent was not to offend the artist's work and certainly not offend the artist himself. I'll certainly remove it if asked or even if there's a concensus from the community. I only wished to compliment the piece.
