Hi,

When I click on 'Play' the screen goes black for a second and then crashes back to desktop without an error message of any kind.

My PC has Win 7, 64 bit, which I understand causes problems for different games.

I've searched far and wide on the internet for solutions and of course I found your stickied topic (BG2 on Win7 x64) and followed the instructions. After installing the Widescreen mod and changing my compat settings, I tested the game and it worked! The screen looked fine and I was thrilled, but wanted to install a few other mods, so I quit.

After installing a few different other mods, I tried playing the game again. This time something had obviously gone wrong with the Widescreen mod because the screen was very much zoomed in and distorted. Thinking something might have happened when I installed the other mods, I went to uninstall the Widescreen mod and then reinstall it again with the same x and y settings I had last time (since it actually seemed to work the first time I tried playing the game), but now I'm back to stage one: the game crashes to desktop immediately when I start it. I've checked the compatibility and it's still set at Windowes XP SP2.

What do you think went wrong and what will fix this? A reinstall might fix the problem for a while, but I'm worried that everything will muck up once I install all the mods again.

Is there a certain order that the Widescreen mod/my other mods need to be installed in to avoid problems? (If you think it was the order I installed the mods in, I can post a list of the mods I have installed and the order I installed them in, if that will help.)

The stickied topic says "d) Double check that baldur.ini path settings
are pointing into the right place." but what settings is the baldur.ini
supposed to have? This is the only part of the instructions I didn't
follow because I lack the knowledge of how the baldur.ini file should
look like for the game to run properly.

Help will very much be appreciated!:)

It just means you should confirm that the path is correct e.g. "C:\\Games\\Baldurs Gate\\Baldur.exe". Win7 causes a lot of problems because it lies about where it is storing files ESPECIALLY files in the programs (i.e. C:\\Program Files\\) folder.

Re the mods there is a thread that may help. social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/183/index/3149243/1

Page 2 of that has a very good summary (aimed at Tutu/BGT but relevant to BG2), and some links to suggested install orders so you can see which order to install your choice of mods. I'm sure if you posted your mods someone here would help out though. There will be a weidu.log file in your game directory with a list of what you have.

If in doubt, install one mod at a time and test. At least you then know where the problem exists, and you should be able to remove it again.

Edit. Assuming you have to re-install, better to avoid the program files folder too.

The widescreen mod should always go the very last, for more installing tips, go to the Tutu mod compatibility and order of install post on gibberlings3 (=the answer already given by Gate70, I just put it only 1 mouseclick away now).

Hey guys,

Really sorry I haven't commented back in a while. I've just had a hard time getting onto the computer (don't you just hate it when that happens? :P)

Thank you for your help. I'll try it out and tell you how it goes.
