Odd that it shows up as a 'flirt' option...

If I'm in a relationship with, say, Merrill, can I do this and still continue a relaionship with her? Does 'flirting' with someone else kill your current relationship?

I think that you can flirt around as you wish without ruining everything, up until the point where you sleep with the character. But even if you did do the naughty with Fenris, you can still pursue either of the other three LI's because of the way his romance works.

what.

Basically put, if you're in a relationship with Merrill, you can flirt with who ever you like, because she's one of the two relationships built into the game that negate all other relationships. Anders is the other.

As for the "you can still pursue others" coment about Fenris -- yes, you can, just like Isabela. But, if you plan on continuing the Fenris romance, you cannot sleep with anyone else. On top of which, if Isabela even shows up at your house after you've slept with him, this will sometimes also break the relationship. Merrill and Anders both can show up at your place, but so long as you send them packing, rather then sleeping with them, the Fenris-mance will continue.

As for the teaching Fenris to read from the gift-quest in act 2, it is indeed a flirt, but if you're already in a relationship with Anders or Merrill, it won't hurt any of them. I'm also fairly sure it wont hurt the Isabela romance, buuut I'd wager a pop into the 'Bela thread for questions couldn't hurt. If you're in a relationship with Seb, or at least trying to be, then you cannot flirt with him, because flirting with anyone else but Seb throughout the duration of act2 will break it.

It doesn't. Used the "teach him to read" flirt in my last playthrough and there were no problems with 'Belas romance.

And I'm happy that the line following that "flirt" button isn't some awful sexual innuendo and just a simple "It's not to late to learn it". One of the few flirt options I pick all the time without romancing the char I'm flirting with.

Cool, thanks all.

For some reason I've not found this in 3 playthroughs. Definitely getting it next time though,

It would be nice if that wasn't a flirt option. Why wouldn't a good friend want to teach Fenris to read just to be nice?

I entirely agree. It should have been a diplomatic option. It is ridiculous that if you are doing the Sebastian romance, you have to be unsympathetic or rude to Fenris because he can't read and so doesn't properly appreciate your present. Otherwise you will break the Sebastian romance. And it's not as if the dialogue is in any way flirty - just offering to help him read - what sort of friend would not wish to help him?

Agreed. I don't think it really should be a flirt. Maybe the flirt should be more... flirty, and say the diplomatic option can still offer to teach him without being a flirt. You know, for the people who don't want to be like "here's a book.. oh you can't read.. well that sucks.. keep the book anyways. See ya."

Oh well, add it to the list of "things that could have been" when it comes to DA2.

Actually, I think it's there as encouragement for people who don't go into the romance spoiled. "Oh, look, I can still flirt with him. Maybe there's a chance we can get back together."

I didn't pick the heart option but the sarcastic one and I still taught Fenris to read. Clicking on the bookcase my Hawke said the same thing my other Hawke that romanced him did.

I wonder. Does anybody know if you still get the bookcase interaction if you rival Fenris? I love that quiet acknowledgment of Fenris's desire to improve himself, but I have a really, really hard time maintaining a friendship relationship with him because of the politics my Hawkes usually embrace.

I haven't done the rival path. I would think he would throw the book at you...much like the other gift and not want it.

Romanced or non-romanced? Romanced rivalry gets, at least for me, while I have gotten nothing on non-romanced so far.

No, you still get the heart option with the book. He begins the conversation very, very angrily, as one would expect, but he does eventually calm down a little. If you choose the heart option, Hawke says "It isn't too late to learn," and Fenris says "Isn't it? Sometimes, I wonder." But that wasn't the bookcase interaction I meant. I was talking about the one in Hawke's house where Hawke says "Fenris's reading has improved. I should pick out a new book for him to work on."

Edit: Unromanced. While I do appreciate Fenris as a companion, I'm an Anders girl.

Not sure. I know romanced rival Hawke gets the teaching Fenris to read dialog with the bookcase.

Makes sense. That's a rather vulnerable side of himself I could see him only showing it to friendship or romance Hawke.

Hey- how is it you even get this option in the first place - I romanced him to the end but never had a chance to teach him to read as far as I can remember. In the process of rival-mancing him so would love to check this out if poss

You need to give him "the Book of Shartan" in order to get the dialogue. It's a gift found in Act2 during night in the elven alienage.

Still don't understand why that is a flirt! It makes no sense! Why would you not want to teach someone to read at least a little unless you are a total jerk? The dialogue isn't even flirty unless you reeeeaaaly stretch it! AAAARGH! Posted Image

I think may be they made it a flirt option so you have an indication that this will advance your romance if you haven't quite got there yet. My first run through I did indeed need that last little boost to get my friendship bar to the point where it would trigger the romance progression. So may be they thought that a person playing a snarky or aggressive type Hawke might be a big enough jerk to choose the middle or bottom option and thus miss out on this possibility. I would have chosen it regardless of how my Hawke usually acts because it is clearly something that a friend would offer to do.

I too think it's odd that is option is flirt only.  As his friend I would like to teach him to read without it being suggestive.  And possibly hurting other romances.  I don't know if it hurts other romances or not.

Yes and it doesn't mean you are flirting with him, it means you  like him for who and what he is.
Myhawke has a Li and have fenris full rival the option still there.=] The romance do not get hurt at all, you have already made it clear who you want to be with.
