After al my rants about DLC, I finally have to give my kudos to Bioware. What happened yesterday just made me realize how awesome DA:O can be. Spoilers below:
I'm playing as a Mage and after Ostagar decided to head for the Circle Tower first. as that had been home and seemed the logical place to go. Next step was Redcliff, since Allistair seemed so persistant about seeing Arl Eamon. So far, a decent game, but I would have expected a bit more. That changed the moment I entered the Great Hall of castle Redcliffe. That was the first time I could see the consequences of my previous actions and it what great!
If I hadn't freed Jowan for old times sake, I might not have learned that there was a way to cure the boy. Now, killing his mother instead of the boy didn't seem like a real alternative (except for Morrigan, perhaps). But there were the Mages that owed me, and it now looks like it'll be possible to keep everyone alive. But if I hadn't freed Jowan and hadn't cleansed the tower before, I surely wouldn't have had these options.
That moment, making those decisions, knowing that my previous actions now enabled an otherwise (I assume) unavailable solution, really showed that DA:O is exceptional. If there is more of this to come, I might even go as far as going through the same lengthy and boring combat again to experience more of that greatness.
Oh, and before I forget: also like how on numerous instances people have reacted to me being an elf. Might be only a sentence or two, but it makes all the difference.
Great job, Bioware!
