Finally, I play FemShep. A FemShep who is badass, Machiavellian, but still *very* feminine (hell, she's half-French). She likes the GPS's sleek and elegant design. The GPS also isn't too loud, unlike the Claymore which prevents her from listening to classical music during combat.

You convinced me, I like this Shepard

Hahaha thanks! I'm flattered. I'd love to make some videos but I run ME2 on a 2008 MacBook. I need to tweak the Coalesced.ini just to get enough framerate. Without FRAPS. XD

Maybe you can make some vids of my FemShep if you ever play a GPS Vanguard? I'd greatly appreciate it if you do! Here's her facecode:

Her first name is Marion.

P.S. In the end, "real" vanguards use the Claymore.

You might be interested in joining the Claymore fanclub

I hope she speaks a little French too ;)

I can't promise a vid, but maybe Marion can seduce me ... l'amour embellit la vie :)

Yeah, for me, the eviscerator is just a place holder for the claymore.

I have a Claymore vanguard, but I actually have less fun with her than my Evi vanguard. I don't really have the knack for the reload trick, and I like being able to be a little more flexible with range (both by carrying the Mattock and with the shotgun itself and its tighter spread). Also, it's perfect for husk-killing, enough so that I switch over to it on all my shotgun users (Scimitar soldier, Katana assault infiltrator, Claymore vanguard) during husk missions. The faster guns don't offer the one-shot freeze and the Claymore is too unforgiving of shots missed due to punch staggers.

But yeah, in the end it really is all preference. You can toe-to-toe with Harby with any gun as long as you're comfortable with it, which makes any DPS disparities basically cosmetic.

so i finished mordin . Sinosleep's vid was helpful, but he's a level 8 when doing it, i was level 4. Makes a heck of a difference. Rank 3 charge, no passive, rank 1 inc. ammo , eviscerator . I could charge maybe 50% of the times i would have liked to .
But all in all, it's the same problem with every class. Early adepts have slow cooldowns and limited biotic damage , early sentinels have their armor go down in a wink etc.

EDIT
i was full of questions, but finally it just gets tiresome for experienced players.
I'll wait till i'm more adept at being a vanguard .. ( bad pun moment ;p )

I am doing vanguard to make some more Cryoguard videos.  None are at lower levels.  Anyway that build is the same as sinosleep's until horion.  When sinosleep posted that video about a year ago, I was just learning vanguard, and I found that charge aginst the three mercs impossible for me to pull off.

sinosleep instruction video    the charge I'm talking about is at 1:48.  He casually does that charge.  A great player can make it look so easy.

Here are my attempts at doing that part.   The enemy ai is variable, and charging somebody behind cover adds a lot of variables.  Usuallly you have to chase down the guy you charged, because he drops to  the ground ( on the eighth example the target  stays in the air and I could shoot him easily ).  Usually the other two guys jump on  you, but sometimes they get confused.  I added the video  with the guard before the run because I always laugh at his line.

Edit: forgot to say, Insanity on Xbox.

what level were you at ?what charge rank , weapon damage ? That's where lies the problem for me.
For example i did jack's recruit last night and had to redo 10 times i think before i could take down those centurions. I had to strip them of some protection before i could charge any and take them down with 2 gun shots. Heavy charge would have given me a better margin to either shoot again or get into cover. I was at level 5 .
Now i finally have heavy charge so i'll be curious to see how i manage .

thanks for the vid , i wasn't as efficient ....i ran on the left corridor, fire at them some . Then one always comes along the opposite corridor, then i charge him and run to tackle the bunch in there.

Left out all that stuff.   Level 7 ( did Kasumi loyalty, some firewalker missions, normandy dog tags, other misc stuff so I could have heavy charge and Jacob's squad incendary for this mission )

charge rank 4
passive rank 2
1 shotgun upgrade, using Jacob's squad incendary.
Maxed Miranda's passive for weapon damage ( I know, I posted a thread and it does not help that much, but I could easily one-shot normal guys with Evi on Mordin's mission ).
1 damage protection
1 heavy skin weave
Kestral armor, with N7 shoulders for weapon damage.

I posted the vid to show my difficulty with charging those three guys so early in the game.  I need to play more cautious than most, especially early.  The main strategy for me is to learn to pick the isolated guys, charge them and then get to cover.

It sounds like you are doing pretty good, I died a million times trying to learn this class.  Heavy charge will help you a lot, imo.

so you don't bother building your incendiary ammo for a while, using jacob's ? didn't consider that .
too late now, but i am building miranda's passive for squad's benefits.
i never do firewalker , guess it would help. Only did dog tags and that's it.
What saved my ass in JAck's mission was Miranda and Jacob's pull/warp combo and a rank 1 reave as bonus , and lots of shooting . I was too weak to charge unless they were down to health.

The one with the prothean sphere, I think, firewalker has a biotic upgrade ( the only one available before horizon ). btw, that opening fight in the Jack mission can be tough. Jacob's squad incendary can help a lot on the early missions ( Krogan, vorcha, armored dogs, varren ).

guess i really should do it then . I always get the feeling that mission gets tedious after a while.
i normally get on Horizon at level 11 , which isn't bad .
I thought of doing Zaeed and Kasumi's first but thought jack's would be easier. don't think it was after all.

Jack's recruitment mission is pretty rough and so is Kasumi's. Zaeed's isn't as bad especially if you go paragon, but i guess the mech part could be difficult. Just keep at it and you'll get better.

ok, so i just did Zaeed, on level 6 , heavy charge, ammo, passive and reave at rank 1. Brought Jacob along for weapon damage and pull .
I'm getting a bit more daring . I still had to restart the final battle 4 times , but i charged almost non stop .

@tLayug, you are right, it was far easier than Jack's recruit. And i can imagine
kasumi will be tricky because i still have weak shield and health .

I just put a vanguard kasumi video out a day or two ago. My vanguard is level 21 or 22 in that one, but it should still help out. Especially the mech + squad hallway engagements.

thanks.
you charge the ymir non stop , that's real vanguard signature , and totally new to me ( been nothing but an adept and a sentinel ) .
started archangel 's recruit so that'll be interesting because there's everything there, vorchas, krogans, mercs, lokis, varrens but no YMIR ... unless i decide to destroy the reprogrammed one .

guess you were right at the beginning, best way is the hard way .

Using distracting tactics to lower your enemies' guard like that is cheating! That made me giggle :P

I am trying GPS Vanguard for the first time myself, never really used it before with that class. Got a couple of vids fairly early game. In the Archangel mission I have Charge and passive level 3, I think I have incendiary ammo somewhere there too, I put a few points in it usually for the Mordin mission.

In Recruit the Krogan I maxed charge and went champion. But I am reading earlier on in the thread that champion doesn't affect charge CD? Or am I reading that wrong?

Archangel:

Grunt:

And here's a video where I took a save from another run after I bought the DLC with the GPS and tried it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F32NIucDwk

I have to say I am not sure I like the GPS too much as vanguard. The charging means I often have to peek out of cover even if I am just turning around to charge it. I might just swap to Claymore in the Collectors ship. I haven't decided what weapon to pick this time around. Often the double shot is quite handy though (when I don't miss <.<)

I am pretty sure that Champion affects charge CD, other CD upgrades dont.

Nice vids :wizard:

The GPS uncharged does about as much damage as the Evicerator + it has a ROF of a Katana. I usually dont chargeup the GPS... well I dont use it much , cant stand its sound "Bshzzzz"

Im about to start a new Vanguard game as well. Im just about to wrap up my ME1 game so thinking about my build strategy for ME2. Last time I maxed out inferno ammo, shock wave and had reave as bonus power. This time im considering forgetting shock wave getting cryo ammo and slam as bonus is this feasible?

@Yugster, yes that is a very good combo. I recommend maxing squad cryo before even maxining incendiary ammo and using squad cryo on the Scimitar. Use slam to finish off the frozen guy you don't want to waste ammo to kill. Check out ScroguBlitzen's Cryo Vanguard thread for some awesome demonstrations of the power of cryo ammo.

Yeah this was on similar lines as what I was thinking Cryo and slam seem to be perfect match. (not to mention wasn't impressed with shock wave seems to be pretty much useless part from against husks.

tried slam for the 1st time on Grunt's recruit ,it's great even at rank 1 if you time warp very quickly with it.I had slam on caps lock key and warp on mouse top button so i could launch them at the same time. insta bombs.
it's a keeper for sure , esp. later in the game when i can have it last longer .

Slam rocks for Vanguard, IMO. In fact I felt no need to unlock Pull.

Mine is now level 30
Inferno Ammo
Squad Cryo
Heavy Charge
Shockwave - 1
Champion
Crippling Slam

Eviscerator, Tempest, Carnifex, and Viper.

My goal when starting was to get charge up, then passive, then incendiary. After that, I started on cryo. I typically run inferno on all my guns and let the squad use cryo. Exception for synthetic missions... then I equip cryo as well. At 21 or 22 I did Haestrom with Garrus and Miranda and it wasn't even a fair fight. I think I still had the Mantis... but I let Garrus use that as I was primarily using Evi and Tempest. I almost like the Tempest as much as the shotguns to use during charge, especially if the target still has barrier or shield up. On LOTSB I was lvl 27 I think... slam or charge would knock people completely off the ship. And the Viper makes defenses evaporate. It also works very well with the inferno effect... the truck section was comical... cast heavy singularity, cast improved flashbang (kasumi) then shoot Viper. Then switch to tempest or Evi and charge remaining baddies.

on Horizon, my real first fight against collectors, i found slam very efficient against husks . ( syntax edit )
But eventually i stopped using it and only charged .
I died a lot in that mission because i never pause and i don't really take time to assess the field ,, trying to build a reflex or instinct to react correctly : moving, melee, shooting , cover whichever works there and then.
I wish my passive had been maxed for better CD , next time think i won't bother with increasing incendiary and put all my points on charge and passive , using grunt's or jacob's squad ammo.
