I'm just curious how people would rate the origins. Having finally played all the origins and taking 5 of them through the entire game I'd have to rate them as follows
1. Dwarf Noble
2.Mage
3 City Elf
4. Daelish Elf
5. Dwarf Commoner (only one I've not done a full run for)
6. Human Noble.

1. Dwarf Noble (And I dislike Dwarves)
2. Mage
3. Human Noble
4. City Elf
5. Dalish Elf (Too much action, too few story elements - I loved the old lore part though, sadly short.)
6. Dwarf Commoner (The setting just didn't appeal to me)
2. Mage
3. Human Noble
4. City Elf

Dwarf Noble.
Magi.
The rest of them seem short and of much less overall "quality" in comparison.

Have not yet tried the Dalish origin as of yet but so far imo:
1. Dwarf Noble
2. Human Noble
3. Dwarf Commoner
4. City Elf
5. Magi
None of them were bad, but the Magi Origin just really didn't strike my fancy, although I do think Jowan is one of the more interesting characters out of all the origins.

Dwarf Noble is great because it deconstructs allot of the common fantasy stereotypes about dwarves.
That's pat of the reason I didn't like human noble, it was too much like the beginning of every fantasy book ever.

EPIC
- Human Noble: got utterly immersed in this Origin, felt tremendous relief seeing Ferugus again
- Dwarf Noble: another immersive Origin, loved Gorim
-
- Magi: loved the characters, even Jowan, the traitorous bastard, but especially Cullen
- Dwarf Commoner: liked the dark, gritty feel of this Origin. I don't usually do "dark," but it worked
-
-
-
- City Elf: felt forced, and unfinished. Didn't elicit any emotional response beyond "when will it end?"
- Dalish Elf: artificial, unnatural conversation, just a slog through the same dungeon twice with some boring, standoffish people
FAIL

id have to disagree with that, every fantasy book/game starts out with a human commoner (insert type of farmer here) living in some backwater whos life gets turned around and sets of for a quest to save the world
here we have a human noble who has probably not really experianced any hardship as of yet but then has his life turned upside down and sets out on his quest to become a grey warden
thankyuo Bioware for not doing the "human commoner/farmer" story
havnt yet played all the origins but so far my favourite is the dwarf noble, human noble, city elf....done the human noble story twice now

From what I've done so far ( Dalish, Human Noble, Magi and Dwarf Noble) I have to say that Dwarf Noble has been so far, Human Noble being good second, but other two haven't been as great. That might've been because I tried them on female characters to whom I have hard time relating to.

The only origin i havent tried is Dwarf Noble, mainly because my second playthrough is going to be a female, and female dwarves? Eurgh. Looks like i might have to consider it though.
Best origin for me has to be City Elf though. The whole marriage day, save the bride really appealed to me. Worst would be dwarf commoner. Atleast Dalish has something unique to it, commoner seems to lack motivation to want to do anything, seems a bit ridonculous that the Grey Wardens take an interest for killing some crime boss.

The Dwarf Noble is my favourite, though I get the feeling a few things were cut from it. The 'best' could in some respects be the City Elf, due to the slightly alternating path as to whether you play a male or female. But it is let down by the first half.
The Dwarf Commoner really shows of the differences in the castes that you don't fully appreciate playing as a noble, though it makes much more sense to play as a thief than a warrior.
The Human Noble and Mage were both pretty standard fare. A high standard, but nothing remarkable.
The Dalish Knife-ear... I can't pass a proper judgement on. I'm playing that through as a whiny, self-absorbed, emo-esque Legalos/Sephiroth wannabe whose hobbies include crying and self harm (I can't stand elves. Don't know why, don't care). But you have a mirror. You break it. The end... Ehhh?
So...
Dwarf Noble
City Elf/Dwarvish Commoner
Mage
Human Noble
Dalish

City Elf female. What's not to love about standing over the body of your lord's son & heir in your wedding dress covered in blood?
Dwarf Noble. Very fresh feel to it. Lots of fun.
Magi. Actions have consequences. Even small actions.
City Elf (male). Bit of a let down after the horror movie that is the female option.
Everything else.
At the bottom I'd have to put the Dwarf Commoner. I never connected with it.

Only tried three so far, magi, noble and city elf (male/female/male). I actually never even gave a second thought to gender influencing the origins, interesting that it has some effect.
Of those three human noble got me most. I didn't expect what was going to happen at all. The little kid had given me a couple good laughs and when I saw him dead I actually felt kind of sick. And angry. Enjoyed killing Howe in that game.
I didn't connect with the magi origin much, until the end of it when I discovered Jowan lied to me. I'd suspected it, but... It made me hope I would get the chance to make him pay for getting me kicked out of the tower.
The city elf was satisfying because I got revenge early; and it gave me background to play an incredibly racist elf. Too bad there's only one other elf as a possible party member.

I'll have to try the Dwarf Noble origin now after reading this, but my preference set-up would be:
1. Human Noble
2. City Elf
3. Dalish Elf
4. Magi
Dwarf Commoner I don't plan on trying at all so that's why it's not on the list, lol.

I loved human noble because I felt it connected better to the plot, and you had more of a motivation to kill Howe and take down Loghain. You can also become a queen or king and the sacerfice scene for a human noble is better because ythe brother does a better job with his emotions then the other characters.

City elf female is epic, absolutely thrilling and satisfying. Magi is meh compared to it especially since it was a second playthrough and i knew how it is gonna end.
Didnt try other yet.

I've played through all the orgins at least once...Not finished the game with all of them, just the starting..
Anyways here is how I rank them:
Human Noble: You can say it is unorignal, but I feel like this one is the one that made me actually care what happened (at least to Howe).
Dwarf Noble: Haven't completed the game with this one yet, but as others have said gives the best reason to join the wardens. (Haven't made it to Ozammar or Denirem with this one yet)
City Elf: Hey I like brave heart, just to bad you can't really go completely crazy against the humans.
Dwarf Commoner: I don't know, a little different then the regular human rise for the dirt hero, not much though.
Mage: Only wish they would have given you more choices in the Harrowing...
Dalish Elf: zzz...zzz...zzz

Human noble - got all choked up even with my parents, then Mage was pretty cool too. The rest were tied, none of them were bad, Dwarf Noble pissed me off to no end because I wanted Gorim and he wouldn't have me because of my cousins LOL.

I'm SO glad i picked human noble as first one. Felt much more connected than the others so far. Mage one was meh till jowane's secret and dwarf commoner was just reviling.

Typical or not, the human noble origin made the game feel much more personal to me more so than any other origin I've played thus far.

I started as Dwarf Commoner, then Human mage and Dalish elf. I liked them all quite a bit. But respectively. The first was a bit to repetive, the second had not interesting choices and the third were too short. Im curious about the remaining 3. Dwarf Noble, Human Noble and City Elf... hmm.

i haven't played a dwarf yet at all... but i really liked the city elf origin, where i got to get pissed off at human males in general for killing and raping my friends, and proceeded to turn totally lesbian for the rest of the game.
it was hawt.
