Suspect it could be just a cutscene-based "travel" or a "carpet bombing" kind of special battle move (also done through cutscene). If i'm not mistaken they mentioned something like the latter as part of the early brainstorming for DA2.Arthur Cousland wrote...
It would be interesting for Hawke to be able to ride a dragon, though that would mean that they would need plenty of open terrain to travel on. That would be a big departure from being restricted to Kirkwall and surrounding areas in the main game.
Hopefully this isn't just a minor part of some boss battle, though it would still be cool to ride a dragon.

Who knows maybe it's alluding to DLC of what happens between Flemeth (the Dragon) saving Hawke and them reaching Kirkwall. I really hope not though.

I doubt it. That would be an awful DLC... they've hinted at Starkhaven / Wildervale / Est-watch / Exalted March / Orlais for future DLC's, so I really doubt they would waste time with that.

Any DLC that can't be done from any point in the game (or at least from act 3 / post campaign) would be a terrible idea, I doubt I'd make a whole new character just to play a new DLC, and I'd be disappointed if I couldn't play it with the characters I like who have already finished the game. That idea would be pretty limiting in when it's accessed.PresidentCowboy wrote...

They did allude to there being a reason behind dragons re-emerging as they are in the Q&A at PAX (dragons emerging in the Dragon Age, not at PAX..), if I had to guess I'd say that's what the DLC would be about, but considering how little solid information there is I'd rather just wait and see than guess wildly.

I can see Starkhaven, since you may either be defending yourself from its armies or helping Sebastian put down the rebels (or whatever) but I really hope they don't try to cram in an Exalted March into a DLC. I'm not even sure it can be properly done in an expansion (if there is one). There are a lot of moving parts to that. It's not going to be "go here and take care of this problem."PresidentCowboy wrote...

Me too. Or a griffin! In fact, that reminded me of Sacred 2. Awful, awful game, but if you played as a seraphim, you could use a sabertooth tiger as a mount. Fun!

I could definitely get behind more Sebastian stuff, esp. if all Starkhavenites talk Scottish.

Fernando and I held a panel at Gamescom for some Dragon Age faithful. During this we had a powerpoint deck with info on DAII, Legacy and such and, at teh very end, Fernando slipped in the slide in question. It was shown to those in attendance on purpose as a tease of what was coming next.
Later that day, as part of the EA stage show, Fernando did some Q&A on Dragon Age II. The crew working the EA booth used the same deck that we used for the panel, but did not know that the slide at the end was not supposed to be shown to the public. So it went up on the giant screens for all who were in attendance. I'm guessing that for the 10 seconds or so it was on teh big screen, no one had their camera or phone ready to take a pic of it.
Oh, and just to clear up some misunderstanding before people spread the wrong info. It was NOT Hawke riding a dragon. That phrase was a specualtion from a press guy who was in attendance. You'll have to wait until it is actually released to find out what it is, but it isn't Hawke on a dragon (Flemeth or elsewise).

Ah well. Maybe this whole thing has given you an idea for the next DLC, hm?

If i remember correctly someone mentioned it on the QA portion and said something about him riding a wyvern.

That just reminded me of Petrice. Right there.
Also, thanks for giving more info about that screenshot. I'm going to bet it's a Disciple riding a dragon.

Before DA2 was released, Laidlaw said that using horses in a game is not so easy as it could seem...well he said that it's not so easy if you want to do a decent animation; maybe riding a dragon is easier to create, even if I don't understand how...must be because dragons haven't mane...
LoTR does fine with this. Armor on the horse no mane problems. The animations are really realistic too, even when jumping. It can't be that difficult.
