Yeah, I know, but here's to wishing. He's got that totally believable "abrasive jerk with a good heart" thing working for him, and I find it incredibly appealing.

I think there's promise with the character, especially with him maturing a bit over the first years in Kirkwall. The problem I have is that we don't really have any example of his attitude away from Hawke (he may not be a jerk; he may just really not like you).

But I couldn't say if he'd actually be any good as a standalone companion, especially since I'm really possessive of sibling-type characters. Hawke's story is as much to me the story of two brothers as it is just the one man, and I felt cheated out of a lot of interaction. I'd likely have a hard time seeing him outside that role (I'd probably still play him as Hawke's brother instead of just "Carver").

Of the DA bunch, their stories are already told. I'm violently sick of Leliana and Morrigan is right behind. Of the Awakening crew, I find that I want Sigrun. I loved her.

Except for Shale, I agree. Shale is immortal (for now). Her story can never fully be told. But David is obligated to try. :-)

Definitely Leliana and Morrigan, and unfortunately the two we're most likely to see (but mercifully not as companions, I bet). Luckily, I don't think Sten would come back (or that you would even be able to tell that it was the same Sten if he did). Alistair is busy. Wynne is dead or dying. Oghren is too much one-note comedic relief (gold as his comedy is) to get the spotlight again. Zevran to me would have no point (like you're going to join up with some grandpa assassin for your big quest).

Wow, you have totally captured the feeling I've been flailing around trying to express about DA2. I totally played it as "the brothers Hawke" and tend to rush through Acts 2 and 3 until Carver turns up again. One of the reasons I liked Legacy as much as I did is that in a lot of ways, it's a brothers' tale, connecting with their father.

That said, if Carver did turn up again in DA3, I'd still be all over it. Dude's got a lot to give. I wouldn't mind it if he were a LI, either. Luke's an awesome writer.

As an aside, how odd it is to agree, for a change. Image IPB

I agree. I think that the bond between Hawke and Carver is one of the most touching relationships in the game, and I find their "brother's tale" really compelling.

But my picks for returning character companion candidates are:
- Cullen
- Sigrun
- Cassandra

Though I would trade any of those guys to have an awakened darkspawn companion.

1. Alistair
2. Not Carver
3. Not Carver

I will never play a mage in DA2. Carver is an abomination and should never ever appear on my computer again, unless he is either dying or in serious pain.

Feynriel the Dreamer (Mage)
Charade (Rogue)
Marass aka "Nothing" the Mercenary (Warrior)

I second this and add:

Finn or Sketch

Beyond that, I'd really love to see some new faces.
